Destiny 2 |OT| Here We Go Again

Still waiting on my PC copy but from what I'm reading as long as they aren't too hard to get once you hit max level, I don't really have a problem with it.

People are going to attach onto something to whine about with a game as big as D2..compared to the problems in the first game this feels pretty minor.

You're/We're going to be waiting 47 more days for it :|

Hunters are best

re: Titan water (or whatever it is, maybe methane?) It definitely looks weird... Not terrible but inconsistent with the rest of the scenery so it's a bit jarring.
Curious what it looks like on PC.

Also, mild spoilers for Titan mission:
In the part of the Arcology where you steal the CPU, if you look out the windows you can see the shadow of a MASSIVE sea monster thing swim by
Was a real holy shit moment. Hopefully that plays in later on, but if not, it was still a nice touch. That whole area is really cool. Hive environments look much better in this game.

Been having a lot of fun just patrolling the first two areas of the game so far. Some of the adventure missions have been really great far. My biggest issue with the game is that it feels too easy, and I've been steamrolling through most of the opposition. Would have been nice to have some difficulty modifier options while playing through, but otherwise I've been having a great time.

PvP might take some getting used to though. The longer time to kill and all just doesn't feel that great, and my best weapons to use have been auto rifles since I've found them more forgiving then my preferred method of play style, which was to stick with pulse and scout rifles for the most part. I hope there is a Nirwen's Mercy / Hopscotch Pilgrim variant out there with really high stability.

All of the weapons have been really fun to use, but I have to admit there certainly was an appeal to finding new gear and checking out their perks, finding out which ones would work well together with the weapon's archetype. This didn't really come into play for me until I really decided to dive into the PvP, but it did give some of the weapons some nuance, which made the game very re playable for me. I'm still about... half way into the game I guess, since I have two more planets / patrol areas to go explore.

Still trying to find my preferred style of play here, but I'm really enjoying the journey so far.

I want to replay raids and trials because it's fun, not because I say to myself 'boy I should run trials again because I'm low on a shader'.

At that point it just becomes work.

Exactly this.

And honestly, some people aren't good at PvP. Some people don't Raid. But they're completionists so they push through and they get a cool shader and it feels super rewarding.

Now when they put new armor sets in the game, which will be happening more often in Destiny 2, you will need to go back to Trials to try and get a shader you already worked your butt off to get.

That's not fun or rewarding.

I think Luke made things worse with that response.

I am gonna expect the Raid to be one of the greatest coop experiences ever....hopefully.

Nothing will top VoG.

And I think people are blowing this shader thing way out of proportion. I'll reserve judgement until we see how many shaders drop.

It's especially annoying when Trials and Raid content is brought in. Those are huge time/skill commitments. I run raids more than once but not regularly and I sit Trials out because I suck at it. If I earn something from them I want to keep it.

I reached Power level 260. All Milestone mission is gone, except a pvp mission (call to arms) and the nightfall. What is next? How can i get power level 300?

Decided to restart my character and nuke all of my old ones so I can choose a race/gender for the specific dance I want for each class. When you consider how much dancing you do in three years I feel this is a legitimate reason.

Gonna take this one by one:

1. Shaders have always been earned through gameplay.
2. It's great that you're adding more places to earn them.
3. Would you consider this flush? This is DGAF Everyday Math:

Look how many shaders! Wow!
Look how many are below 4. :(

It takes a long time to get to 20. And even once you get to 20 you're moving through gear at a fast pace. ZERO incentive to use shaders til you're at the very end game and have a stable loadout.

But what shaders come from where? The kiosk used to handle this. You can inspect some vendors to see, but this a real problem.

But that's still gonna be true if the shaders aren't consummable. You have 3 weapons, 4 armor slots, and a ship. And that's before you get into alternate load outs and other characters.

I gives me real anxiety looking at this (mine is similar):

I'm not good at picking out what colors go well with each other. And I am paralyzed trying to figure out what to apply to what. And the penalty for changing or undoing is so steep.

I hate this change. Only the consummable part of it. Keep 'em as drops. Just don't penalize me for experimenting and wanting to change things around.

This is like 2 years when class items had light and you had to wear the highest light item even if you hated it because it had the highest light.

Conceptually, you described mats.

I don't think so. We can distinguish between currencies (consumable item consumed in a transaction or use) and gear you equip directly for use. Shaders used be gear, something you equip directly. Now they're still gear, but operate like currencies.

And I think people are blowing this shader thing way out of proportion. I'll reserve judgement until we see how many shaders drop.

Yeah, I don’t get it. I’m all for companies padding their pockets w/ cosmetic micro transactions as opposed to ones that affect gameplay. Activision is making Bungie monetize the game in some way, I’m just grateful it’s something as pointless as armor paint colors. In the end, hardcore players will pony up cash for the cosmetic upgrades, Activision will be happy and the core gameplay won’t be monetized.

Microtransactions are not going anywhere so people need to get used to them and also appreciate when they’re solely based on cosmetic changes, that’s best case scenario.

Yep.

This game is fucking amazing. I got goosebumps after the credits ended. The story was great. The loot system is overall awesome.

But this is a bad decision and I hope they decide to listen. Just add a shader collection to the vault, let us fill up our 50-count inventory with them and let use swap them back and forth.

(... Also, while we're at it, let us equip multiple emotes. Thanks.)

I'm gonna reiterate that I'm happy female Titan armor actually looks good on them now. They actually conform to their body structure instead of looking like they're trying to wear male Titan armor and looking awkward af. They actually look just as sexy as female Hunters.

Campaign was okay.
The story was generic as hell right down to the cliche "we're not so different you and I" dialog. The banter on Nessus was amusing though. The Ghaul fight was a terrible bullet sponge mess where you just run around sitting behind walls until he jumps into view to be shot across the arena. Most of the abstract level design started to blur together at one point, but tere were some pleasant surprises like the Arcology on Titan, the vehicle segments and the city mission. They still succumbed to the Destiny formula though with how bite sized they were; the city in particular was too short of a section and I doubt I'll be able to go back and trigger the mission. And for all the hype about characters appearing in the game, they're only scripted vignettes or stationary vendors, and any fighting they do is limited to a cutscene. It's a far cry from the Halo days when the Arbiter would fight alongside you or you would storm a beach with Noble Team at your flank. Seeing the Taken reused was also a shame.

The patrols feel much livelier this time and all of the QoL updates are amazing except for the stupid shader grind change, which makes me not even want to use them until I get gear I actually like. Between that and the garbage character creator, which somehow managed to get worse in the 3 years it obviously wasn't touched, I'm not feeling a whole lot of hype for replaying the game (especially considering how long it takes to get a new character to the farm). The main thing keeping me going is the incredible soundtrack and the gunplay, which is finely tuned to the point that almost every attack I've done feels satisfying.

It's better than Destiny 1 in almost every way, but I still expected more from Bungie.

edit: also
was there not even a cutscene for destroying/disabling the almighty? I planted the charge and then it just went to The Last City cutscene.

I'm really glad you said the word "anxiety." That's how I feel.

It's how I felt with freaking Chroma. I never used Chroma until I had a TON because I wanted to mix and match and try out different things. It should have been like... you use a Chroma on a piece of armor, it's there forever. And you can cycle through them if you "use" all the different colors.

(Instead, they even charged us to "break down" Chroma and it gave us a freaking random option until we spent more money.)

And isn't it like 5000 glimmer to apply a shader in Destiny 2? Every single time?

VoG was such a revelation for Destiny. I feel bad for anyone who didn't get to experience it in the first week of it being live because of the community trying to figure it out.

Hopefully this first raid for D2 has the same feeling.

I haven't even fully installed the game yet so I don't fully know what you're talking about, but I'm trying to imagine in my head why bulky armor is bad on women and I don't really get it.

The key point is that this used to be free and unlimited. Now it's consummable. \

Bungie added exotic weapon ornaments last year and those were great. I spent plenty of real money on them. But that was adding something. Adding something purely consmetic and unnecessary.

Shaders affect so much of how your character looks. Weapon cosmetics were nice because they took something that already looked good and made it different.

I look like a hideous dirt clown right now.

When I put merely 2 hours in to Destiny 2 I said this was better than the entirety of Destiny 1 vanilla. 20 hours in and I think this is better than Destiny 1 in total. The QOL improvements alone are just fantastic, the stuff to do and see, etc.

I smiled when I fucked up a jump but the ledge-climb kicked in. THAT WAS WHEN I REALIZED.
I realized when I didn't have to use an item to make enemies drop money... I just kill them now and they all drop money.... I don't know how many times in d1 I forgot to use those and would do like 2 strikes before I remembered 😂😂😂😂

One of the missions near the end felt exactly like the inside of a covenant ship in halo 2. Even down to the same shaped doors and similar hangar layouts. Was weird.

Also to everyone who
fell following hawthorne's hawk at the beginning
, mind the
Twilight
Gap.

Cuz it just used to look like it gave them massive heads and shoulder pads that look like they're about to fall off their shoulders. Basically they looked like a child wearing their parents' clothing. They actually changed the shape and size to conform to their smaller body compared to the males who look like Hulks.

Just started this "relics of the golden age" quest. Does anyone know what it rewards upon completion?

Edit: ah. Never mind. I found out.

Bungie should add a feature like Xenoblade Chronicles were you set your gear based on stats and you set also your gear just for the looks and you play looking what you want to look with max stats.

I know we have a while to go for PC release, but I hope they add an option to quickly double tap jump to perform the hunter dodge. Same as PS4 where you double tap circle.

Havent played warlock yet, but how to you perform the air move on console. PC also had a separate bind.

I now have a titan exotic helmet that has massive devil-like horn blades. It also grants melee, grenade and super energy when damaged. This game is alright.
