I suspect the Amiibo price is a reaction to how much the BOTW Amiibos have been going for by 3rd parties. Hopefully it will drop by release or the UK gets a better price.

The first Splatoon didnt have any voicechat at all, plus you can just use Discord rather than the app, so as rubbish as the app is i see no reason why it would put anyone off buying the entire game lol

That's what I did with Atelier. Found it for 19,99€ at Gamestop and added a price match request at Amazon for it. First time it worked for my, maybe they wanted to price match it anyway, because they did it for almost all other games from the games on Sale at Gamestop.
