Atlantic Hurricane season 2017 |OT|

Latest models have tracks clustered on South Florida and then a track up along or just off the eastern coast. Second landfall in SC possible too and it could still be a major hurricane then.

Notice that most models have it avoiding Cuba. And with waters off the south coast of Florida even warmer than where Irma currently is, there is potential for further strengthening right before landfall.

Yeah I use this site but where is the Euro forecast model here? I need the euro forecast for the Caribbean but when I press ECMWF under the 'global' tab I get the USA with where I am not shown and when I got to 'Hurricane' tab the euro isn't there.

My idiot friends planned to go surfing(northwest Puerto Rico) on Wednesday morning. They heard it just became a Cat 5 so they are moving it for Thursday morning.

RIP all of them.

THANK YOU!

People are starting to get very worried here. A guy was due to go to the US to finish a deal this afternoon but he has cancelled because he's not leaving his wife to face a Cat 5 alone. This bloody storm is already costing us money and it's not even here. We're all asking each other how hurricane proof our houses are and where we should hunker down - some strata corps here aren't even putting up shutters. Not sure if mine will - god damn the nerves are settling in now.

How safe am I living here, if it follows this track?

When does the euro update? Every twelve hours but on what hour? Because the GFS and others all have us getting utterly wrecked right now and I need some good news, which I believe the euro will deliver.

The model is initialised at 0000 UTC and 1200 UTC, i.e., about 1:20 hours ago for the 1200 UTC run. As running the model takes a while, expect a first +24h forecast at around 1400ish UTC (in about 40 minutes), the forecasts further into the future will follow afterwards.

Plan to go to NOLA to stay with my dad is looking much more likely. Going to leave on Friday for now from Orlando.

My girl is in Pompano Beach and she doesn't want to evac. I think because she rode out Matthew she has this false sense of security. I'm left the area this weekend for work, but she hasn't committed to evacuating.

Other question, whats the best place to like board pets for something like this in Broward County? Pet shelter?

I wouldn't leave mine alone, that's just me. I'll ride it out with them.

With the models continually shifting between east and west Florida getting hit, it's really messing with me. Hoping we don't get a direct hit here on the west coast.

There is a pet-friendly shelter at a middle school in Tamarac. The Broward County Emergency Management Site will provide you with the specifics. Also, look into boarding in an inland animal hospital or vet clinic.

This is just me being a crazy pet owner, but I would never leave my pets alone at a random hurricane shelter. If you absolutely want to leave them do it with place you trust and have worked with before.

We even just bought our dogs life vests in the unfortunate situation we're flooded out and need to evac.

Well this was before we knew the storm was definitely hitting Florida. The models when I left had it curving North before it got here. I feel you though, but nothing I can do about it now than help get her to evac.

Yeah I'm toying with the idea of getting a pet friendly Airbnb or something in GA and her heading that way.

Thanks. I'll look this up.

My buddy is from the DR so I'm watching it close (he's here in the states but his family is still there). He actually said he's not too terribly worried "We've seen a ton of them so we'll be ready." I think I'm more worried than he is!

Still gotta wait for something a little more conclusive. I can't exactly leave the state, but I can pick which side of the state to be on when it hits. I'm in Tampa Bay, got family in Orlando. I'll start stocking up today and leave if I have to before the weekend, I just want a better idea of where.

Bruh, you should have started stocking up yesterday at least. There were tons of people out because of the holiday and water and canned goods were just flying off the shelf where I went (in Tampa).

If it's a Cat 5 or a strong 4 when it hits South Florida, I'd advise that you evacuate.

Just because you went through over before doesn't mean it'll be the exact same experience.

Pretty much all of Pompano Beach is solid 1 story homes that have been surviving storms since the 60s. I'll be staying here as always. My folks are out of town so I'm gonna be riding it out with their French bulldog who throws up whenever he's nervous.... Would never leave a dog at a shelter, hurricanes fuck dogs up, do whatever you can to make it less traumatizing. My uncles dog wouldn't go down hallways after Andrew for example, you'd have to let her outside the front or back and in through a side door if she wanted to be at one end of the house.

I just assumed everything was closed. My bad. Well, I'm off this week so I have time to wander and find something eventually. I'll be out within the hour.

Hers is a one story as well, with storm windows. Maybe staying put isn't such a bad idea on her part. There's a dog and cat involved and our dog is not a small one either.

Man this hurricane really took a turn for the worst.

East Hollywood gonna East Hollywood and be completely underwater. I'd head to a friends north or west if you can.

You will need to evacuate flat out. If you live near the beach, get the fuck out of there.

Evacuate. Evacuate. Evacuate.

Please obey the Broward County Emergency Management Office order when it is issued.

Yeah this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to Hurricanes.. but it's a bit upsetting. I really don't want any of my shit to be damaged. Being in apartment complex isn't quite as bad I suppose, since the last time there was generators too. But if necessary, my girlfriend and I will head to mum's place in Boca Raton.

Hearing from friends and family here in Tampa that Sams club and Walmart are out of water around the Pinellas area, also Home Depot and Lowes are out of plywood. Lines at the pump with people filling 5 gallon gas jugs on top of their gas tanks.

Looks like hysteria has set in.

Don't get me wrong, people need to be prepared but we are at least 5 days out and this is the current state of affairs.

In an extremely populous state people should wait until 3 days out to pick up supplies that won't exist? A state of emergency was declared, and all the models have this thing coming to FL. 60+ people are dead from Harvey as it is.

It is literally insane. Is it some kind of macho bs? Do they need some sort of excuse to back out? snitch to their families or something
Surfing culture is like this. The bigger the waves, the crazier the risks they take. Especially during the low season (summer). A hurricane is reason for joy for them. A Cat 5 is orgasm-inducing.

Trying to decide whether or not to cancel a trip to Destin this weekend. Guess we'll know more soon.

I literally just picked up my new car from Hollywood Sunday. Good luck everyone.

Basically..

I am from Puerto Rico and this happens every hurricane season and every single freaking storm. Surfers will go out to the water and hit the waves during the storm. What they don't realize is that they are not only putting their lives at risk, but they are also putting emergency response personnel lives at risk by doing that.
