Swim into the cannons and then get Robotnik to move into them. Basically stay on the same kind of height as the cannon so he goes right into it.

Wow at people saying that Mania is better than the rest of the classic games. That's high praise considering the dedication of the fan base to that era of Sonic.
Can't wait to give it a go, myself. I have the Steam version pre-ordered and thanks to Amazon points I'm only paying $8 for it.

Yay all chaos emeralds! Kinda cheated though by just replaying the same level that had a special ring right at the start to get them all.
That's what I'm doing. I usually do both acts of Green Hill Zone + the first act of Chemical Plant Zone and retry until I'm getting all of them. Missing only three now.
7 is fun but you can fall off easily in that. 6 can be as hard as 5 if you're not prepared.
Edit: oh I see you got them all anyway never mind haha.

Playing this with my childhood friend yesterday was something you can't put a price on, it was just like when we were playing Sonic 2-3 back then when we were at kindergarden. (Except we were playing better, lol.)

Switching places with Robotnik's Sonic 3 boss is as clever as what they did with the Chemical Plant Act II Boss, wow! For the other Act my friend said that it would be cool to have the same boss as in S3, and I said all the bosses so far were faily new, and then BOOM, same boss as in S3 at the end of the Zone, right in my teeth, hahaha!
I'm not sure there are any shortcuts in that level. At mach 3 I was just following the track, trying to take the shortest route I could while picking up more rings.

Is there no way to switch characters once you start a save? I started one with Sonic and Tails last night and Tails is just getting on my nerves. Does he do anything as the CPU to help you out?

Maxing out at mach 3 just gets you more bonus points
You need to avoid ramps and jumping unless they're to give you short cuts. The 5th emerald stage has the section with a wall of spikes and ramps that fly you into the air near the start correct? Stay staight and jump the ramps/spikes you'll save a lot of time.

He'll get free hits on bosses, sometimes break you out of traps, and you can use him to fly up.

The chaos emerald stages are fucking awful. Like seriously what the hell were they thinking with these tight conditions around these sluggish controls? I can never tell how close I am either because I can't keep my eyes off Sonic or I lose even more time.
Are you sure they're not talking about Sonic Forces?
But I can see the type of gamer they are, high quality graphics and AAA production values. Not everyone gels with 2D.

It's kind of wonky though. You can only do it if you're both standing in the same spot and if you don't have any of the elemental shields.

Even avoiding ramps and jump I've been 40 secs running behind without never catching the UFO. If it gets enough distance at match 1 and 2 you're done

Aside from some minor frame drops in special stages, identically. Full 60fps at all other times and no real hitches. It's a fantastic port; Tantalus locked, loaded, and nailed it.
There's some slight delays with OS features but there's a patch in the works to address them.

He can airlift you to platforms or secrets out of jump reach. He will add extra hits on bosses or attack enemies.
Just start a new save file to play as the other characters. You have like a dozen slots.

though, amazing.Can someone explain the special stage coins to me? Does it only present you with a pool of unfinished stages, where finished = gold coin? Does silver remove it from the pool until you've cleared them all? When you clear them all with Gold does it just go back to randomization, and what do the rewards become?
It's definitely a cool system that encourages replays but it's really not explained well at all (same with secret unlocks, took me forever to figure out they only work in "no save" mode)

First Sonic game I've paid attention to since 3, other than Generations. Only had time to play for about half an hour but everything points to it being a winner, and I left with a big smile on my face. Looks stunning and feels great to play.
No idea why they set the default visuals to be blurry over crisp or CRT though. Just looked bad when I launched the game and instantly looked for the visual settings. Glad it could be changed.
