Marc Laidlaw reveals Half-Life 2 Episode 3's story synopsis

Haha... awww...

G-Man is simply a being of another universe. The real question is, who is he working for and what are the real motives for his interventions

I think he's a higher being that is working with tons of other species to bring down the Combine, and doesn't care what damage he does to stop them

Mods, Please put a sticky on this thread, in order to let the be known how Half Life ended, and also to respect Marc Laidlaw's Bravery to give a closure to this franchise.

Thanks Marc, for ending this, you truly are a free-man now.

That's one way to look, but there are obvious holes in that theory considering he did lead the Combine to Earth, which holds the key to time travel and local teleportation.

But a likely theory, given all of his actions are clouded.

Well.. Damn, now I'm sad. I guess its like I had held out hope all these years, but now I just saw the body and know its really dead. Closure but sadness

At this point all I really, really want is an explaination. I want to understand what went on at Valve post-Ep.2 that made one of gaming's most valuable and acclaimed franchises not worth continuing.

Accountant: "Hey Gabe, look at this TF2 hat money."
Gabe: "Cancel Half-Life!"

I doubt it went like that.

Of course it's not as simple as that, the transition from game-maker to service provider took many years. No doubt they were working on Half-Life for a long time after Episode 2, but over time Half-Life and game development in general became too much hard work compared to the easy money of Steam and it's micro-transactions, so many projects just fizzled out. At this point there are not enough people at Valve who know how to make HL3 nor is there any desire to commit to the massive workload that such a project would require. Now they dabble in experimental hardware while raking in the cash from Steam. Their business doesn't need to make video games anymore.

Might have been the best place to lead them to expose a weakness? I don't think Marc nor anyone at Valve had it fully fleshed out either. But I think that's the fun of G-Man!

Yeah, it's hard to imagine that all these creative minds just rather worked on lootboxes and stream trading cards.

This is a trick. We now truly believe the franchise is dead so they will announce Half Life 3 next week.

It's written in the stars.

Yea, G-Man was always the most fun character, simply because of the wide spanning implications of his constant time stopping interventions and actions.

Too bad this is all we get

So is it assumed that he was legally allowed to post this info online? Like are there any possible repercussions from him doing this?

the guys at valve were 99% complete in development of HL3 until they heard this news that the entire story had been leaked. Devastated. Back to the drawing board...

I dont think so. He doesnt work for Valve anymore and he wrote the stuff to begin with so I guess it's okay, I'm not a laweeyyer.

Honestly, I don't think it's anything as sinister as Gabe pulling the plug on the project. It's more than likely that the original team felt burned out working on EP3 and move on to different projects. Games take a long ass time to make and once they were ready to return to Half Life they might have felt compelled to raise the bar (lol) and create something innovative.

Artists are their own harshest critics and they probably never found something that stuck. Had VR taken off like everyone wished it did we'd probably see a full length Half Life game in VR. Who knows.

My uncle works at Valve... you have no idea how close you've come with that theory... thanks Marc!

This is the setup to Half-Life 3 right? Get the episode that never was out of the way now so when they announce 3 it will all make sense?

Fuck me...Come on Valve. Please

Valve should just sell the goddamn franchise to someone who gives a shit enough and has the balls enough to put a game out there.

For anyone who no longer remembers this because it was so damn long ago:

Oh wow. I only just realized that the start of Ep2 is totally foreshadowing the ending of Ep3. Am I dumb for only just realising this?

When I plucked her from Black Mesa, I acted in the face of objections, that she was a mere child and of no practical use to anyone. I have learned to ignore such naysayers when... quelling them was out of the question. Still, I am not one to squander my investments and I remain confident she was worth far more than the initial appraisal. That's why I must now extract from you, some small repayment for your own survival.
His last statement was all about his investment in Alyx. And he was to take "repayment" for Gordon's survival.
