Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

Just finished the final mission and

God damn man the improvement over Destiny 1 is astounding. What a fantastic campaign.

I love the new swords btw. Got a Katana one and the attacks are great and how the character holds it is even more great. Like a ninja.

Some random tips:
  • For returning D1 players, choose "View Your Legacy" on the Character Select screen under your actual character listings to view the game opening again.
  • Try to get the hang of the Kinetic/Energy slots.

When in all-out firefights, It's cool to be able to empty a mag, switch to your other and have a full primary mag's worth of bullets without reloading, especially if one or both guns has a quickdraw or bonus on draw type perk. Paired with stuff like the Marksman's Dodge or Rally Barricade and some of the gun/armor perks and you can do a whole lot of shooting without ever manually reloading which just feels awesome.

Also good to learn when to use them situationally.
    • Kinetic weapons do higher crit damage.

In PvE, best for big groups of trash enemies that can survive anything more than a single headshot, unshielded bosses, and unshielded majors.
    • Energy weapons do more damage to anything with any kind of shield.
In PvE, all shielded enemies take more damage from any energy weapon, not just a matching one. If you break the shield with the matching element, you get a huge aoe explosion, extra damage and stun on the target.
In PvP, all enemies using super take more damage from energy weapon, doesn't have to be the matching element. I.e., switch to your energy weapon when you see the message for an enemy's super activation.
  • The elemental shield break is legit. It is worth doing even to targets that are alone. The damage is huge and the stun often sets you up to crit for an easy kill. Remember it's the correct element, and not necessarily just an energy weapon that can produce the shield break. For instance, you can break an Arc shield with the Arcstrider melee attack, causing the stun, and follow up for a Shotgun blast for the kill. Very satisfying.

For endgame loadouts, bear in mind that between your subclass, energy, and power weapon you can cover all three elements if you choose to.
  • For hunting down the lore interactive nodes, you get a little animation of your ghost in the upper right when you are near one. If you pull out your ghost into Nav Mode (just tap touchpad), and you are close enough, he will physically rotate to look at the node as you move around. You can use this to track them down. Bear in mind if your ghost is looking straight up or down, you may have to navigate the environment and change elevation rather than heading in that direction.
  • Your subclasses
are unlocked by finding artificats upon reaching Level 7 and Level 14. Do public events, adventures, etc. and you'll find one. You will then have to do a few public events to charge the artifact, which will then open up a unique quest to recover the subclass. Earned subclasses already have they grenades and jumps unlocked
    .
  • Press start and select (touch pad and options button) at the same time to access the Destinations/Roster menu more quickly than holding the button down. If you have big thumbs you can try to press both at the same time, or even roll your thumb off the touchpad onto the options button.
  • Your entire Inventory tab screen is shared between your characters.
  • Alts can equip sparrows at level 1. Once you unlock on one character, every character
  • Public Events have a special Heroic version activated and completed by doing certain optional tasks, for greater rewards. Here is a graphic showing all of the activations.
  • Once you hit level 20, "Challenges" that replace Destiny's daily bounties will appear in nearly every activity. Complete these daily tasks for a reward of 2 tokens associated with that zone or activity.
  • The area around the vendor on Titan is great for grinding Pub events. There's a Walker event that usually has lots of people around it. And there's 2 world events (Scavengers, High Value Targets) that also count as Public Events.
  • At The Farm, there's an easter egg mini-quest to get a Commander's buff:
    • Get to the roof of the central building and tightrope walk the wire to the hangar until you receive a buff. Then jump off (to the ground)
    • You should get a second buff from the fall.
    • Go to the water wheel and walk atop it for a bit to get the last buff you need
    • Go to the fire by the dock, you can now interact with it
    • This starts a hidden timer for a race. Look toward the football field and you'll see the Dead Orbit crate in front of you is glowing, go stand on it
    • The light will disappear, another will reappear. Chase the lights and finish the race.
If done in time you'll receive a permanent (until death or leaving) buff called 'Patrol Commander' that turns you bright blue (more than the single buff) and gives you full moon jump
  • Infusion (raising the Light level of items by sacrificing higher light items) tips:
    • Exotics/legendaries can be infused with any rare or legendary for 4 Legendary Marks
    • Legendaries seem to dismantle into ~3 marks, and Exotics into 5.
    • Infusion material must be of the same gun type (i.e. Scout), but does need to be of the same slot (Kinetic/Energy).
    • Exotics can be infused into other exotics using only Glimmer, no marks necessary.

Thanks! Best tip I've had all day :D

Buddy and I just figured out the secret at the farm to get the top level of blue glow and jump, Patrol Commander. Know we're far from the first but knew nothing about it and figured it all out. Really fun and a neat thing to have to close off the Destiny session.

After much research at work, gonna ditch my titan and restart as a hunter tonight. Titan is too similar to master chief and other space marines. Warlock was in the running but I already use a biotic character in Mass Effect. Hunter is the only one that is unique afaik.

Any reason why I shouldn't save up all my level up points until I get the subclass I want?

Essentially, I want my nightstalker fully leveled when I can finally access it.

How do you finish the challenges? I need to do a couple in the edz but I can't because I've done 3 that are in the menu. Says 100% but no idea how to finish them

Just give us PC early plz Bungie. Be a nice dood and let us live our dreams. Have they actually ever said why we are getting it so late?

Damn I love this game so far. All the missions have been great and some have had some fantastic atmosphere. The one strike I played was really cool too.

Time to get back to it!

Scratching my head at the massive praise for the opening mission of the game. It's literally the same mission as the beta, nothing particularly great. I mean it's better than launch Destiny 1 campaign, but what isn't?

Huh?

Are you asking how to turn in the challenge for your reward? Ikora gives out that challenge and she will in turn reward you for completing it.

As someone who played the beta without touching Destiny 1, I thought it was pretty dope.

Any word on how it performs on XB1? I have a Pro and very little time, but most of my D1 friends are on XB1 and if I can spare an hour or two on a weekend, I might play online with them. I am most interested in the SP and least interested in Raids and loot chasing.

People just being overly hyped, you won't even get good discussions about issues etc. For a few weeks at least once the honeymoon is over. Just enjoy for now.

I think the praise is more aimed at the opening sequence (after the beta Homecoming mission). I thought it was pretty awesome with the music and all.

Once you hit level 20 and get the engram from him can you keep going back and feeding him tokens?
Yeah, he can only be holding one engram at once for you, but if you keep doing EDZ token stuff prior to level 20, so basically the more tokens you have built up in a stack upon hitting 20 the more of a lootsplosion you will get.

I think most people that are excited about the beginning are referring more to the second mission. Homecoming is a great mission too, but we've seen it. I wasn't expecting anything like that second mission in a Destiny game.
