microsoft announced new version of Xbox Wireless Adapter for PC

Couldn't pay me enough to use a DS4 over an XB1 controller.

OK, that's a lie. It would just be a lot of money.

Lol, they're completely interchangeable pads in my experience. Not sure the hyperbole is warranted. Haven't tried the Elite controller though... for that you'd have to pay me $80 (or whatever the deference in price is from the DS4).

Also, how is it there are people ITT in 2017 that still cannot appreciate the advantages of a wireless control input?... You people have cell phones and wi-fi in your homes, right?

I had huge troubles getting the Xbox wireless adapter to work (included with my Oculus Rift last year). Actually took me a couple of hours of Internet searches to get it to work reliably. Probably something odd with it since they're changing it out. Also had to have direct line of (signal) sight between the gamepad and dongle.

The Oculus service actually fucks with the controller sync. If you have any issues, just stop the service whilst you pair the controller and then start it again. It's annoying and they really need to fix it.

I'll buy the new one, with the current one windows 10 often tells me there are errors with the driver and has to apply a fix. Also even though I disabled the sleep function on this particular device it randomly doesn't work and I have to use it on another usb port. It's not very reliable.

For those asking why:

- its smaller in width so it wouldn't conflict with nearby ports if the ports are to the side
- also the smaller size probably makes it cheaper to produce
- sometimes you just don't want to use a cable, or you want to use multiple controllers, or you have a computer far away, or all three

Plus the old one doesn't work worth shit for many people including me. Never stays connected

I think the old one is fine, but I do hate how you have to resyncronize between xbox and pc if you use either or. Xbox One controllers (the original ones) sucks when it comes to its signal and recognition.

Neat. I'd only get this if it improved range over the original adapter, though the og adapter has been flawless for me. Size isn't an issue as I used this and the extension cable that came with the adapter and some 3m command strips and basically internalized it in my pc. It's stuck behind one of the drive bay covers on my case (define r5), so no signal loss. Works great that way and I recommend it to anyone who uses the adapter in a "permanent" installation on their pc.

Yeah the older one is hilariously oversized for what it is. I wish Microsoft would fix the glitch where the controller just turns off as soon as you turn it on though. It's been happening since the Creators update I think. I wouldn't mind being wireless again.

I haven't had this issue; I have the blue forza controller.

I don't think it's a particularly common issue but it is a known problem. I can uninstall and reinstall the drivers and get it working each session but it's not worth the effort for me. It's easier just to use it wired.

Nothing but issues with MS's wireless dongle for my xb1 s controller. Both were bought brand new, at the same time. Even with nothing wireless plugged in the PC, (and modem, tablets, phones, etc all off), the xb1 controller will lose wireless connectivity very easily, the adapter is less than 4 feet away.

Not sure if I try this or not, probably not.

So if you get this and use your controller wireless on your PC, do you still need to power the controller with AA batteries? That is the one thing I hate about these XBOX controllers...

I want this because the original one is soooo big
But it comes with a neat cable so you can put it wherever it doesn't matter if it's big or not.

I plugged mine into the back of my PC and it's laying on the top end of my PC case under my desk. I don't even see or recognize it. It just works. It don't get in any way of any device. I would never pay just one dollar to replace a working device.

Of course, yeah, it's the wireless adapter and has nothing to do with the power supply of your controllers. But I hate that too. For stationary systems you use the controller for, there should be absolutely no need for batteries. That's the reason why I bought 2600mA rechargable batteries. They last long enought for roughly 50 hours of game time. Than I just recharge them over night.

Have u seen the original dongle.....its almost as big as the original xbox one

I fucked 2 usb slots from accidentally knocking it out

I have the original one and it's been less than stellar, consistently loses connection or just will not detect my controller even though I'm sitting right next to it.

Will probably get this but I hope it's better with connectivity.

I am unexpectedly super happy about this, I hate the old monolith ..not enough to go go Bluetooth and switch to a DS4, but close.

Stick it in the back of the PC --> problem solved.
Yeah and when it loses connection and has multiple issues that require it to be disconnected / reconnected good luck going behind your pc each and every time it happens.

I really hope the new one will have better drivers.

The Xbox 360 receiver has always been garbage. I wonder if this one is any better.

There are probably more fake and crappy xbox 360 receivers than official ones out in the wild. All the fake ones work so horribly, but I've had nothing but great experiences with the real ones. Does yours say xbox on it?

I can understand if you're using it in a laptop knocking it out, but at a desktop view, don't you just leave it in the back of the machine? That's where mine is and I've never had any issues.

I have to say, Microsoft's half assed attempts at PC gaming h/w is the main reason why I still prefer generally inferior F710 to any of the Xbox controllers.

If you buy a relatively recent XBO pad and your PC has blutooth, that also works. But it is mystifying how big the XBO adapter is. I assume it must be because it's using 2.4 Ghz instead of BT? I just don't know.

no..because sometimes the tower gets knocked (its a big fucker on the ground)
having it at the rear was also a pain in the ass when MS fucked up the drivers and i had to resync the controls every use so it went in the front usb ports

I don't think the size has something to do with the wavelength since every bluetooth device no matter how big use wavelengths from 2,4 to 2,48 GHz.

It might have something to do that you should have half the wavelength as antenna. So at 2,4Ghz with a wavelength of 12.5 cm that would be 6,25 cm which is less the length of the XOne adapter with 7.5 cm. Hence, there is room for improvement there.

Maybe this will fix that problem where I have to disconnect and reconnect the adapter for it to detect the xbox one controller after I reboot my computer.

I'm just using Bluetooth to connect my Xbone Controller to PC but it's definitely neat in case you got more than one.

Funny enough, my old Logitech Rumbepad 2 died and I moved onto the F710, which then gave me connection issues. Logitech replaced the controller and it still gave issues where connection would randomly drop for seconds at a time. Bought the XB1 receiver and when I saw how big it was my first thought was "no way this loses connection!"

Yeah, I agree that old one is really bulky and I'm glad they made it normal sized.

Old one looked like this inside:

I wonder how different the new one is.

It is WiFi

You got me wondering, why the hell do you have this in a vice grip!?

It's weird that we don't get comparison shots ANYWHERE.

I wonder how much smaller it actually is.
Here what i found.

The second photo is for a Bluetooth,i have the same mouse.

Definitely in for one. I use my X1 controller in the living room via steamlink, but keep my dongle connected to the PC in my bedroom, not my steamlink. Any improvement is worth it.

Keep your airwaves clear people! Wire everything!

Wow that's small.

Hopefully it fixes the annoying issue where it won't wake up if it goes into sleep/low power mode. I had to disable power saving for the USB dongle so I can connect.
