Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight finalized for Aug. 26 - It's on!

I hope Anthony Joshua reigns for a long time but Andre Ward should be a bigger star in boxing than he is. It's a damn shame his overall great showing last night will mostly go untalked about because of this. His accomplishments and general integrity should be celebrated but they aren't.

As for Floyd, I've watched him be an awful human being ever since I got interested in boxing 12 years ago. Pretty much every fight of his I kept hoping someone would put him away. After a while the intense rage just wore me out and didn't do anything to Floyd. I can't help but get into the mechanics of a fight because I'm a nerd about this shit but my advice is 1) don't put money in his pocket and 2) dismiss him as a person worth your time and energy and acknowledgement. His day could very well come one way or another(probably in court).

Speaking of someone who should be a bigger star, Rigondeaux, poor guy can't even get a proper fight. He's calling out everyone but ever since he destroyed Nonito Donaire everyone seems to be scared to even mention his name and act like he doesn't even exist.

Berto ain't no JMM

And McGregor ain't no Berto. Those gifs are just to show that just 2 years ago Mayweather still had amazing speed and reflexes so I doubt he has diminished significantly since.

No one is saying he deserves to die. If you don't want to acknowledge who he is, fine, but don't come in here getting mad at people who do. I'm a pretty forgiving person, but this guy doesn't even admit what he does to women and doesn't act even the slightest bit repentant. He just goes on and on about how he makes a lot of money so that makes it all ok, and then boosts up motherfuckers like Kadyrov and Trump.

If the day ever comes when he decides to change, good for him, but the excuse that his background was rough doesn't hold water at 41. People can change if they want to.

He has gone on numerous shows and said he makes mistakes and has been "repentant" as u state. You choose not to see that or acknowledge that and continue to hate. He makes 100+ million in 36 minutes and lives a lifestyle that many dream of doing for just one day. And that's what really tears u up inside.

Seems extremely repentant. I'm happy dude is making stacks doing what he loves, but the problem of violence against women is just being brushed under the rug. Which is cool I guess.

No, domestic violence does because it happened to my Mom. Using money as a justification for it is fucking disgusting and you should be deeply embarrassed for making this post.

Please. 2 of 3 months? Hardly serving time.

"Josie Harris, Mayweather's former long-term partner and mother to three of his four children, doesn't see Mayweather much these days. Occasionally he will collect their children in person, but more often than not they are transported using the jet service he uses for much of his travel outside of Las Vegas."

Seems like a great working relationship.

Floyd's judge said this, "beating a lady is highly critical, [but] it is not a major sin or crime.”
Hm. Interesting. If I assault someone it is highly critical, but not a major sin or crime. I wonder where that line of thinking originates from.

"(It means) I don't have to take a Xanax before he comes, otherwise I will be sweating bullets," Harris told USA TODAY Sports in an interview at her home 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles. "For some reason I still get anxiety when I know that he is on his way. I have no idea why, but I get really overwhelmed when I know that I have to be around him."

This woman had to take xanax to calm her nerves before he came home and you think 2 of 3 months is fair?

Oh he came from a broken household? Okay, I understand that affects people.

"Harris says she suffered physical abuse from the boxer on "six occasions," the worst coming in September 2010, when Mayweather entered Harris' home as she slept, yanked her to the floor by her hair, then punched and kicked and screamed cuss words at her in front of their children. It was the couple's oldest son, Koraun, who slipped out of the house to alert a security guard to summon police."

He did that shit 6 times. 2 of 3 months. The woman that birthed his children? That's not justice. Slap on the wrist. Hey I appreciate what Floyd does in the ring. He is a master. I am a fan of all forms of pugilism as long as it isn't a man beating a defenceless woman.

How do u know she is telling the truth. Punching and kicking her? Somebody has to have pictures. As for the sons testimony. He was a child seeing his mom roughed up and ran for help. It doesn't mean she was a punching bag. FM would have killed her. There was a boxing match that FM had both his baby's mommas at. Josie went bat shit insane over one of FM side chicks. And that was fairly recent. To me she is a jealous chick that can't stand to see him with other bitches. She is going to say what she can to get as much money from him as possible. And 3 months is justice. That's why our justice system is fucked up now. People like u want to throw the book at ppl. How long should he have remained behind bars. Should he of had to give up his fortune too? Your too wrapped on his personal life.

This is some "grab her by the pussy is locker room talk" type of apologism.

Again u don't know what happened. Where are the pictures of this brutality that tool place all these times? We saw the pictures of the MMA dude that damn near killed the pornstar as well as countless other celebrity assaults. Im not denying that she didnt get roughed up but u know what that shit happens every day. She could have jumped on him we don't know. My mom and dad used to get into it all the time when i was a kid. My mom got bold and hit my dad a few times. She got roughed up for it and guess what. They are still together to this day going on 35 years. U dont know what the fuck happened stop acting like it is as cut and dry as your making it.

Are some of us still entertaining the ridiculous notion that Conor McGregor has anything more than an infinitesimal puncher's chance in this fight or are we now all ready to accept that we're really just paying for the pre-fight hype, spectacle, drama and press conference antics and trash talking that will surely be more entertaining than the bout itself?
So you're saying the actual good part will be free? Excellent.

100% people will be buying this because of the "what if" factor. McGregor is 1) a huge underdog and 2) strutting into another discipline and challenging one of the best of this era, so he can't really lose here even if he gets knocked out - never mind the rumoured triple digit million dollar payday he'll get out of it.

Manny and Floyd ended up having more on common than anyone ever imagined.

It's always a hoot to listen to people rant about Floyd being a piece of shit; Manny is as big a piece of shit or more as Floyd. So is Kovalev, Stevenson; news flash, PLENTY of boxers are ugly human beings out of the ring. These morality checklists rarely add anything to the conversation of boxing, and always derails the topic.

I'm wrapped up in his personal life because my mother has been abused by my father, so you best believe this shit is personal. I never said throw the book at him, you're the one making that assumption. Again I never said he should give up his fortune, that is your own hyperbole. I do think he could have made a contribution to support domestic abuse, and he had the chance do so on national television to save some face - and man that totally would have helped to reconcile him as a man. But he chose not and instead cited the fact that there were no pictures, even though he admitted guilt to the assault charges and went to jail for it? lol makes absolutely no sense but okay. If he was truly not guilty he would have fought tooth and nail to save his image.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/01/opinions/reyes-mayweather-fight/index.html

Floyd has "had at least seven assaults against five women that resulted in arrest or citations in addition to other episodes in which the police were called but no charges filed."

What does that tell you? They all jumped on him? Damn women must be really ballsy to take on Floyd.. but as you said Floyd would kill them all so.... hmm what kind of conclusions can we draw from that.

Anyway regardless, I believe that the highest paid sports athletes, faces, icons should be held to the highest standard of the law. Or else no precedents will ever be set and domestic violence will continue in it's swept under the rug fashion. Sorry for killing the thread boys but the amount of ignorance is staggering.

The most ridiculous ban I've had on this forum resulted from informing someone who obviously a boxing newbie that Manny was no saint himself; the poster was trashing Floyd personally saying he hoped Manny won as a result lol.

Yes and no. I'd say it's really not because those parts are only happening because people are willing to pay to see the fight, because like I said, they want to see the drama, and because you rightly pointed out, the "what if" factor is a draw in and of itself.

I would love to be a fly on you FM haters wall for a month and see just how much of a piece of shit you are in life. i'm sure you have some sick fetish or habit/lifestyle that most would disagree with. You hop on message boards and call him a woman beater and all kinds of stuff. You weren't there and have no idea what happened in those situations.

Unless there is actual proof of floyd hitting a woman, why should I believe any of them? How do I know they aren't lying?

Spousal abuse is a terrible thing but it's also a pretty common thing.

GAF is t_d now I guess. What the fuck. On the real, the last time I read some shit like this I was being shown Trump supporter nonsense by a friend.

I say this as someone who makes a hobby out of boxing and loves to watch PBF box. This is some seriously sick shit.

People get banned for waaaaay less than this. What the fuck happened to this forum? I'm legit shocked.

Same. I have to step out of this thread, I don't really understand why this kind of shit is being allowed.

You do the same thing in every Mayweather topic though; you're dislike of Floyd dominates any talk of actual boxing. That attracts the stans who get defensive, and then here we are. That's why I don't get caught up in the personal life of these athletes; if the topic was "Floyd beats up his girlfriend" then okay it's fair game, but we're far off topic now, and crazy shit is getting tossed around. It ain't worth it.

No words. I'm done looking at people cape up for this dirt bag. I need to just avoid Mayweather threads.

Nobodies really talking boxing in this thread. This fight is a joke. It has about as much relevance to actual boxing as the time Ali fought that Japanese professional wrestler. It's all spectacal and the celebrity/fan following of the two fighters.

Ward beating Kovalev: That's boxing. GGG fighting Canelo: That's boxing. Joshua dethroning Klitscko: That's boxing.

This is just an excuse to wallow in the worst aspects of combat sports.

I'm not responsible for the nutcase stans, and I didn't plan on talking about PBF's personal stuff anymore past the post I made following Shadow's until they came out and said some insanely stupid shit.

I agree, and at least that's on topic. The fans will be the biggest losers here, while these two line their already fat pockets with even more cash.

I will refrain from stating "most" - but many boxers were raised in conditions of poverty, in communities steeped in crime, violence and ignorance. They typically underachieved in school and never sought higher education if they graduated at all. No matter how much money they make, the effects of growing up like that cannot be taken out of them. This is not to say we should give them a pass.

No, absolutely not, but I don't think there's anything wrong with acknowledging where they come from and how that has impacted them, and why these are not the type of people we should look to as role models. Not unless they take on that responsibility, be it intentionally or by burden of example.

More to the point, regarding this thread: Mayweather's failures as human being - and he has many - are worthy of scorn and condemnation. They have little to do, however, with his boxing ability, and I think in the interest of discussing an upcoming bout, we should leave them out of this thread, because nothing worthwhile will come out of discussing them.

I will leave this abuse discussion with a few links the thread has been derailed and I apologize for my part in that.

Now they have reconciled whatever happened and are apparently in a good place. You guys have not moved on and are still throwing stones. Your hate for him clouds anything he has done for the community or the poor. He didn't spend the money where you wanted so that gives you your window to keep hating him. It's sad really. I disagree with a lot of what FM does but you guys calling him a POS and all the extra shit is unnecessary.

Matured is weak as fuck for a 40 y/o man.

For the record I like floyd the boxer not the person.

No one is saying he deserves to die. If you don't want to acknowledge who he is, fine, but don't come in here getting mad at people who do. Getting mad? If you re-read my message again, people are discrediting his career due to this. That's what I was referencing from that long winded post about how horrible of a person he is and how he's not a good inside fighter, etc. Trust, I'm not upset people don't like Mayweather.

Please. 2 of 3 months? Hardly serving time.

Your feelings are valid. How can we help to change that slap on the wrist? I for one feel that the people excusing this and defending it are the ones giving him a paycheck....Clearly Pacquio, Berto, Canelo, and now Connor don't have problems with a woman beater as long as they are cutting a check from it. Where's that outrage from that? Maybe we should petition Dana White or something. I mean, it's not like Floyd is walking into a ring and fighting himself making all this money.

Of course you can't and don't want to prevent fighters from making their livelihoods, but it is very telling of our society.. how domestic violence is seen as something incurable - just a naturalized part of life because that's what men do. 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence. 25%. That's an epidemic to me. All that can be done is spreading awareness on a subject that isn't looked at twice because obviously it doesn't effect men the same way it does women.

Conor is currently North of 175lbs

I think he's probably the biggest / heaviest fighter Floyd has ever faced

Taller and longer reach than either Canelo or Gatti

Absolutely fucking disgusting there are people on this forum defending Floyd.

When did this become an MRA thread?

Anyone who knows what they are talking about knows Floyd is a serial liar, a jealous racist who hates everyone who isn't black, a horrific abuser and beater of women. Beating, kidnapping, threatening to have women gang rapped by his body guards. Yes, people should boycott him. And I hope Conor embarrassed him by bringing up his penchant for torturing and abusing helpless women. His coach did, so that is a good start.

The fight is going to be pure garbage. Would not waste my money and a Saturday night over such a boring piece of shit. Also, where did this myth emerge from that Floyd is a good trash talker? LOL. He's an angry bore who cannot control his himself or his outbursts. He's actually fucking terrible at trash talking. He's not funny, humorous or cool. Just dumb, angry and impulsive. His version of trash talking his telling Rick Hatton that he is going to butt fuck him. Wow. What an amazing trash talker. Floyd is dim and not smart or quick witted enough to be an even mediocre trash talker.

Im going to paraphrase Dave Chapelle here and say that these are people who raised themselves up from the streets with their fists, their trade is literally violence. Maybe people shouldnt be using boxers as champions of liberal values

Managing to not beat multiple women makes someone a champion of liberal values? More MRA shit. I could list off dozens of boxers and MMA fighters who are successful as hell and aren't total scumbags. Off the top of my head, Stipe Miocic the current HW UFC champ is a fire fighter in his spare time and has a wife he hasn't physically abused.

Conor's manager said that the UFC deal with Reebok is not in effect for this fight so Conor is free to negotiate and sign with any apparel sponsor of his choosing.

That's an extra million for him right there.

Also sounds like Gervonta Davis is going to be on the undercard. Floyd usually hijacks his shows to talk about himself so at least this time he'll be within his rights to keep Tank quiet :lol

I'd bet you'd pay to see him get his ass kicked right ?

So, this is a straight boxing match, rather than an MMA fight? Why? McGregor's gonna get wrecked. It's not even fair.
It's easy to spin it both ways.

Mayweather's take is that he is the A-side and McGregor simply has to play by his rules, period.

McGregor's spin is that he is ready to go over into Mayweather's discipline to "conquer" boxing, while Mayweather is not willing (or able) to do the same with MMA, playing into McGregor's existing image.
