Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight finalized for Aug. 26 - It's on!

So you say with the possibility of all of this that someone who's never had a professional boxing fight still has a chance?

If it offends you (and many others) so much that people even utter the words "... Conor has a chance", what on earth are you going to go if he actually knocks out Floyd?

This thread is such a beautiful example of why this freak show fight is going to do 4+ million buys.

As a die-hard MMA fan who has not missed a PPV in over a decade, It's blowing my mind that think anything other than freak injury or illegal mob dogshittery could result in a Conor victory. People, let's be reasonable.

Actually, let's not be reasonable. I'll enjoy the circus theatrics and freaking out of the next two months.

I don't disagree with much of any of that.

The thing is quitting on the stool in MMA is virtually not a thing, even less so than boxing.

The biggest factor in that is there are lots of ways to quit inside the octagon that still preserves some pride. Covering up on the ground until a TKO or giving up a sub are ways to basically quit but still go out fighting. Tapping to a sub isn't seen as dishonorable (though there is the more recent trend of people letting themselves get choked out instead of taping) and tapping to strikes on the ground has similar feelings of weakness attached to it by many.

Personally I don't think less of any fighter who gets in there and says "I've had enough". It's their body and life.

Do you guys even watch Floyd's fights? Dude is not a power puncher and has brittle hands. He is incapable of KOing a fighter without sucker punching them a la Ortiz. This will go the distance and Floyd will pick up a decision win, but will probably lose a round or two and maybe be in trouble once, like in the Mosley fight.
Conner is not in the same league as Mosley lol. Go and watch bisping talk about how boxers hit harder than mma fighters on YT. Conner won't know what as hit him. 2 rounds, 3 tops.

It's just not going to happen. It's like wondering if a dog can beat Kasporov in chess.

I mean if some freak accident happened like Floyd had a sneezing fit and at the same time somebody threw in a banana peal onto the canvass, and he slipped perfectly onto Conors fist, if he actually managed to KO him, it would be an incredible thing no doubt. I can't even imagine how people would react.

Canelo is thicker, faster, punches harder, and doubtlessly has better boxing-oriented cardio than Conor. Oh, and he's also got the modest benefit of being one of the best boxers of his generation rather than, like, not a boxer. When Canelo fought Floyd, Canelo barely won an exchange and he lost all 12 rounds.

But Conor's got a couple extra inches of reach. And he predicts deez tings. That should do the trick.

I don't disagree with much of any of that.

The thing is quitting on the stool in MMA is virtually not a thing, even less so than boxing. A lot of it comes from the origins of the sport being firmly rooted in Martial Arts / BJJ but its incredibly rare to see someone quit on the stool in high level of MMA. If Conor quits, even in a boxing match, his marketability in MMA takes a massive hit. A lot of MMA fans will be angry with him for representing MMA in that aspect and his opponents will be able to use it to call him a quitter. I don't see any scenario where Conor, who is a master of marketing, quits and risks that much of a hit to his drawing potential. If he's KO'd / ref stoppage he can play that off much much easier by calling it a different sport.

Only way I think its realistic to expect him to quit is if Conor plans on this being his final fight. But I'm pretty confident he doesn't plan on retiring so I think he'd much rather just go out there and let Floyd finish him off first.
Fighters don't really have to quit on their stools. They have corner men to bail them out. See De La Hoya vs Pacquiao. You can see on Oscar's face he did not want to go another round, but he didn't have to make that decision. If Conor doesn't get (T)KO'd, I can see this happening to him even earlier than it did to Oscar. That's assuming his corner men are competent and don't let Conor go all Apollo Creed in Rocky IV.

This post sums up this fight perfectly.

Spot on, I don't even want to know how the fuck this thread has so many pages.

There's like, nothing to discuss lmao. Selling figths to Floyd haters that hope for a 0.1% chance that he gets clocked must be the easiest job ever.

I'll still be watching tho lol.

I know what my bet is going to be now

This is the thing though:

Floyd has fought a list of boxers who would literally knock Conor as dead as a stone. He beat them all. Pac, Canelo, Cotto, Shane, Oscar, the list goes on and on.

If Conor would have no chance against who Floyd has defeated, why would he have any possible iota of chance against Floyd?

WHY does Conor have a chance?

Anything can happen in boxing. Is it likely Conor will win? No. But let's not pretend Floyd isn't a 40 year old man with 2 years of ring rust. And let's not pretend sparring sessions are a good way to gauge how good of a boxer somebody is. Some of the best fighters have been knocked the fuck out by sub par opponents in sparring.

The fact is, none of us know how Conor is going to respond in the ring.

Yes, we do. Like the first 49. When the lead right is landing at will. Floyd's 40 isn't the average man's 40. Already reports of him beating up sparring partners. Floyd will be fine this fight. Far from prime but it doesn't matter.

People need to stop acting like he's going from basketball to baseball or something. This is more like going from F1 to Indycar. There's a racer who has been quite successful at doing just that this year.

It's not Basketball to Baseball, it's more like the Patriots challenging the All Blacks to a game of rugby. They'd be thrashed. Because while their sports may be similar in some ways, they're completely different in others and they'd be entering that sport at the very highest level against the best in the world.

Even entertaining that Conor has a remote chance is delusional.

Think someone in combat sports for more than a decade has more of a chance than you and me combined.
Conor has zero chance at beating Mayweather in a "Boxing Match" doesn't matter what combat sport he has done for a decade. Mayweather is the greatest defensive fighter and counter puncher in the sport of Boxing. You think some UFC guy is going to step in the boxing ring and beat him when other really great boxers couldn't? You guys think Conor could even beat Canelo Alvarez or triple G in a boxing match? anyone on GAF that knows boxing know this fight is a joke.

Conner would get beat up by the british title level boxers.

You must be pretty emotionally invested in Floyd if you constantly keep calling other people delusional for not giving him a 100 percent guaranteed prediction of winning.

Thinking that an MMA fighter has a 0% chance to win a boxing match vs an all time great means they are emotionally invested in the fighter? Plenty of people have been posting that they hate Floyd, but aren't dumb enough to believe Conor has a chance.

How about this. Anytime you think of this fight, just replace Floyd's name with any other current top Welterweight/super middleweight champion and you'll get the same response.

Keith Thurman 0%
Errol Spence 0%
Danny Garcia 0%
Kell Brook 0%
Shawn Porter 0%
Terrance Crawford 0%

And on and on and on.......

Connor's best chance is to go crazed brawler and hope he catches Floyd with that one in a million shot in the first 30 seconds, before he gases from the effort. Any attempt to try and tactically box with Floyd is foolish and a waste if time.

Just go out there and make it as much a street brawl as possible, be as rough and dirty as the ref will allow and throw everything with murderous intent.

Will it work? Almost certainly not, but either way this fight ends with McGregor getting pummeled to TKO or KO. Better it be after Connor is exhausted from throwing everything he's got rather than him being paralyzed from being out skilled and out classed.

That's a good way to get Ricky Hatton'd.
