Female only gaming event cancelled following online harassment

Trust me I know all about discrimination so cut the condescending rubbish please.

All I'm saying is there'd be uproar if a "Men only" gaming event was organised, that's all.

The gaming industry is already male dominated. There's a difference between these two things.

The pointlessness of the whataboutism that describes a hypothetical men only gaming event ignores the fact that gaming events in general are mostly male dominated to an absurd degree and very very off-putting to women with things such as "booth babes" being used to sell games that have nothing to do with sexual content. So if there was an uproar, it'd be for different reasons. Like somebody said on the last page, it's about as stupid as asking "why isn't there a white history month?"

Yeah exactly. I'm pretty sure it means the same in any language that the word exists, which is why I didn't really buy the excuse.

I don't know who exactly you were referring to as bimbos, so I can't say what word you should use. All I got from it was that you were talking about women in context of video games.

I was talking abou the one exhibitted as piece of meat like in car show I find it really stupid boobs won't sell me a game. But to some publisher it seems to be normal.

Not to get off topic but in the latest TotalBiscuit podcast episode he said how The Last Night controversy was not a big deal. TB pulls a large crowd yet he is unable to take a moment and understand why it was problematic. Industry leaders need to lead from the front with tackling toxicity.
Though from my understanding he pushed GG at one point
In terms of prominence and impact, he was one of the main people pushing it, though he would constantly pull that weaksauce thing where he'd say he was "just asking questions" and how "we just need to focus on all the unethical things done by people who I just happen to disagree with politically" and all that.

Se mamaron los de forocoches.

That's why we need more women on the industry and avoid the "excluding hobby" image that still have.

Wow, that sounds like an awesome event! What a nightmare, though. I can't help but be reminded of 4chan, but instead we're hearing about Forocoches? Hopefully some other people can try this again.

"I know all about sexism, btw here's a totally irrelvant non-point"

Nobody is naive enough to come, post bimbo and then play ignorant to it's connotations. First thing that pops up on google.

You fucking serious man?

in googtrad
Bimbo is a slang term borrowed from English and used to describe a woman who puts her assets forward, who plays her physique on the sexy side, who is not afraid to attract the eye. Often having a strong breast redone, associated with the stereotype of the blonde, a bimbo is generally characterized by juvenile, superficial behavior.

In case anyone wants to check.
So yeah, no.

"Mens only" events happen already. They're just not named as such because, well... let's take a look at E3.

Finding ONE woman quickly turns into a Where's Waldo game

I think that we can't pretend to have 50% men/women in a mixed event if it's "now" that we begin to have women interested in videogames. The numbers aren't still there.

how about you don't presume that all women taking jobs at e3 booths are "bimbos". that sounds pretty good.

Well the definition I get is simply a woman who's not affraid to show her plastic there's no idiot part of any kind.

Some of you may confuse it for the blond stereotype but I wasn't.

Why did they cancel it?
I don't get it, just ignore the trolls and go ahead with your event. By cancelling, trolls already won, don't give them that pleasure.

The vast majority of attendees were men and no one seemed to complain about it.

Tbf, an event that doesn't allow a certain gender and a event that only attracts a certain gender are completely different things. (not saying that one event is worse then the other, but your E3 comparison here doesn't really work).

Regardless of what positive influences TB may have in the PC gaming space from a purely gaming perpective, let's not ever mistake it for TB being a good person.

but it's not GAMING that has a problem, it's just people, man!!!! hashtag thoughts and prayers hashtag not all men!!

But it is people. Any kind of non white male exclusive event has met this response. Just in the last month I saw outrage over Women old screenings of Wonder Woman and some clip of Tucker Carlson being a twat about a black only event.

Not that it's much consolation, but I don't think the reaction is to look at this and be embarrassed by gamers. Look at this and be embarrassed by people (and try to do your best to fight it in gaming circles).

Proof of why these women only events should exist tbh

Agreed.

It's pretty disgusting behaviour.

But to play devil's advocate, I'd like to see the reaction if a "Male only" gaming event was organised.

AHAHAHAHAHAA!!! My dude really tried to slip that in like we wouldn't notice.

There's no need to have a male only event when they already dominate the industry. It's redundant as hell.

It's like when a kid at my college pitched a White Student Association (that "all students" were free to join) to a school mostly white people went to. You're both missing the point of why they make groups and events for certain groups.

Why did they cancel it?
I don't get it, just ignore the trolls and go ahead with your event. By cancelling, trolls already won, don't give them that pleasure.

The trolls could be more than actual women attending the event , hence creating chaos and making feel uncomfortable the women.

Forocoches has tons of subscribers so just a tiny amount of them were needed to troll the event.

I wonder if people who think this is only gamers were surprised by Trump becoming president?

Ah sure, I guess you mean so called "booth babes". To my knowlegde this kind of hiring isn't anymore allowed at E3 either? (feel free to correct) I think it started with PAX that banned it first. Now they have simply booth workers, men and women, who are there to present and demonstrate the games. Rather than hiring women for the sole purpose of titillating the male attendees. It changed so women would be there to sell products, not to be products.

"PAX has a strict ‘no booth babe' policy with the purpose of creating an environment where everyone can feel comfortable and welcome, and the focus is on games, not hired booth staff."

Well the definition I get is simply a woman who's not affraid to show her plastic there's no idiot part of any kind.

Some of you may confuse it for the blond stereotype but I wasn't.

Why the fuck are you assuming that the women who were to appear all got plastic surgery in order to flaunt their sexuality?

Think for a fucking second.

That thing is Sad, the Guy could use that energy to Help a NGO or partipate in a political party or moviment, to Help people and the needed. But he choosed to be an asshole to women that only wants to play games together.

Ugh my faith in humanity IS weaker now.

Trust me I know all about discrimination so cut the condescending rubbish please.

I mean, yeah, there probably would. But that's only because gaming is an incredibly male dominated space with the vast majority of its leaders being male. Dudes don't *need* a male only event because the male voice is the default voice. It's not even remotely fair to directly compare a male only event with a female only event

No one needs you to fly in here and play devils advocate. It's completely unnecessary and contributes nothing of value

Why the fuck are you assuming that the women who were to appear all got plastic surgery in order to flaunt their sexuality?

Ohhh I get why I upset some of you now in French we sa "sa plastique" for "her body" I wasn't talking about surgery just her body but I didn't know how to phrase it.

Well I don't know what else to say shape ? form? I gotta admit I'm not used to talk about women body in english and in french we say "sa plastique" talking about a woman's body so I assumled it was the same.

"plastique" when talking about a bimbo is also about how they're made out of "plastique" since nothing about them is real.
That's also the connotation of the word bimbo.
French is fun.

Couldn't you just say "stop using women as objects" if that is what you meant? I don't even mean this as accusatory, probably better off stating what you mean than using slang.

Trust me I know all about discrimination so cut the condescending rubbish please.

All I'm saying is there'd be uproar if a "Men only" gaming event was organised, that's all.

You are part of the problem. This reasoning is bullshit, antiquated and needs to fuck off.

I didn't blame them at all, chill out. I said that I didn't understand because I couldn't read the details, it's not in English.

It's just a shame that the event was cancelled. I get that it's not something the attendees should have to deal with, but the comments here appeared to be on an online forum. Why would the attendees even see it?

By saying that "maybe they posted out to the wrong audience" you're putting the blame on the organizers of the event, even if you don't intended it to sound that way. Sorry if I seemed too fired up, but you can never be too trusting in this kinds of threads. Some users like to feign ignorance to shitpost all over.

As for how they got to see the harassment... I mean, it's pretty clear that these assholes didn't magically decide to stay in their own little cesspool of a forum. They leaked to Twitter, e-mail, etc. That was the point of their campaign.

So the right term is booth babes ? I don't know I always thought babe was a bit more vulgar than bimbos but seems like I was wrong.

See? Faking ignorance at its finest.

Dude. Seriously. "Booth babes" is offensive and you know it. That's why Budi said "so-called 'booth babes'" and you freaking know it. You're not fooling anyone.

The point is that a male only gaming event would be virtually indistinguishable from a regular gaming event, hence the talk about a male only event is dumb and pointless.

All I'm saying is there'd be uproar if a "Men only" gaming event was organised, that's all.

So what. It's not the same fucking thing at all. We men have had decades of defacto men-only gaming events. We don't have cause to feel uncomfortable or threatened by the behaviour of women at gaming events. We don't have a history of systemic exclusion of our gender from participation in gaming as either a hobby or a career. We don't have a history of receiving death threats for engaging in discussions about games. We don't have to engage with a toxic fanbase that thinks women only play, make or discuss games in order to receive male attention.

So tell me why a men-only event would even need to be held. Because it's bloody obvious why someone would want to have a women-only event.

So the right term is booth babes ? I don't know I always thought babe was a bit more vulgar than bimbos but seems like I was wrong.
I bolded the booth worker for you. That's what they use at these events. And yes I would agree that if E3 didn't already get rid of "booth babes", they really should. But those aren't the only women participating at E3. They work in many different roles just like men do, while highly underrepresented. And this is a problem people are trying to fix.

Dude be angry all you want I just want to know how to call them I really don't know right now So yeah be as pessimistic as you want but I'm not used to talk about thoses women in english and I don't knwo what is the right term so instead of claiming for a consipiracy why don't you tell me so I can avoid offending anyone in the future?

I couldn't care less if they had the event, shame on them for caving to the trolls.

I don't understand the absolute frailty "gamers" have. The man children that act this way and exclude, and on the other side the "they said hateful ignorant things to me, I'm out" people. Women, minorities, whatever should go and attend things they enjoy attending. Wear your thick skin and shut the people up. Bullies and ignorance will always exsist and people will always overcome them, or fear it and let it control their lives.

I've been there I've lived through it, I've let things get me down and I've also brushed them off. Women shouldn't feel on the outside of the gaming world, but they also shouldn't let themselves sit there either. I don't tell my wife to not go online and play, I don't tell her to avoid playing with randoms. If I have a daughter I won't discourage her from playing games If that's what she wants nor deture her from comics or "nerd" culture. I applaud all the people that stand up for themselves and do what they want and try not to let harassment stop them, it's tough!

You can do anything you want to do, doesn't matter what the haters say. Cool Runnings taught me that 😎

The trolls could be more than actual women attending the event , hence creating chaos and making feel uncomfortable the women.

Forocoches has tons of subscribers so just a tiny amount of them were needed to troll the event.

Still no reason not to throw them out. There are terms and conditions on tickets for a reason. Throw out the troublemakers, the attendees will move on after any outburst. The women will look at the bigger picture once the trolls are taken care off. They may come to another event if they see trolls dealt with quickly.

Then maybe white dudes need to start acting like they got some godamned since and quit harassing anyone that doesn't look like them. Until people can fuck with this "I don't agree with insert-only events. We need to live together!" bullshit.

I know plenty of white dudes that are respectful of others but hey, stay angry I guess. I'm sure that anger is only helping people learn respect and all.

I bolded the booth worker for you. That's what they use at these events.

oh ok Booth Workers I get it now.So please guys excuse I didn't know Booth workers was the right terms but to my defense even in french I don't know how to call them so I didn't know what to translate.
