Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight finalized for Aug. 26 - It's on!

He's also been watching MMA longer than some people here have been alive.
So you agreed with him when he was saying Rhonda could beat Floyd?

I would personally give Rogan the benefit of the doubt on that. It's his job to sale fights. The hyperbole he gives in UFC marketing is crazy for just about every big matchup. Like how he says every title fight is potentially the most important fight ever.

Good lord Bovada has Floyd -500 (bet 500 to win 100)

Those are impossibly tasty odds

Unless Conor pulls off the impossible, and then you're out $500 when you only stood to gain $100.

Cubs won the world series, Donald Trump got elected POTUS, this fight is actually happening.. We live in impossible times.

So a buddy of mine posed this question to me today, I think it's interesting and there's an argument to be made for either....the question is, what's more absurd? This fight or CM Punk fighting in the UFC?

Crazy that either is being licensed to go ahead TBH but $$$ talks....

Those are really nice odds. McGregor is a huge underdog. That line is definitely gonna go up.

This is more absurd from a fight perspective. Punk wasn't the first guy to enter the UFC without an MMA record and MMA has always had a close link to pro wrestling. Plus, Punk had the luxury of fighting a guy without a pedigree. McGregor is going straight in with a future HOFer with a 0-0 record. Although I see no reason it shouldnt be licensed. McGregor isn't in any sort of danger that he shouldnt be allowed to fight. He can handle himself professionally. But let's be honest, the NSAC would sanction a fight between Mayweather and a Gorilla if they were gonna get a piece of a $200 million purse.

LOL, MMA gloves. Floyd doesn't even allow his opponents to choose their own brand of gloves, much less the weight. You're not allowed to wear punchers gloves, made out of horse hair. When you fight Floyd in the contract you agree to fight with foam based gloves, that are bigger and more defensive gloves, than the horse hair ones.

false, only happened with Maidana. his customized glove did look mad suspect tho lol

That's another strategy - Conor keeps trash talking non-stop and staying away from Mayweather; Mayweather gets pissed and steps in for an infight and BAM! Jolt counter!

except Mayweather is great at infighting/fighting in the pocket. dude beat Hatton at his own game

I agree with you 100% and made similar points....the decider for me was Mickey Gall or Floyd Mayweather....that's what makes this crazier for me.

Off the top of my head: Iron Mike, Prince Nas, RJJ, Toney, Ali, Mayorga. Edited because a couple more just popped into my head: Camacho, Hopkins, Jack Johnson for the sheer historical significance.

Hopkins is my favorite trash talker. Antonio Tarver couldn't deal with him. He kind of mellowed out by the Wright fight but he could perform surgery on a man's psyche.

I can't fucking believe it's actually happening.
I can.

#FollowTheMoney

And seriously, I mean it. Yes, it is a total freak show fight, but Conor is gonna earn his biggest payday of all-time by far.

And I say all of this as someone who normally hates sports, and normally does not even post in sports threads, so yeah, this freak show of a fight will draw MONEY, and at the end of the day, that's the biggest point of the fight. Honestly, I cannot blame them, either.

I've got this one for Conor McGregor via headkick into a double leg takedown and ground and pound until the ref pulls him away.

wait theyre boxing?

oh shit conors fucked

So you agreed with him when he was saying Rhonda could beat Floyd?
Of course not, it's ridiculous to suggest Ronda or Conor could beat Floyd.

My point was sometimes people that know a lot about certain topics talk absolute bullshit because they're overhyped on something/someone.

Mayweather is too intelligent of a fighter for McGregor to have any real chance, Mayweather plays just as much with the rules of the sport as he does the act of boxing.

I hope McGregor just chooses to ignore boxing rules and kicks that fuck in the head. He has no chance otherwise, and Mayweather does not have the balls to make this a fair match.

Maybe choke him out if he gets the chance. This is not a real boxing match, no reason for him to pretend it is one. Get your money and win the fight while being disqualified.

In what possible situation could Mayweather v McGregor be a fair fight?

Probably never. But if McGregor ignored the rules of boxing, and took Mayweather by surprise, he could maybe take him down. Much in the way that Mayweather beats the shit out of women when they least expect it.

Floyds age is the only big factor. He already is considerably slower but he got smarter and found ways to win. 2 years will have passed when he fights Mac since his last fight so maybe he got really really old overnight during these 2 years.

Floyds fight IQ is tremendous but the counter shot KO could be there. C...could b...be

Bovada thinks Floyd has a 83,33% chance of winning. Thats interesting because you probably cant find better odds on Pluto. Take it!

Nah, at least Conor actually boxed. A guy with 2 years experience against a legit brown belt is absurd

If Conor blatantly ignores the rules of boxing he probably loses out on his payday and that's the real reason these two are doing this so I'm guessing he plays by the rules.

Why the fuck would he need to do that? He gets paid win or lose.

McGregor will go down, boxing is not a stupid sport when you're passing more time smelling the ass of your adversary instead of being in front of him.

Boxing > MMA.

This is going to be a super interesting fight. I saw a Dana White interview yesterday on CNBC where he said McGreggor could/would probably be making over 100 million$ on this fight - and Mayweather would be more. Thats huge...

STOP

This doesn't speak for most boxing fans. Most people who love fighting respect both sports.

Mcgreggor is a genius... I have no idea how he's managed to convince everyone about this fight.

Dude is getting an enormous stack of cash for what?
Trash talk for the next few months, worst case scenario he takes some punches for 30 minutes.

If he loses everyone is just like, well that was to be expected...
If by some miracle he manages to beat Mayweather he makes an even bigger name for himself.

Dude is an amazing win win situation! Trolling genius!

I don't give a shit what anyone says, I believe in Conor. The gods will bless him, the stars will align, and the domestic abusing POS Money will finally get knocked out.

Just gotta believe.

Cue everyone saying "Money can't lose, it's impossible, etc. etc." blah blah blah

All I'm gonna say is, I've seen a lot of his fights hoping the same would happen. Never did. If you didn't get into the hype of Mayweather Pacquiao, you aren't prepared for the disappointment that this fight will bring you :/

Except that Mayweather is the equivalent of a BJJ Coral Belt Master, not a well-trained brown belt. Conor's boxing experience is moot in this case. He has minimal experience, none of it in an actual boxing ring, and most of his training time has been focused on other aspects of the sport. You can't even use a traditional boxing stance and defense in MMA, which is why Conor has little need to spend excessive time training those very important skills.

Conor has just as many boxing matches as CM Punk had MMA matches. The difference is that Mickey Gall was in his 3rd pro fight, not his 50th.

I can't believe there are people dumb enough to think McGregor could actually win. Even Conor knows he can't win. He's just there for the giant paycheck.

Ehh, doubt it. Don't get me wrong, Floyd is going to clown him, I say that as a huge Conor fan, but Floyd isn't going to KO him early. I can see Conor getting exhausted after throwing huge shots out of frustration, and then Floyd knocks him down for the count.

Only way this one ends in round one is if Conor takes him down and gets DQed, but that would probably effect his purse, so that ain't happening.

The interviews are going to be legendary.

I think Floyd may actually play with him for a few rounds, try to make a rematch possible and pull in even more sweet loot.

Ah, okay. I thought as much but wasn't sure lol. I feel the same way. George Foreman as an analyst comes to mind.
