Female only gaming event cancelled following online harassment

I did it before, I was talking of some publishers using them like in car shows and in context I just said women because it is a women even with only women in panels if I said gamers or developper you wouldn't have said anything so stop seing the eveil when there's not.

It might have been a bizarre sentence but english isn't my native language so believe me there were not bad intentions involved.

lol come on you knew exactly what you were saying when you called women they hire for the booths "bimbos"

Fragile masculinity strikes again!

This should've gone through. The misogynists eventually didn't do anything at the women-only screenings for Wonder Woman, and I doubt these Spanish misogynists would either. Security if there was any would just kick them out.

God forbid a group of people systematically treated like shit by an industry and it's main consumer base tries to get together in an environment where they won't be judged for being women in the gaming industry.

i also wanna say that this is right. If someone talks shit in my house i would kick him/her the fuck out.

Of course. Free speech doesn't extend all that far into private property and events. You can kick anyone out for any reason.

Or you can not invite certain segments of the population to your private event.

Kinda like what these women were doing.

Hmm.

And I talked about how the ones with less power and more disgraced are also men. If you can't see that fact (and your fact is correct too) then there is no point on saying anything else.
Dude you have no idea what you are talking aboi, I coal job were some of the best and only real jobs in the mountains and we're primarily held by men and on the homeless part there are plenty of homeless women ,men just overshadow them.

lol come on you knew exactly what you were saying when you called women they hire for the booths "bimbos"

Well not exactly it's 1 am and I'm tired so excuse me if I don't know the exact term for someone you hire for their plastic to promote a game in a language that's not my native one but I can assure you here it's not as conotted as it seems to be in english

Men who complain about and disrupt women's events always come across as the pettiest assholes on the planet. Does it really bother them to have one door closed to them? There is no universe where this qualifies as discrimination or segregation or whatever other injustice they've been waiting their whole miserable lives to experience. Just... come on, guys. You're making us all look bad.

Whenever I see a thread like this have so many posts, I go "how can this be so controversial?". Then I remember that The Last Night thread and how every few posts some new poster would come in, claim total ignorance of what gamergate is, question how maybe "examining" the "merits" of feminism is an idea worth exploring, and use the same sealioning tactics to derail the thread. There was even a dude with a pepe avatar. Of course this thread would have similar shit stirrers. It's always the same playbook too.

"Egalitarianism is better than feminism!" "safe spaces are no different from segregation!"

feh. Get outta here with these dog whistles. We see you.

Personally, I don't agree with any sort of male, female, black, white-only events. It doesn't teach anything and further fuels the fire of those felt excluded. People simply need to learn to respect each other has people.
Then maybe white dudes need to start acting like they got some godamned since and quit harassing anyone that doesn't look like them. Until people can fuck with this "I don't agree with insert-only events. We need to live together!" bullshit.

Title says "Trolling crazy "gamer" feminazis".

The post says "Hey guys, I'm creating the thread to plan out the trolling we're gonna do at the women-only event they wanna do at Barcelona under the excuse that they wanna feel safe and protected. The idea is to dress up as chicks and claim we're tr*nnies and yell death to men. Once we're inside we display our rage. We need a plan, event info, maybe costumes and a telegram group. EDIT: We'll need makeup, women's clothes and a lot of balls." Something like that.

Well, that's disgusting.

The OP is a little confusing, why did the event get cancelled less than a day after the announcement? My spanish is a bit rusty but the organizer seems to say weird things in defending why they cancelled it.

The convention should have gone ahead. Have it the exact same setup (promoting females in gaming) and allow anyone who pays a ticket to come. Anyone acts out of line, fuck them out the door and/or call the cops. You have their money. Then, the next time this event is held those scumbags won't bother turning up and if they do then throw them out if they act up. It will end when we see trolls punished for their actions. We need events to promote gaming with females, we need someone brave to stand up against this shit. (I'm not knocking the organisers here I probably would cancel it too if I was in the same position). Promoting the event as female friendly (or a better phrase, that came off the top of my head) is better than saying no men allowed. That is the phrase (no men allowed) that stirs up the trolls to attack these events.

My Spanish is kinda rusty to non existent so I'm open to correction on some of my comments. I'm getting piece meal information from the thread.

Not to get off topic but in the latest TotalBiscuit podcast episode he said how The Last Night controversy was not a big deal. TB pulls a large crowd yet he is unable to take a moment and understand why it was problematic. Industry leaders need to lead from the front with tackling toxicity.
Though from my understanding he pushed GG at one point

Well gamergate hasn't had a lot of media coverage in europe not to excuse them but I still have trouble understanding what it was about other than that no excuses.

And I talked about how the ones with less power and more disgraced are also men. If you can't see that fact (and your fact is correct too) then there is no point on saying anything else.

How about the thousands upon thousands of women forced into sex work due to poverty, or literal slavery?

And how many of those women end up murdered or dumped in the trash?

But you're moving the goal posts and this isn't about who has the shittiest jobs

I'm having a daughter soon and it's so depressing to think I can't share my hobby with her.... there is zero chance I will encourage her to get into gaming (aside from some future switch sp games maybe)... My gf loves gaming too and I thought about setting her up with twitch to play games for fun as she works part time but nope. no chance. there's no reason why I would get anyone into that situation. It's actively toxic and harmful.

Of course you can find racism, but every country has racists. My point is that you can't remotely compare the obsession on races in the US with any European country. You are pretty fucked up on this issue, guys.

As a European : ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahaha.
We're just better at hiding it.

If dissidents of the mainstream opinions are banned (and so I heard about GAF) then so be it. It will proof that it's literally a unique-thought dictatorship. And btw you know that we are one of the top countries on social gay acceptance.

I don't like Resident Evil 4. I haven't been banned for holding an opinion that opposes the mainstream. You, on the other hand, have been offensively wrong in your arguments and have sought to just stir controversy with your "opinions".

Also, let me remind you, as people who live in a country that has had a real dictatorship, that NeoGAF is a privately-owned business with its own code of conduct for its members. If you are too proud to play by the rules, that's your problem. Live with the consequences.

As for gay acceptance, sure. Which makes it even much more mindblowing that in 2017 a group of self-proclaimed neo-Nazis can interrupt a Pride parade with the official blessing of the local government. Unless prohibiting them from "expressing their opinion" falls under the same category of getting banned on GAF, right?

Victim blaming, seriously?

They weren't able to carry on with their event because this group of assholes decided that they were to be the target of their harassment. As simple as that. There's no other reason but sheer immaturity mixed with a deep-seated hatred for women, who are seen as "the enemy" who is taking "what isn't theirs".

People in that forum are constantly seeking new targets to direct their mob mentality. It could have been a concert by a teen band or a politician who said something they didn't like. It just happened that someone caught a glimpse of this event and decided to rally the band of assholes in the forum. The organizers of the event did absolutely nothing wrong, and trying to insinuate they did is frankly astonishingly abhorrent.

I didn't blame them at all, chill out. I said that I didn't understand because I couldn't read the details, it's not in English.

It's just a shame that the event was cancelled. I get that it's not something the attendees should have to deal with, but the comments here appeared to be on an online forum. Why would the attendees even see it?

The UKs biggest gaming forum is probably something like RLLMUK and it's toxic as hell, but the opinions of people on there don't have a significant influence on real-world events.

In French bimbo means ravissante idiote, no?

You don't need to stream on twitch to enjoy video games

Well party chat helps a lot now if she has great friends but yeah twitch can be a shit show as well as open mic games.
I know my girlfirend only activate the mic with firends and has a genderless nickname

Congrats on your future new baby! I don't think you should feel the need to shield her from gaming, it will be very rewarding to play games with her. But instead perhaps teach her to protect herself when it comes to online or gaming community interaction.

It's pretty disgusting behaviour.

But to play devil's advocate, I'd like to see the reaction if a "Male only" gaming event was organised.

Well the idiot part is not really still implied but yeah basically but please teach me what would've been the good word to use it's also here that I learn that japs was an insult I never knew that I thought it was just slang.

Sigh.

"Why isn't there a white history month?!"

I came into this thread bracing myself for impact, and while I see plenty of good people, there are just enough of these sorts of posts where I find myself just shaking my head.

Man, that event sounds really cool and sorely needed. Next time something like it is announced, let's all chip in five bucks.

It's pretty disgusting behaviour.

Why? What power disadvantages do men experience in the gaming community? Are men the extreme minority? Do men face daily harassment from women because of their gender in a male dominated tech field the way women in the gaming industry do? What need is there for a male only event in the gaming community?

It's pretty disgusting behaviour.

There would obviously be a bunch of Feminists hatching an elaborate plan to disrupt the event and intimidate all those poor, poor men.

True, but at the same time women can not openly partake in this hobby to the same extent as men without significantly increasing their chances of harassment.

Not denying that, but the poster's indication that they won't encourage their daughter to play video games at all is a bit of a weird response to the existence of twitch weirdos.

the idiot part is absolutely implied, it's the stereotypical blonde which IS an idiot.
Don't tell me you do not know any blonde jokes, you'd need to be pretty sheltered to not even have heard that they exist.

how about you don't presume that all women taking jobs at e3 booths are "bimbos". that sounds pretty good.

And another reason why these conventions must exist is that every single other convention has a "women in games" panel. But no convention has a "men in games" panel (actualy one had a "men in comics" panel made only by women it was hilarious but that is another story). When men are in a panel is because they are there as human beings while the woman is there ... as a woman.

And they get interrupted. And they are not heard. And there is that guy on the third row that asks stupid sealioning gamergate stuff.

So it will have way more time to know Gail Simone's work process than "how it is a woman in open source"

bimbo is rather insulting in French.
Basically pretty girl who tan a lot and nothing but air in the head.
There's also a smidge of slut connotation there.

Yeah exactly. I'm pretty sure it means the same in any language that the word exists, which is why I didn't really buy the excuse.

Well the idiot part is not really still implied but yeah basically but please teach me what would've been the good word to use it's also here that I learn that japs was an insult I never knew that I thought it was just slang.
I don't know who exactly you were referring to as bimbos, so I can't say what word you should use. All I got from it was that you were talking about women in context of video games. I'll gladly help you with vocabulary if I can, there are others who can do it better though. Since I'm not a native English speaker myself either.

Sigh.

Trust me I know all about discrimination so cut the condescending rubbish please.

All I'm saying is there'd be uproar if a "Men only" gaming event was organised, that's all.

Nobody is naive enough to come, post bimbo and then play ignorant to it's connotations. First thing that pops up on google.

Bimbo

noun, informal

an attractive but empty-headed young woman, especially one perceived as a willing sex object.

You fucking serious man?
