Neymar looks Set to Smash World Record Signing for PSG for £197 million ($253m)

Those numbers are crazy - as a Barca fan its sucks to see him goal but i can understand why he doesnt wanna stay in Messis shadow forever. And the amount of money he is earning is crazy.

Damn.

No premier league = 0 fucks given.

No footballer is worth this money. He could Falcao himself at any point.

He won't achieve much with the PSG, that much is certain...
What a dumb move!

quarter of a billion dollars to sign a guy to kick a ball

insanity

I mean give the player the money. Fine, but it's just fees. Jesus

PSG already has a solid team - add a world class player like Neymar and a lot is possible. Hell Barca only beat them last year because they had Neymar.

Neymar going to play out his prime in a sub-par league. Yay modern football.
Well that league just got a lot more interesting.

Saw this on my twitter feed and was very impressed that Neymar was a good Smash Bros player along Counter Strike

He probably feels like Kyrie under LeBron. I understand this. But crazy money. Not even playing Football Manager I'd pay that much for a player.

Curious to see who Barcelona will bring as replacement.

Apparantly Liverpool turned down a 100mill bid on Coutinho

Ligue 1 is just not a big league. This move is 100% because of money.

Good riddance and thanks for the 222m euros.

Won't they have to sell some of their players?

The French league might not be as strong as La Liga or PL, but they got the same no. of teams in the last 16 of CL last year as PL and more finalists than it. Plus PSG was practically eliminated by the referee in the game against Barcelona.

So comparing it to China is ridiculous.

PSG actually makes sense for Neymar because he'd be a huge fish in a tiny pond. Unlike the Premier league there's no danger that he'd be outshone.

Even if, worst case scenario, they don't win the league this year he is still undoubtedly the biggest brand in French football which translates to emerging markets.

Messi has 2 years tops as the best player in the world. Messi should have had a talk with Neymar to sort things out. Neymar is the future of Barcelona and Messi should look out for the club.

The worst of all of this is that no any potential signing by Barcelona doubled in price.

From now on Barca and co. will put at least 500 mil in the contract for theit top players to prevent something like this.

Its sad to say...but 200m for a player like Neymar is actually some thing that can happen in this day and age.

Even so those players will have much less marketing appeal than Neymar. Dude is still quite young but has accomplished already a lot. The Brazil side for example really depends on him....without him they are much worse.

lol nah...they were just too stupid to bring it home after such a ridiculous lead.

Can someone explain this to me because I've never understood it: Barcelona is the one who gets the $253 million, right? Not the player? Barcelona didn't make Neymar a great player, he already was one, why do they get the huge windfall from it?

Why is this a thing? From a quick Google, Neymar's actual salary is only 10 million Euro, so about 5% of his transfer fee.

Is there ever a point where a footballer gets free agency?

Wonder if Barca would try to get Dembele...dude is great but probably too early for Barca.

Nah Messi has still a lot of years left.....and even after then he probably will be able to play as midfelder and take the old Xavi position.

French League is the 4th best league in europe at best and i‘d take Real, Barca, Juve or Bayern over any PL team or PSG.

Just like City or China the only reason they’re somewhat successful is because they spend insane amount of money to be anywhere close to competitive
Seems like a bizarre choice. Where does PSG get all this money from?
Qatar

I'm no expert by any means but I believe it's because they own his rights. So they are essentially selling his contract/rights to another team in the same way American leagues trade players.

When they make a contract with the player, they give him a release clause, only way they let him go while in a contract is if some team is willing to pay as much as the clause says. 253million is insane.

So Barca still after Coutinho? I thought one of the reasons why Coutinho would of considered moving was to play with Neymar.

You can't complain about spending insane money while bigging up the likes of Real and Barca.

It's disappointing that players almost seem scared of coming to the PL, because there's that risk.

Fuck, now I'm really hyped for the football to start again.

He's still likely to get a nice signing on fee. If he runs down his contract, which Barcelona will never allow to happen, he'll be a free agent. But it's not like a team is gonna offer him 253 mill. He's still gonna get a similar salary.. Barcelona will just end up getting nothing.

Spain has release clause on contracts, if a team wants a player and the club, which the player belongs to, is unwilling to negotiate and the player wants out, they can trigger the release clauses. Usually these clause for big players are so high that most teams balk away from it.
