It had previously been reported but now its confirmed, Davis totally surrenders on issues of sequencing within hours of the negotiating starting:

He previously said it would be the "row of the summer"

Whats annoying me is that I am not sure is it a majority government running the show or are the tories just running it as a minority and giving zero fucks right now?

They haven't agreed anything with the DUP have they?

We'll find out the DUPs price for saving the day tomorrow.

Hmm English votes for English laws will block dup from most areas lol
But the Tories have a majority in England iirc
It is Wales and Scotland that stops them while Scotland gave them just enough gains to hang on after getting a kicking in England and Wales.

Not really. EVEL is nothing more than Commons standing orders. They can easily be scrapped or amended and even if they aren't, all they amount to is a "veto" for English MPs on England-only government bills. Any bill considered under EVEL would still need to be voted on by the whole House of Commons to proceed to the Lords.

It's not going to be interesting is it. The EU set out their stall ages ago and won't budge. The UK either has to leave like idiots with nothing or leave like idiots with something similar to what they had before but no say in any EU matters. It will be embarrassing, stupid and a waste of everyone's time that will leave the UK thinking, why did we do this....

Hopefully it goes horribly and people attach it to the tories for decades. It won't happen but a man can dream

The will of the people. It is the alpha and the omega. The beginning, the middle and the end. To question the will of the people is to be an enemy of the people and a citizen of nowhere.
Hail Hydra.

This sounds like something IDS would actually say verbatim.

Davis is trying to pretend they still have a mandate, he won't get far with that approach.

British negotiators have capitulated to key European demands for a phased approach to Brexit talks, agreeing to park discussions on free trade until they have thrashed out the cost of the multibillion-euro UK divorce settlement.

The chief EU negotiator, Michel Barnier, made clear that he believed Britain was in no position to dictate the timing of the negotiations. “The UK has asked to leave the EU, not the other way around, so we each have to assume the consequences of our decisions and the consequences are substantial,” he replied, when asked if the EU was making any concessions of its own. “Please do not underestimate those consequences.”

Jean-Claude Juncker’s chief of staff, Martin Selmayr, gave an insight into the EU side’s take on Britain’s preparations by retweeting a Daily Telegraph cartoon in which a hapless Davis is seen struggling with a paper strewn desk. “Whenever you’re ready, Mr Davis,” Barnier is seen telling the Brexit secretary facing him across a long desk.

Ain't that the truth. People fail to realise that.

If you'll permit me to briefly derail the thread:

I want to say a massive, massive thank you to Roberto Larcos for putting in the time and effort to run the election prediction competition, and for his generosity in providing the prize. I am very grateful and very humbled. Truly, you are a wonderful gentleman.

And to everyone who competed, I have one thing to say: cheers! :D

Irish PM 'reassured' over DUP deal

Earlier, Theresa May welcomed the new Irish Prime Minister for talks in Downing Street.

Afterwards, Leo Varadkar said he felt reassured by what he had heard from Mrs May about a potential deal between the Democratic Unionist Party and the Conservatives.

On Brexit, he said he hoped that any border between the two countries would be "invisible" and that citizens' rights would remain the same.

Tim Farron: Davis has capitulated
The Lib Dem leader Tim Farron has accused the Brexit Secretary David Davis of caving in on day one of the talks about Britain leaving the EU.

He said:

David Davis said the row of the summer would be over the sequencing of Brexit talks, and one day in he has capitulated. The man is a joker. Despite the Government's posturing, the EU was clear today it has not made a single concession to David Davis. He has been utterly humiliated."

All this shit about backdoors and internet crackdowns is 100% coming directly from TM herself, she was always pushing this nonsense as Home Sec. I expect it will all get dropped when she gets the boot.

I doubt that, I feel like banning encryption and full spying, warrantless searches is an over-arching agenda beyond politics. Did she even mention the links between the Finsbury Park attack and banning encryption etc.

We wouldn't? What an awful suggestion.
I don't think you fully understand the impact the brexit vote has had on the lives of EU residents in the UK. Allowing someone who voted to destroy the lives of many of those people to be rewarded with an EU citizenship is unfathomable.

This would be a spit in the face.

Sure I understand, doesn't make your idea any less vindictive.

As an EU citizen; this shouldn't be allowed unless the UK provides British citizenship to EU citizens. I'm sorry, but it wouldn't be fair otherwise.
All I want at a minimum is to keep my right to freedom of movement.
Even if that means something like paying a yearly fee, like paying my proportion of the current UK membership fee.

No worries - you'll need it over the next few y̶e̶a̶r̶s̶ m̶o̶n̶t̶h̶s̶ w̶e̶e̶k̶s̶ days.

Don't forget that this government has the ability to pass laws via the consent of the DUP, who as British-Irish citizens keep all rights currently enjoyed by British citizens as EU residents.

This cheers me up endlessly when I consider the democratic legitimacy of this government.

As is ripping away the EU citizenship of those who've had it their whole lives and wanted to keep it that way. The twats who voted leave fucked us over too, remember. I doubt that anything will come from this, but I'll be grabbing at it with both hands if it does.

Those Leave voting assholes destroyed my life as well. I want to keep my free movement rights. People who voted for and value their EU citizenship shouldn't have it forcibly removed from them. People like me who intended on using their rights in future before this shitty vote should be helped as well as a matter of fairness. If you want to stop brexiters from getting this limit it to 18-35's only. The sad thing is that I would be fine if I was a few years older and was able to move before all this happened!

It's so fucked up. These people taking away the rights of so many. For what? Fuck.

Maybe this associate membership should also request to achieve the same for eu folks in the UK. I honestly can't see it going any other way. The UK can't run on a platform of wanting to remove the rights of EU citizens then have those same rights guaranteed for it's own citizens. If immigration wasn't such a big issue, it would have been feasible, but with brexiteers at the helm, it simply can't be.
Fucks sake.

All I'm going to say is when this is all said and done, anyone who admits to voting leave best do so with full knowledge that they rend their life forfeit.

Err? WTF? My Dad might be uninformed and reactionary but threats on his life are not really cool. WTF are you on about?

You might want to rewrite this post to make it sound less like you're about to drive a van into a group of brexiters. Seriously, the hell is wrong with you?

So saying brexiters shouldn't be allowed to have more rights than EU citizens to live and work where they want in Europe is vindictive?
No, saying Brexiters should have fewer rights than remainers is vindictive.

Hell it's only intended as a punishment, so why stop there? Why don't we start throwing people in jail for voting wrong?

Did I miss something or does the UK still have no idea what they are doing or what they realistically want out of brexit?

As an EU citizen; this shouldn't be allowed unless the UK provides British citizenship to EU citizens. I'm sorry, but it wouldn't be fair otherwise.

Also, how are we gonna stop Brexiters from getting this supposed citizenship? All around bad idea.

While I get what you are saying, this would actually be to the benefit of the EU, in the case of an hard brexit, the UK will almost assuredly see a significant brain drain, the more the EU facilitates moving people from the UK to the EU, the more it will happen, and the more the EU gains from it.
So as someone that would be displeased if the UK turned around tomorrow and said they changed their minds and everything went back to normal, I still think this is a great idea.

How would someone like the PM of Poland break that news to their citizens? "Sorry you got deported and your life uprooted. Btw, Brits can still come to Poland with full freedoms".

Not sensible.
