Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

Have to say I'm a little disappointed that so far there's been a lot of wilderness and less metallic/barren environments than I'd hoped for. Honestly I don't feel like the engine does particularly good job at foliage etc so I'd rather not be swamped in it at the start at least.

I kinda felt D1 looks best on the moon or desert planet as a result. At least at Titan I've got a break from it but I feel like I'll be missing a lot if I don't go back. Hoping the other 2 areas aren't gonna be jungle planets.

Weird question here:

My old man is into shooters, and we've gotten him pretty much all the good ones on the PS4 over the last few years. He's not really into multiplayer in any form. So can Destiny 2 be enjoyed as a single player game? And do you need PS+ to play at all?

The removal of lore is bumming me out the more I play. How would a new player just getting into Destiny get any context for who these factions and enemy types are? Why the dregs only have 2 arms, The fact that the Psions aren't actually Cabal, Where the Hive came from, etc. and don't say they can just look it up online because that is LITERALLY what Bungie said they were going to fix.

I never played D1, but all the impressions in here are making me wanna try D2.
Since all my friends either play on Pc or Xbox, is there an easy way to Co-op with strangers/random players on Ps4?

Neseus is
Vex
themed so no worries there.

I was all set to do that but

SUBCLASS SPOILERS
The mission for the Titan Striker subclass was an absolutely beautiful celebration of the class. I can't rob my classic characters of these moments. I will carry them with me for the rest of this saga.

The bit about how she threw her body at the enemies since she was unbreakable was really good.

Anyone complaining about how their character's looks got mangled coming into Destiny 2? My warlock's hair got lighter, skin got darker and lips became bright red. The last two make her look like she is wearing black face. :'(

... otherwise having a blast.

This is 10x better than D1, it is honestly wonderful...and I'm playing solo cause I just started.

Is there anything I should know? Don't do X quests till later or something, does it matter?

If its like D1 you can target anyone you meet in the wild and just press R3 to bring up an interactions menu and invite them.

Only done a bit of Crucible so far but it's a perfectly viable way to level and gear up as well.
How do activate the heroic version of a PE?
It's different for each event type.

For the Walker events:

When you pop open the walker's weak point it will drop Arc Charges.

Carry the arc charges to the shield generators around the scorch cannons. Once you have unlocked all of them, the Heroic activates and a second walker is dropped down. You also have access to the scorch cannons to use now, which wreck them.
The high servitor on EDZ bodied me, there was no one around. sucks. I was only level 3 still though. Another one with a huge portal on the second planet was packed. Haven't looked into heroics yet.
Trying it alone, still bodied me at level 10.

Really?
You're joking right?
I've been playing Destiny since day one and I have no idea the answers to any of those questions...
I suspect most new comers will be just as happy as the veterans making the guns go "Pew Pew" and seeing the alien heads explode before collecting all the loots without any context of why the aliens need to be shot at...

For the puppies...

Are sparrows just gone or do you still get one at some point in the campaign?

I'll buy this once PSN stops rejecting all my payment methods,

Yeah PSN hates my debit card for some reason. You can just buy a PlayStation network money card on amazon get the code and plug that into PSN. That's how I renew my subscription.

Bit of both for me, I'm interested in what the game has to discover story and lore wise, but it's the gameplay that keeps me from just looking it up on a wiki.

Psn is one of the few digital stores that will reject you if your postal/zip code doesn't match the one on your credit card's record EXACTLY. Psn kept reject me until I realized that and matched them up.

I mostly play single player, there's is a ton of content to explore beyond even the campaign which is 8-10hrs by itself. Just exploring the zones and running into random public events is as as single player as you want it to be. Yes you need PS+

i just found out how the new Faction system works, WOW, this is the best thing they did in the sequel

now everything you do in a certain world feels important, in D1, when doing a public event or side missions, it was kinda pointless unless there was an Exotic weapon quest for them

but now getting legendary weapon is easier than before, the game came out 24 hours ago and i already have like over 5 legendary weapons

even the items you find around the world( the ones where we used to used to upgrade gears with) are now used to level up factions

well done Bungie

It's been a while since a game character made me actually laugh out loud, but I couldn't help myself when
Cayde screams "Please tell me you recorded it!" upon hearing that Zavala said he needs him
. Loving this game so much.

Failsafe is a great addition.
Hope she isn't limited to just Nesus

Fantastic first mission so far lots of reach like moments. Jaggies on ps4 is annoying its the first time actually thinking about getting a pro

Thanks :)

What's the smartest way to buy this? Since I'm one day late, I probably won't get the pre-order stuff anymore. Does any retailer still offer it?

If you're in the UK, GAME usually hand out pre-order bonus codes for a few days after release. Otherwise you could go digital or buy it cheaper from Tesco, Smyth's, Asda's (maybe Amazon too, haven't checked their prices)

There's an area where the jaggies on the
ocean
are so bad that it's jarring.

My early impression: Less than the sum of its parts?
The story is clearly better.
The graphics are better than I gave them credit for.
The new ability is a better improvement than I gave it credit for.

Everything is in place for this game to be one of my favorites. All the qualities to be called great are there, but for some reason I can't do it yet. Still a good game.

Some stuff I don't like. Sparrows missing, oversimplified skill tree, I hate the light/loot system forcing me to pause so often to update gear, shader rework is lol, Eververse push is eye rolling, je ne sais quoi. Something I can't quite put my finger on yet is missing.

Care to elaborate?

each world has a faction, you don't limit yourself to 1 faction like before

to upgrade a faction, you use items you find around the map or by using tokens, you can get tokens by completing public events and side missions

even the blacksmith has a faction, you level up his faction by using gunsmith materials( you get them by dismantle gears)

once you level up a faction, you get a legendary Engram, which includes legendary gears

so now everything you do in the world is useful

Those worried about the shaders etc I have about 50 shaders and mods accumilated access random play today, I've even picked up a few legendary emotes also, the drops rates are excellent

Do they start unlocking after level 20? I'm level 12 and have yet to come across a shader.

Awesome that sounds great. Pretty sure I've nearly leveled up the guy in the EDZ already by collecting those tokens. So I'll get a legendary engram from him?
