... so, here's a hot take for you.

I dont think Venom is in the story mode at all.

"But but Symbiote monster and symbiote in the Makai stage"

Yup... thats how fucking dumb it will turn out to be. You watch.

That honestly wouldn't surprise me.

This game is going to be so insanely difficult and have such a huge learning curve that baddies will reminisce about how easy MvC3 was.

I think it will be easier to pick up and play than Marvel 3 was. One less character to know, far fewer possible team combinations (3,175,200 vs 5,220), a very easy and fluid tag mechanic. But the upper ceiling on the madness...it's impossible to guess.

I noticed barely anyone in that "tournament" today even knew about the counter tag system (whats the official name?) for example.

stop scaring the children away Kars
I'm protecting them in their naivete.

Keep in mind how Marvel 3 was one month after release. Teleport mixups and beams everywhere. Then Akuma and Tatsu assist. People were so mad. Forums were nothing but complaints. The rage is going to be so much more here because the battles will be MUCH more confusing for low-level players.

The deciding difference, I think, is this:
In MvC3, anyone at any level could come to understand when to call an assist. Call an assist and superjump or dash in, and in 99% of low to mid level play you are perfectly fine.

When do you tag, though? For the first month, people are going to tag all the time at random spots and think it's safe, and they won't get punished. But when people come to refine their strategies, anyone who hasn't grasped the mechanic will be completely left behind. Plus, the "combo breaker" mechanic is going to confuse the hell out of lowbies.

It took months for people to use V-Reversal in SFV. Defensive stuff always develops later than offensive stuff. Who wants to go into the game and figure out how to break combos on day 1? Everyone wants to see the cool shit their character can do.

I think it may be easier for casual fighting game fans to comprehend. Don't forget, no assists either. That's pretty huge. In general it seems like 2 low level players could play and enjoy this more like a standard fighting game.

But yeah, the ceiling is going to be absurd most likely. The line between the good and the bad could end up being the the strongest in the series.

Assists and TAC are way easier to grasp for casuals than tags.

I think basic tag usage is easier to understand. The simplest thing is hyper, tag, do stuff. Either another hyper or a mixup. I had no idea what to do with assists when I started Marvel 3. It took me forever to get used to calling an assist while attacking with normals on point.

LOL @ baddies.

I don't think people are going to reminisce about how easy Marvel 3 was (maybe that it was easy to come back on people and kill character in a combo). Marvel Infinite is going to be a hard and punishing game though, in its own right.

LMAO lowbies? Man now you are just making stuff up!

It looks like any hitgrab changes your position to midscreen. It looks awkward as hell.

Man these are words! :-P

Marvel 3 could be played by any scrub at an intermediate level. It was, compared to its predecessor, an easy game. I mean just look at OMGItsAndre. Dude was trash at the game for like the first 5 years and he made it out of pools regularly. He still drops fucking sword loops.

Instant Tags are easier to understand.
They're equally easy to understand, but you don't win games by understanding.

Was Zero listed as Oblivion in the .zip files? I guess if "Oblivion" isn't listed Infected Spider-man wouldn't be either.

Unless Infected Spider-man has different moves or something, which I doubt.

Edit: There's no Oblivion in the .zip files

Though I suppose that's still Zero and isn't as changed as Spider-man is....I don't know.

Zero was...Zero in the zip leak

Well, yeah but since there's a restrained Thanos for instance I wondered if Oblivion was listed at all in the .zip, but its not. Then again, I don't think being mind controlled and turned into Oblivion changed his model at all, so wouldn't make sense for him to be listed twice

I wonder if the Yellow and Blue Spider-man costume is a placeholder for another color (Symbiote?)

or based on....Prodigy? Only thing I could think of though that would look super goofy

EDIT
Actually, it could be

or colors are just random this time around cause Marvel dont give 2 fucks about the game

:3

I mean.....they put in the Negative Zone....and every color other than Nova (and Gamora?) so far has an identifiable origin

I think the major ones will be alternate costumes as DLC (Symbiote, Noir, 2099, Scarlet Spider, the other Scarlet Spider, Miles, Iron Spider)

...they could totally make a ton of money just on Spider-man costumes couldn't they?

sure (and thats a old pic, he has more these days). Doesnt hold a candle to Tony tho

who also has more these days :p

I think Spider-man has more if you take into account all his alternate universe versions which have different looks. I mean for example 2099 has 3 costumes himself if you count his brainwashed Exiles Hydra costume.

Yeah, I've seen Spider-man Unlimited

So....Iron Man and Spider-man's (then Venom's after he's DLC...
and then I guess they should add a Spider-woman) DLC costume sales could probably make 2m by themselves? :P

The effects in this game are really good. Was just looking at some Iron Man footage and really started noticing the effects he has on his attacks. Many things in this game's looks department are rather debatable on whether they look better than UMvC3, but it's nice being able to say something finally just looks straight up better, and I think many characters attack effects do.

His Lvl 3 beam looks fantastic.

im curious to see what modders do with the PC version, because I've been watching a lot of Ultimate footage lately to pass the time, and I never got why people said that technically Infinite characters looked better (or were supposed to at least) because they have higher polis and more detail, and I never saw that, but rewatching ultimate and yeah, some of those characters are VERY low detail indeed. Hulk looks like hes made of clay for example compared to the Infinite Hulk who has much more detail on his model. That game's pseudo cell shader, whatever it was, really made it pop and kept a lot of ugliness hidden, because overall, it STILL looks better than Infinite, even with the lower detail.

UMvC3 still looks incredible for its age. MT Framework is one of the goat engines. The colors pop, everything looks so clean, the animations are fluid, it's just a joy to watch and play (
if you're not a scrub like me
). Was watching the Pasadena Regionals (really dope tourney) and it was great to see so many players making all the weird teams work.

I don't like the look of Infinite nearly as much and I'm disappointed in the roster but I still want this game to succeed. Hopefully the gameplay can make up for it.

Dante effects though...

Yeah, some of the particle effects they've added in recent builds look pretty good, tbh. Jedah's in particular are really neat.

Except Dante's fire and ice effects. They somehow look less fluid (in the case of fire) and like plastic (in the case of ice).

Although I don't agree that Hulk looks any better than 3. He looks so... gross in Infinite. As does Haggar.

Most of the skin looks bad in this game, which makes those characters with more skin like Hulk and Haggar look crummy and characters like Dante look sickly. They could've stylized it a bit more to be consistent with characters like, say, X, who don't have those issues because there's not much more definition to give them, but they didn't. Might be due to outsourcing, or just incompetence, or intent.

Nemesis has the best skin... some how. But yea, there's still some janky animations and effects that I really hope get tuned up day 1 or whatever.
