Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

Interesting how so many are incredibly in love already when really, the bulk of the appeal of Destiny has ALWAYS been the end game (spend 10 hours getting to max level then 300+ hours on the endgame, etc). We really have no idea how any of that will play out. I'm honestly a tad bored with the game -- it's definitely not bad, it just feels exactly like Destiny 1 to me with new areas. I absolutely hate how much recoil auto rifles have, scout rifles are powerful but boring as ever, and grenade launches are absolutely terrible. So far, advancing my Titan has been a very sleepy affair. Instead of an electric jump that damages enemies, now I have a shield that I can run around and hit people with (and every class seemingly has a melee super ability)-- oh yay.

Let's get a few things absolutely clear -- none of us have any idea how good or bad the endgame is, which for most people, if they're honest with themselves, will be what really determines the appeal of this game.

And yes, my mind can definitely be changed by what happens when you reach max level, but for now it's a very safe but pretty sequel that hasn't really blown my socks off.

Quick question. Is the PS4 stuff worth it to get over the Xbox version? I prefer Xbox but was wondering if the extra PS4 stuff is cant miss content.

Am I imagining it or does it feel snappier and faster paced than the beta? Even the opening PVE mission felt quicker all around than the beta. My character didn't feel as heavy.

Man the opening is so dumb, sats down, comms down, dudes are still joking and the first time they realize what's happening is when they see a ship one mile from their faces...

Jesus.

welp, you might be in for a disappointing ride

Story and dialogue simply exist to provide a sense of direction and purpose. If you thought the game provided some intellectual pursuit, unfortunately mistaken. It's a silly sci-fi comic.

Got home from work, 6GB patch, and it's taking forever. I tried to pause and un-pause in the hopes of it speeding up like they usually do, nope, lost 2GB downloaded.

Guess I'll go have dinner and hope it's done when I get back.

Honestly I'm going in expecting end game to be a dumpster fire like D 1

Thanks for this, this really where its hard to really get info. I actually decided to sit this out because I didn't see anything "jaw dropping" and most reviews were basically saying that this game didn't have the problems that the first game had which would be a given at the least (one would hope).

After almost 1000 hours in the first game it will be really damn hard to convince me to come back from being completely burned out. This would have helped with little changes in core mechanics to make grinding engagements less familiar, such as introduction of status effect, no real arc type changes (ice would have been nice), no new subclasses but tweaks that feel more showy than fundamentally changing how you engage enemies. I'm a bit disappointed that Taken enemies weren't removed for the introduction of another threat that could be currently minor (maybe appearing one planet) but point to whats in store for the future.

Glad it helped! I feel exactly the same. I played the game thanks to a friend and I won't buy it now I've finished the campaign.

Destiny 2 fixes all the problem Destiny 1 had, which is a really good thing for people that enjoyed D1 and wanted kind of the same with some QoL improvements. As for myself, I was expecting a bit more and maybe some inspiration from Bungie' Halo era, but it didn't match what they want to do with this universe.

There are some sceneries which are jaw-dropping, especially near the end of the campaign, but nothing like, I would say, The Covenant on Halo 3 or encounter as good as you could get with Silent Cartographer or Keyes from Halo CE.

Plus, I really feel like the AI in Destiny are dumb as hell, the only time I lost to them is because I was outnumbered, and it didn't feel pleasing (at least to me) comparing this to Halo or DOOM. And I would say there isn't much variety regarding the encounter.

Destiny 2 is an excellent game, without the flaws D1 had, but it's nothing more than Destiny, and after spending some time on the first game, I don't see myself doing the exact same thing for hours and hours, it's not that entertaining.

Maybe Destiny 3 will be something different since Bungie will have to do more this time than just QoL improvements, even regarding the universe since the ending lead to a new part Bungie didn't explore with the lore.

Oh, and the Strikes are really disappointing compared to D1.

I was able to get into several Crucible Quick Play games last night on PS4, even though it took a while to evaluate guardians each time.

Probably played about 5 rounds... ALL Supremacy on Legion's Gulch!? Really? Was that just bad luck or is the game mode/map rotation totally messed up?

Went and picked up the Strategy Guide from Best Buy (They priced matched Amazon's price of 23.99) and I guess you get 1 of three covers under the jacket and it is in plastic so you do not know what cover you will get.

Fortunately I was lucky and got the best class on the cover!

How do you change your original characters' appearance? Never got an option anywhere.

Do you have to delete them to do this...?

Edit:
Apparently you can't. That's such fucking BS

I don't understand the whole "Killing same old enemies" complaint I keep seeing.

What did people expect? All of the existing lore to go out the window? The 4/5 current races just to go away?

This complaint sounds like complaining about Orcs or Star Troopers in LOTR and Star Wars games.

Ha, yeah. 'I bought the new battlefield and I can't believe we're only shooting humans again'

They expected new species. For some reason existing lore lets them create those small dogs for Cabal, but nothing new for other races?

I wanted then to add more enemies to the game. Not just the little cabal dogs. Don't get rid of enemies from the first game, just add more.

Yeah, I have to agree with this, though I do have some sympathy for those feeling a bit bummed

Keep the old ones that's fine. I don't think expecting the 'main villains' of this game to be a different race for example is a stretch too far though.
