Female only gaming event cancelled following online harassment

Couldn't you just say "stop using women as objects" if that is what you meant? I don't even mean this as accusatory, probably better off stating what you mean than using slang.

Well you know how it is you start a sentence and before you know it you're trapped with the beginning not knowing the word that may let you continue so you improvise.

I couldn't care less if they had the event, shame on them for caving to the trolls.

I don't understand the absolute frailty "gamers" have. The man children that act this way and exclude, and on the other side the "they said hateful ignorant things to me, I'm out" people. Women, minorities, whatever should go and attend things they enjoy attending. Wear your thick skin and shut the people up. Bullies and ignorance will always exsist and people will always overcome them, or fear it and let it control their lives.

I've been there I've lived through it, I've let things get me down and I've also brushed them off. Women shouldn't feel on the outside of the gaming world, but they also shouldn't let themselves sit there either. I don't tell my wife to not go online and play, I don't tell her to avoid playing with randoms. If I have a daughter I won't discourage her from playing games If that's what she wants nor deture her from comics or "nerd" culture. I applaud all the people that stand up for themselves and do what they want and try not to let harassment stop them, it's tough!

You can do anything you want to do, doesn't matter what the haters say. Cool Runnings taught me that 😎
"It's your fault for being too sensitive to hateful, disgusting speech. You should ignore the throngs of people harassing you and move on. LOL Cool Runnings."

You might want to think a little more before you post, junior.

Not it's not connoted with bimbo look at the definition its a forme of physical beauty
http://www.linternaute.com/dictionnaire/fr/definition/plastique/
here's a link since to you every word seems connected to bimbo.

No, you misunderstand.
If you're talking about a bimbo and you use the word 'plastique'.
It invites the use of the 2 uses of the word 'plastique'.
'plastique' as in 'arts plastiques' AND 'plastique' as in the material which means when talking about someone that they've had plastic surgery to improve their shape.
And the bimbo definition certainly implies corrective surgery as shown earlier :
Often having a strong breast redone, associated with the stereotype of the blonde, a bimbo is generally characterized by juvenile, superficial behavior.
.
So your words certainly implied the underlying meaning, you may have not meant to include it but it was certainly there.

Dude be angry all you want I just want to know how to call them I really don't know right now So yeah be as pessimistic as you want but I'm not used to talk about thoses women in english and I don't knwo what is the right term so instead of claiming for a consipiracy why don't you tell me so I can avoid offending anyone in the future?

Assuming you're sincere, just avoid using insults that exclusively target women (like bimbo) if your intent is to criticize regressive commercial practices (like booth babes at conventions).

Considering how you ate up half the thread arguing about this incredibly simple point, I kind of doubt you really just wanted clarification.

Well, you've told already told.

But I'm not buying the act, sorry :)

I am more than fine in accepting okay you didn't understand the context of the word in english. In the future, avoid slang. Say exactly what you mean.

So going back to the main point, do you understand that not everything is about educating or opening up a specific dialogue? If women just wanna network and talk why does that suddenly need to be so much more? Why is this specific thing such a missed opportunity but the 1000000 other times men or the industry as a whole not advocating for women some how not missed chances?

Yeah sorry about that I'll try to remember booth workers in the future or look up my posts to remember.

And I never thought it was that conotted believe me I had the same problem when I used the words "japs" I really had no idea it was an insult but you know sometimes what's I admit is not the most gentle word may sound way sorse in other languages.
And some jumped on myè throat when it was just an honest mistake and it's hard sometime to justify what you said in another language especialy late at night.

oh ok Booth Workers I get it now.So please guys excuse I didn't know Booth workers was the right terms but to my defense even in french I don't know how to call them so I didn't know what to translate.

You know what, now that we cleared up what you ment and corrected the word bimbo. I agree with what you said. I'm also glad if they got rid of the "booth babes." They really have no place in gaming events, neither do those strippers at Microsoft GDC party. And I also want women developers, writers, designers and execs to be more visible and numerous in the industry. It's not just us the consumers that need to be active and vocal. It's the industry itself.

How else does change happen, throughout history? One can still wear an hardened outside and feel on the inside. I'm not saying people don't say horrible toxic stuff, they do and it's not right. The defeatist attitude isn't the one to take for progress. Some people tolerance is higher and I get that.

These posts are my favorite because they can apply to both sides. Hell, "this" could be referring to the existence of this thread for all we know!

Defending the attempt to shut down or otherwise disrupt the event. Forgive me, I foresaw no universe in which anybody should be ashamed of holding such an event.

Because no one was excluded, everyone was welcome.

When I hold a business meeting in a strip-club, no-one is excluded and everyone is welcome but yeah dunno the female staff never really want to come to those for some reason. Maybe women just don't like meetings?

Are bachelorette parties outlawed in Spain too?

I blame marketing. Everything is targeted towards men. We need to get rid of the dude bro image just like we got rid of kiddie image.

Yeah I get now I think damn i can't remember who (Scientific Pizza I got it) made a point that I hadn't thought about before (he had the auction guy on its profile pic).
In fact I thought that those angry men were just some gamers jealous no being ables to attend the event it didn't even crossed my mind that they could be so petty they just would be against something good for women.
That is just disgusting I think I wrote a bit about it but I derailed the thread a bit before that with my misuse or words, once again if some of my pointsd are not clear feel free to correct me or ask me to refrase I'm in my first year learning english after my equivalent of SAT so I'm far from fluent in english.

Yes yes. The internet trolls are the defenders of fairness and justice. And the basis here is public spaces. A place that has been paid for or rented out by a private individual is not subject to these rules.

Oh my god, just stop. This isn't discrimination, you look ridiculous

Can you really be rejected to enter if you weren't invited in the first place?

Do I really have to repeat it? The organization of an event can't discriminate anyone for those reasons. End of discussion.

Oh and btw you can search the twitter profile of the woman who organized it, she clearly is a man-hater and a paranoid (she said that they needed an event like this for the 'safety" of women, which is just ridiculus)

Does a private event count as a "space open to the public"? This reads like it's talking about general public access to businesses, not private events.

event closed down due to harassment

"organizer is paranoid because safety isn't a real problem"

what

You are giving her plenty of reasons to hate men.

I'll share it a second time in the thread: I have talked to women who have been spit on and experienced hostility from men at co-ed gaming events. It's not ridiculous in the slightest.

It doesn't happen by ignoring hatred. It happens by speaking out against it and codifying protections into law, creating disincentives for that behavior in society. Not victim-blaming nonsense.

Human beings are affected emotionally by bad things happening to them. You can try and do something about the bad things, or you can tell people to ignore the bad things and suck it up. Guess which is better?

Online harassment is one thing and another is basically saying that if men were allowed they would phisically abuse women.
W H A T

this is a thread about men abusing women because they created their own event and you are dismissing someone for being worried about the safety of women

????????????????

i'm going to lose my god damn mind

like i don't even want to go into the fact that you unironically used the term man-hater

I HATE THIS THREAD SO MUCH

How do you actually reach someone who thinks like this? You can explain why they're wrong, but how do you really turn their viewpoint?

How are people defending this kind of pettiness? I don't even.

It's a private event. The people there can do and believe whatever they want as long as they don't do any shady stuff.

ughhh... you're the reason that event is needed. Fuck off with this.

Online harassment is one thing and another is basically saying that if men were allowed they would phisically abuse women.

right why would you fear for your safety from a group of men who are planning to invade your event created for women to feel safe because they don't want women to feel safe

So you mean to say that online harassment isn't real?
How can you manipulate my words to this extent? What these guys did was bad? Yes.

I'll share it a second time in the thread: I have talked to women who been spit on and experience hostility from men at co-ed gaming events. It's not ridiculous in the slightest.

Never heard of anything like that and nothing like that was reported in any gaming event in Spain. Not saying that men who ridiculise women who play videogames and don't treat them like "real gamers" are not scum.

Online harassment is one thing and another is basically saying that if men were allowed they would phisically abuse women.

Online harassment from guys like this is frankly enough to begin with, but I'll play along anyway:

Verbal and physical harassment towards women happens at gaming events. It might not be incredibly widespread but it's common enough to warrant things like this.

Why? What power disadvantages do men experience in the gaming community? Are men the extreme minority? Do men face daily harassment from women because of their gender in a male dominated tech field the way women in the gaming industry do? What need is there for a male only event in the gaming community?
So you say men don't have the right to do such an event? Not for the same reasons obviously.

The one thing I don't understand is why those man act like that and why a lot of gamers do too.

Are we (human) so bad inside that just the gender of a person can cause that much hate ?

I'm not even talking about beliefs or race or sexual preference which are usually driven by ignorance, but those guys may know a lot of women competent, smart and everything why wouldn't they be able to have their event ?

How do you become like that ?

So you say men don't have the right to do such event? Not for the same reasons obviously. But do they?
No what he's saying is that the hypothetical is stupid because it misses the point completely in the same way that it's stupid to ask "why isn't there a WHITE history month" or a "why isn't there a white entertainment channel."

Touché, yet in the gaming sphere, people are choosing to exclude the toxic people. In this threads case women want to exclude men for the fear of harassment etc. Don't exclude the toxic people show them for what they are and clean it up and then enact and say this won't be tolerated.

Same on consoles "ew randoms" so party chat exsists excluding those people letting them run rampant. Screw party chat, report those people actually make MS and Sony do something to those people and clean up gaming.

I think it's kinda stupid to organise these "women only" events, just as I would find it equally dumb to organise a "men only" event. However, I am perfectly capable of not liking something while also letting it continue because the whole world doesn't revolve around me.

I wish this trend of "I don't like something, therefore it mustn't exist" would finally blow over.

Are you a man who is speaking from a position of privilege? You sure sound like one.
