All Revenge of the Fallen has going for it is the action, everything else ranges from ok to mostly horrible and the movie goes downhill even further once Optimus died.

Action is absolutely fucking meaningless if you don't care about what's going on.

Action is dictated by tension. Tension is dictated by plot/character investment, solid pacing, stakes, urgency, emotion-- all things not a single one of these films have.

On one hand, that's totally true. That's what elevates the classics of the genre

But on the other...crazy ridiculous spectacle can tickle that base reptilian brain that doesn't care about tension or story or why things are happening. If the spectacle is expensive and pretty enough of course.

I think what I'm trying to say is this. There's:

a) quality action involving good characters with solid tension

b) spectacle action that you're not exactly invested in, but it's still fun

c) action that might be fun to watch if it weren't sandwiched between a shitty story with shitty characters, shitty tone-deaf humor, shitty pacing, etc

You're saying that you would prefer A but would be fine with B. This is not B. This is C. Worse than C.

I'm no fan of Bayformers, but this was in no way worse than Age of Extinction or Revenge of the Fallen. Sorry, you people either have shit poor memory, or are attention whoring with your hot takes.

a) Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Star Trek.

b) Pacific Rim

c) Transformers, Godzilla (1999), BC -10000, 2012, ID4...

I don't do the hot take thing. I'm not trying to have any "hot takes."

I thought this was legitimately worse. Revenge of the Fallen has similar problems to this, but I thought they were worse here. Age of Extinction had similar problems as well but for me it was mostly just boring/dull.

b) Pacific Rim

Ah, good example here.

This movie is worse than Revenge of the Fallen and Age of Extinction.

Yeah

I didn't want to believe it either.

Lookin' forward to the next one, though.

Jk, I get it lol

At least next year's Bumblebee spinoff has a chance. Different writers, no Bay. And Bumblebee is Bestformer.

Watch it be by fuckin' far the best one.

I won't enjoy this, but I still want to sit though it so I can appreciate the We Hate Movies episode afterward

People hating on Prime for being a murder in the Bay films

Don't you remember he was about to execute Megatron in the animated film until Hot Rod got in the way?

Just got back from it, it was definitely a plodding movie and many of the jokes fell flat. At least Laura Haddock has nice boobs.
Also I was expecting Joshua Joyce here. Wondering where Bumblebee got his new tech

Look my favorite part of the 3 films I watched was Devastator transforming because it was legitimely cool. And Megs hands turning into a canon shooting Prime in the first film. But no thank you to Sam's parents, Sam's fucking idiot friend in the 2nd film, the Jordanians, Cade Yaeger, his daughter, etc.

I just watch actual Transformers only clips on youtube, no way I'm sitting through a whole Bay-formers film in theaters again.

Let's relive the coolest part of any of these shit films.

I've never seen so much as a trailer for the Transformers movies. That was fucking awful.

...were those supposed to be testicles banging around on him? The fuck?

Expected reviews. Day fucking 1 baby.

edit: wait, I misunderstood, I thought you meant 'I expected reviews here', not "reviews are as expected".

Speaking of which, at this time, Rottentomatoes for this movie is at 17%
Average Rating: 3.4/10
Reviews Counted: 69
Fresh: 12
Rotten: 57

Critics Consensus: Cacophonous, thinly plotted, and boasting state-of-the-art special effects, The Last Knight is pretty much what you'd expect from the fifth installment of the Transformers franchise.

3/10

2007’s “Transformers” found a balance between the big action and exposition, building an intriguing toy-based fantasy world to explore. The sequels have all missed the mark, finding Bay enjoying the unpleasantness of it all. “The Last Knight” appears to be building a new narrative direction for future “Transformers” adventures, and while Bay claims he won’t be back, he’s completely severed any reason to care where Prime and the Bots end up.

Wow.

There are always going to be ardent fans of director Michael Bay. People who not only respond to the helmer’s pictures, but wear their fandom like a badge of honor, proud to celebrate a man whose chief pursuit during his career has been the creation of utter screen chaos.

WELL SAID. HEAR HEAR! #ThereWillAlwaysBeUs #BadgeOfHonor #ScreenChaos

You liked Hardcore Henry, didn't you? 😉

Trailers for this made me sad; visually it is incredible, an artistic and technical triumph... but all that work is in service of what? Yeesh.

Ah, so Hardcore Henry and Ghost Rider 2 would be B. I think only the first Transformers I would put in B. Shoot Em Up would be A, along with all the other critically acclaimed action movies.

In absolutely no way is this an artistic triumph. In fact, every single technical triumph is immediatly and completely undermined by the worst possible artistic choices by the director, sound mixer, actors & editor, making it impossible to actually appreciate the technical marvel since it's impossible to dissect, take in or, really, discern what's happening with the way the camera moves, the scenes are edited and the robots look. This is not a good action movie. The action is, again, save for a few scenes at the end, unanimously terrible and there isn't even all that much in there in the first two thirds.

It's like getting the fastest car in the world but the steering wheel is broken, the breaks don't work, you can't shift down and your passenger continously punches you in the face. Yes, you could still drive really fast, but there is absolutely no enjoyment in it.

This seems terrible and after reading those spoilers I'm totally watching it when it's on TV. I need to experience this for sure.

17% is honest to god way too fucking high.

It needs to be lower. Only the best of the best.

Honestly, your hope for an honest to god good Transformers movie is to have the rights stripped away from Paramount. Crazy spectacle is what that studio lusts after.

It is possible to dislike something without feeling the need to tell everyone who does like it that they're wrong, endlessly. I feel like sometimes that's forgotten in the age of Twitter and whatnot.

For example, I think anime and JRPGs are among the worst things in popular entertainment. I'm also not fond of Marvel movies. But, somehow, I don't feel the need to inform people who do enjoy those things that I feel that way, because their enjoyment of them doesn't affect my life.

I'm not telling anyone their wrong, if they do like it, good for them. What I am saying is the haters stuff is a just lazy retort, it's bullshit, well the ones who use it seriously that is.

I don't get the hate for Transformers, are people who shit on it expecting Citizen Kane or something?

I like dumb action movies.
I liked Battleship and even enjoyed my time with the new Independence day. I also think Transformers 1 and 3 were decent.

But I couldn't even finish watching Transformers 4. Except for production values they are on a whole other level of bad than your average dumb action movie.
The humor is terrible, the acting of almost everyone involved is often terrible and the writing borders on not even making sense. They are also super long without needing to be so they are full of weird and unnecessary scenes.

I know you could argue the same for stuff like Battleships and it's often true. But they manage to stay at a level of bad that is enjoyable for a fun action flick, transformers takes all of those elements and somehow makes them exponentially worse.

So it's actually worse than Revenge of the Fallen? I might need to watch this one.

Not every film has to be Citizen Kane, but it's nice if it at least makes sense.

I liked Revenge of the Fallen alright. I've only seen the first two and I think I like these movies best when it's about the humans. I hate the military stuff but I love when it's about Sam and Mikaela. Which is why I think it sucks that Spielberg removed Megan Fox from the franchise.
