Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

Watching a few streams, the storytelling is a lot meatier this time around. Cutscenes are beefy. Characters have personality. Everything looks sharp. Gameplay is solid. Very nice.

don't forget how FUCKING INSANE the environments look

i mean holy shit

Titan looks incredible. No spoilers but some of the interior environments are just dripping with atmosphere.

What made the Dreadnought patrol special? I don't remember anything particularly riveting about it.

Dreadnaught was pretty awesome with all the little nooks and crannies + secrets everywhere. It was a tiny patrol in comparison to the others but they packed it full of some neat things.

My D2 from Best Buy still hasn't shipped. I'm about to just preorder the digital version and return the physical one whenever it shows up.

was gonna skip this round, at least for a few months to work on my backlog.. but.. i fucking caved and pre-ordered.. i have no willpower

They would have had to actively design a shit story in D2 to make it worse than D1's story. I'm not too hyped about the story given those facts, but I'm open.

I was going to wait for the PC release, and ended up buying it on PS4 anyway, and after the first 3/4 missions, I have absolutely no regrets. Unless the game absolutely goes to shit from here on, it's fucking amazing.

I don't remember the music being this good in the first one (even though it probably was), even the first few missions, I already notice much more variety compared to D1.

I'm surprised. First impressions are really, really good.

So the only advantage to carrying a guardian over is retaining their appearance settings?

I wanted to make a new guardian and see what the character creator has to offer this time around but I don't want to miss out on any rewards from the first game, but if it's tied to the account I don't know if there's any reason not to create a new guardian in my case.

Someone on Reddit said the character creator is exactly the same.

Which is, of course, a massive disappointment.

I never got the option to edit my character? :\\

You can't edit transferred characters.

If true it's mindblowingly absurd that they wouldnt offer more choices and expand upon it with all the negativity Bungie got about the first one. I just assumed they would redo it and give us more. Bummer.

Very good to hear positive impressions! Almost 10 hours left to try to remain spoiler free.

I think this will be GOAT in terms of sales this year, think about it, we are getting insane production values + multiplayer replayability + PC as an additional SKU. PC Beta performance is also top notch.

Got my collectors edition, opened it up to find the game disc and codes are missing from the case. Bought it online so now I gotta deal with getting that sorted somehow. There was me thinking I'd be able to play early :(

I'll be on tonight on Xbox, Gamertag is The Somnia if anyone wants to add me. Only plan on playing it on console till Oct 24th though :)

90% of Destiny 2 looks and sounds amazing but I have a short of mind-boggling decisions that make no sense.

- Still no optional matchmaking for story missions. (Which makes me worried that the eventual arena modes like Prison of Elders/Challenge of the Elders will still not have matchmaking either.)
- Guided Games doesn't work with heroic difficulty.
- Still only a single emote slot. Three years of Destiny 1 where this was a big complaint. They release a sequel and still don't let you simply equip a different emote to each d-pad button.
- Same character creator.

Do you still get the surprise and whatnot if you start over with a new character? Is the first thing the game prompts you to do is to import or create a new character?

I'm pretty sure that's account based. The emblems are 100% account based so I think the in-game surprise is too.

Well I've had £100 in MS credit sat in my account for about 4 months and haven't used it so what the hell, took the plunge.

This is my first time I haver ever made a digital purchase for a launch day game, the most I have ever spent before on a title is about £25 in the sales.

NINETY FUCKING POUNDS...

I cant help but feel a tad ripped off with this digital thing...

Please provide context for spoilers.

When posting spoiler tagged text, please provide some context around it so folks who do have the game know whether they should click or not. You might be further ahead, you might be talking about the first mission, you might be posting about an endgame element someone else got to. We have no idea.

Good spoiler:

This is from the end of mission two:
wow Cayde totally said funny things

Bad spoiler:

wow I didn't think they'd actually send us inside the Traveler at the end of the campaign and have Luke explain all the secretz there

Nice that we're keeping this spoiler free. Guess it makes sense with a OT on a game this big.

Have they just straight up taken all the D1 stuff offline from bungie.net? I'm trying to go back and see my stats and stuff, and am either blind or it's gone.

I think I am going to stay up late tonight to play it. Might take a nap after work in preparation.
Hopefully the servers hold up tonight.

Can anyone quickly describe the fundamental differences between D2 and let's say Titanfall 2? Not sure if I NEED another sci-fi co-op shooter. A little tempted, but D1 didn't exactly light my world on fire, but this hype's got me itchy.

Should be fun tonight.

I look forward to good music, a decent Cabernet, shooting thing that move, and co-op with a friend or two.

Very much looking forward to the music as well, will be playing with headset to get that full experience.

Actually... I wonder if Ps4 Gold headsets have a new profile for D2, there was one for the first game..

I'm going to be incredibly angry if there's a queue or server issues after everyone who broke the street date played all day.

Ok, so I failed to get into Destiny, but really want to get into Destiny 2, seeing how much fun people had with the first one for years, and since I love Halo.

So I have my preorder in, on PSN.

What would be the best way to start the game to get into the core addiction, given that I don't have friends who play? Start just doing quests, and timed battles where I can join with strangers?

Just post in this thread and join our discord (link in quoted OP), there will be many players looking to team up and play together :)

The addiction will settle in once that first piece of gear drops hehe

Just play the campaign first. If you like PvP try that out too. Also you can join the discord channel linked in the OP. GAF has a huge and very friendly global community of people playing Destiny 2. With a little effort it is pretty easy to find groups to play with.
