Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

From Software is.

Whether it's externally with Sony Japan, right now there's no reason to think that.

That's a From IP, not a Sony one. From is apparently working on a new one.

Oops. I'm an idiot. I kept seeing people here post that From Software was developing a new Armored Core but for whatever reason, I thought it was Japan Studio.

Thats kind of depressing. I think Puppeteer got good reviews, didn't it? Why Sony bother marketing this game?

It did review pretty well, but it sold really, really poorly. There's a growing list of good-to-great games at the $40 price point that just don't find widespread commercial success: Puppeteer, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Tearaway: Unfolded, probably Knack II (which I'm really enjoying so far despite not liking the original much or the demo - got it for free thanks to the pricing error but will gladly pay if my license gets revoked). About the only $40 title that seemed to find both both critical and commercial success was Ratchet & Clank.

It's disheartening, but on the other hand those games aren't necessarily from genres that are all that popular anymore, so I'm just happy they get to exist, as most of them have been some of my favorite experiences from the past decade.

And while Knack II is redeeming the franchise, as has been said numerous times by many, I'd still rather it have been the PS3 title and Puppeteer been the PS4 launch title. I could have been enamored by Puppeteer 2 by now.

^ Personally I wasn't really a fan of Shinobi's leaks. I feel like fully leaking a game like Horizon a long time in advance ruins some of the surprise for the devs and only serves to get a boost in Internet Fame. It's not like with Demonite (RIP) where his clues were really cryptic and some of the fun was in deciphering them, which are the kind of leaks I do enjoy.

It serves to generate excitement for the game. I like knowing about stuff early. I DONT like guessing at clues that no one figures out until the game's been released.

I totally understand this perspective too. Maybe that's why he doesn't really do it anymore

that's the developer and publisher's job though

Yes, he hasn't finished TLoU.

Wait how has he not finished the game? I mean I get actors not watching their own movies, but never writers not experiencing their own works firsthand...

Then again he is just writing the script, as opposed to say Bruce Straley who probably had to finish the game seeing as he was a designer and had to focus on things like gameplay and pacing.

He didn't just write the script, he was in charge of all the 'creative' parts of the game (mocap, off-hand dialogue, soundtrack, etc). My guess is he's played different sections before, to make sure everything comes together, but hasn't played the full game from start to finish.

lol yeah about that

I would hope it's probably been addressed by now since he's been on sabbatical

We really don't have much to talk about at the moment in this thread do we? Lol ;)

I'm a tad surprised at how little TGS talk is happening around the forum in general. There seems to be a widespread cognitive dissonance surrounding that show because so many people seem to have either forgotten or don't realize how many notable games have been announced there in the past few years.

I'm hyped for it but pretty much any thread or talk about it gets shut down or met with a large amount of cynicism because AAA's aren't announced there

Yeah it's a shame and honestly kind of weird given how much enthusiast circles such as GAF enjoy games like Yakuza and Gravity Rush. The indifference toward TGS is something I'll never understand.

Yup I'm excited myself
Lot of anime show games announced we haven't seen gameplay of yet
Monster hunter world
Etc
But than again I don't depend on announcements to rule a show it's more so what's shown for me

Neil's "Believe me, we're super excited to show you more of Ellie and Joel's 2nd journey, but right now it's Chloe and Nadine's time to shine." tweet is no longer pinned.

It's happening! :p

Why's it weird? Games like Yakuza are a given and even then Sega had their own event for that earlier

It seems like most people want to see the big stuff like Devil May Cry or From Software, but it's not really the show to expect those things anymore

I just find it odd how indifferent a lot of the forum is toward TGS because a lot of the sorts of games we see people gush over get announced at and heavily featured there.

Edit:
Not lambasting anyone for not being excited, just pointing out that the lack of buzz is a bit surprising to me.

TGS in general seems to garner the least amount of hype of the big shows due to there simply being far less leaks involved since announcements there are almost entirely made by Japanese studios. A good example of this is DQ Heroes. There were no rumblings about that at all going into TGS 2014. Even with Persona 5's PS4 announcement, there really weren't any rumors even though people expected it to be released on the PS4. By comparison with big US announcements you tend to at least hear something about them. That may be a rumor, job listening, voice/motion capture artists listing games on their resumes etc. But you really don't get that for TGS. So whatever is announced there is usually a surprise.

maybe the dream will come true at this Years TGS Show.
An full fledged Open World One Piece Game could be a big announcement for Japan

Nakajima-san, You’ve worked on so many One Piece games from Musou to fighting games to adventure games, where do you want to take the One Piece series next?

KN: So currently since I’m still working on One Piece: Burning Blood, there’s no specific plan for the next title but what I personally think is that with the PS4 and Xbox One we have powerful hardware and also I personally like open world games. This might be a good candidate for One Piece where Luffy takes his own boat and go on his own adventure in an open world so that could be interesting!

Thanks a million.

TGA and PSX being so close again is unfortunate.

Looking forward to all of them, but PSX the most obviously.

I think they plan it to be together. I've seen Geoff saying he thinks it's helpful that both are close. They are pretty different kind of events too.

PSX is my favorite too, I think it's a huge achievement that Sony could make this work. In my opinion, for announcements PSX is now the best place outside of E3.
