What is the deal with awful people online and anime avatars?

I'm sure there's plenty of well adjusted anime fans out there, but half the reason of why I just stopped watching that shit altogether was because it was wrecking my psyche. It was just unhealthy for me to watch it, it was starting to fill my head with some fucked up shit that I really didn't want to be thinking.

That, and 99% of the medium is filled with garbage. Other forms of media are pretty dire as well, but I've never seen a different medium that's so filled with gross shit and unsavory philosophies behind them. And they're really boring too

Kinda curious what you were watching now.

I wonder if this person has watched any popular anime. The most watched stuff on TV is not what you guys like to fawn over on message boards. Basically, you got what you asked for.

From briefly skimming this thread something that I haven't seen mentioned is the alt-right's general infatuation with Japan and Japanese culture.
Japan appeals to them for many reasons: it's a country with deeply rooted misogyny where women have very particular expectations placed on them, it's a very homogenous country rife with racism that at times is almost flaunted (discrimination against Koreans and Chinese). Japan doesn't exactly accommodate immigrants like much of Europe does.
Overall Japan is a counrry that the alt-right wants the US/Europe to aspire to.

There absolutely is an overlap, there are absolutely horrible people into all kinds of things, but you don't really see nazis overlapping too much with... I don't know, miniature train enthusiasts, lol. And it's very noticeable considering anime is not mainstream entertainnent in English speaking countries.

Anyway yeah, I feel bad for anime fans because these people are not a good look for the fandom (and anime by itself doesn't need a lot of help to look bad to be honest).

Except here in Japan there are hate speech laws (getting more attention lately in fact), gun control, and recently it's become much easier to get a visa / citizenship. But of course pedo cartoons don't teach people that.

Also has Shinzo Abe as Prime Minister. Fuck that cocksucker.

I don't think it has anything to do with anime really but more to do with the demographic of pasty white folk with persecution complexes and poor social adjustment skills that also have nerdy interests.

Internet echo chambers combined with probably a few personality disorders along with a convenient narrative that explains their failures as a consequence of a system designed to oppress them helps turn them into what they are maybe.

I'll admit that I used to browse /r9k/ a lot in college (around 09/10) and I noticed it made me a much more bitter person easily paralyzed into inaction and quick to blame others for my shortcomings, so I stopped going there. The effect of the hivemind is very real.

Never trust a Gundam fan that actually likes Zeon. Which is actually ironic because /m/ is one of the few internet boards that I know of where the majority of it's posters acknowledge that Zeon is complete trash because they're evil Nazis taken to a whole new level.

American cartoons generally don't include stuff like this (NSFL warning) or that or this, too. And that's just off the top of my head and doesn't include things like "fanservice" moments in otherwise tame shows because it's the norm, and when I say "fanservice" note that I'm usually talking about very visibly and obviously underaged girls.

That's not to say that American stuff is free of this shit, but this stuff is ubiquitous in the anime industry. It's on a completely different scale. To the point where it's extremely difficult to avoid it if you like to watch a lot of different genres.
Is that supposed to be jack the ripper the serial killer who murder prostitutes and berserk.

Fucking fate franchise

As a Twitter addct I can confirm that smug anime girl avatar = red flag

It is what it is 🤷*♂️

American fans of anything take things to the extreme. Take the pepe meme for example,a fairly innocous meme to begin with that eventually became the symbol of the alt-right.

Same thing with games. I see a lot of Altie pricks on Twitter and YouTube with gaming related handles and avatars. The whole GamerGate shitshow should have been a wake up call on how utterly vile many gamers are.

You only need to spend ten seconds in a pregame lobby with voicechat to figure that out.

It's also a country that's dying because of its daft anti-immigration policy and ultra low birth rates. Japan represents a warning to what would happen in Western countries if they embraced the policies the Alties/Nazis advocate.

I deliberately avoid online gaming these days because of that shit. I get called a "fag" and "cuck" enough already on YouTube as it is.

Walk blessed, for you have not undergone School Day's demented wiles, and are best left that way. *fades into shadows*
Or been like me and... probably... many others, and found out how it went down at the end from online friends going "what the FUCK!?"
