But the unimpressive and unremarkable arrangements do outweigh the noteworthy or even decent ones - for a recent example to compare against, WoFF and pretty much every XIV cover of existing FF themes has been more successful at reinterpreting existing music. The XIII and XIV arrangements here aren't particularly bad, but struggle to even stay on par with the originals, let alone provide an interesting and worthwhile new take on them.

For all the failings of the soundtrack, it does have the only good arrangement of Clash on the Big Bridge to ever exist.
slightly hyperbolic, but square's composers seem to consistently forget that it's a prog rock piece at heart and all their absurd arrangements of it like in XV do no justice to such a great track
All her weapon names are the same as Rinoa's nodding to the fact that some say she's a Rinks from a bad future. Makes ff8 more interesting in that it is you dealing with the psycho girlfriend from the future.

In any case, while I do like the various styles the track has been adapted into (particularly XIII-2/Mobius' one), I can agree that XV's missed the mark. Okabe may not have been a bad choice to arrange it (he can do a lot more than just melancholy), but that dour, dramatic style in ended up in was a poor fit. But that may have just been to do with the direction they chose for XV's Gilgamesh in general, as well...

Love Ultimecia, easily my favorite villain plus her design is so good, honestly can't understand why anyone would want Edea. I do hope for a Rinoa alt, even if they debunked the fan theory they still have Ultimecia equip Rinoa's weapon's in the PsP games.
For what it's worth, Sabin is at least already in Opera Omnia, and it seems very unlikely that a character that didn't make it to the PSP games or Opera Omnia wouldn't make it, so maybe OO can serve as the "extended shortlist" of qualifying characters (which would mean currently the only possibility of a 3rd XI character would be Lion, which would be fine).
As FFXI characters go, she pretty low rung, probably lower than Lisette anyway. Shadow Lord and Eald'narche are probably the two most likely villains to appear from FFXI, but even those two are not exactly likely. Shantotto gets a bit of overexposure because of fan popularity and Prishe is seen as the main character of the most important storyline, but anything else isn't really likely I think. FFXI, being a collection of fairly separate storylines, has a lot of protags and villains, but it'll get less attention than FFVII, for example.
Everything in FF gets less attention than VII, I've accepted that a long time ago -at most I hope for XI's representation to be on par with the non-VII single-player games, since it has the cast and story to support that much and more.
I just find that Shadow Lord is too big to qualify (and there's essentially no combat animation or data specific to
Raogrimm
's more regular size, and for that might as well use Zeid (
who gets to be a final boss antagonist in a story too, so between him and Shantotto two half-villains would count as a full one
)).
Eald'narshe to me is relatively dull - his influence is visible all over the core game's landscape, but in terms of looks, combat abilities and personality he's nothing special - the way I see it he's from a time where the XI devs were still getting used to telling a story in a much less linear medium than usual.
Chains of Promathia is a highly respected story in the game, but the closest to a consistent antagonist across the whole thing, Nag'molada, doesn't actuall get to fight directly in there.
Treasures of Aht Urghan's events are mostly side-effects of the conflict between Odin and Alexander, and neither of those is going to be a character, although IIRC they're already summons in Dissidia. The game sees Razfahd as the more human antagonist of that story, but again, he's someone who doesn't even fight.
Lilith, however, is a consistent and fleshed-out presence in Wings of the Godess (in part thank through what we learn through a closely-related character), and fights as herself by the end of her story, so between the two forms from that fight, and maybe even a skill or two from the aforementioned related character, she'd have a Dissidia-worthy arsenal to contribute. Also, she was around by what's currently half of the game's lifespan, so she's quite well-established by now, compared to a more recent arrival like the Seekers of Adoulin boss.
If they don't bother, I hope at least they give
Cloud of Darkness
a XI alternate skin...
EDIT: I've liked her since the 1.0 days, but Y'shtola is kind of lame within FFXIV overall. That game is all over the place writing-wise since the crummy ARR plot and it's clear the Scions as a whole suffer a lot from that. Maybe they can put in Estinien instead of Kain this time though. Or just put in Gaius and pretend the game didn't completely waste him.

Man, watching that footage made me lament that this isn't primarily a 1v1 game like old Dissidias. It would remove the need for the UI mess as well. Without it the game looks beautiful.
Great character, but that remix of The Extreme is cringeworthy.
I hope they'll bother to fix those billboards clipping with the terrain, I find them very distracting.
I'm still salty from how broken she was in 012, but at least it seems like she doesn't have her bullshit shield in this game. Also I don't mind this remix, it sounds good.
I wonder what changes she will end up having. Because if people were irked by long range zoning in stuff like Injustice, hoo boy, Ulti would spend entire matches at max range. The fun starts in a mirror match too.
YESSSSS ONE OF THE QUEENS IS BACK! While I would prefer new characters I've been expecting recurring characters so I'm happy she is released. Her design looks so good. Ultimecia always gives me Parasite Eve/Eve vibes but then again a lot of VIII's music and designs give me that feeling.

I actually don't hate the remix either but The Extreme is one of the best songs in the game and it is a little boring for a song that's such a classic. I want to hear the Legendary Beast remix.
Anyway though, it is nice to see Ultimecia back in form here. With all this talk about "Shooter-Type" characters, it would only make sense to see her make a return since that was pretty much her playstyle as a whole. Definitely will be fun to see if she may also have "Time Based" attacks on her as well and how that would be implimented in a 3v3.
I assume after Golbez and CoD everyone else like Yuna, Gilgamesh, Laguna etc. will be part of the DLC/Season Pass stuff. (Except Nocto if the Amazon listing stays true.)
