PewDiePie "What a f***ing n*****." out of frustration when his teammate dies.

nigger is only insulting because it's a derogatory word for black people. It's a dehumanizing term to indicate someone is less than human

if you use it as an insult to somebody regardless of their race, you're basically normalizing "you are less than an actual human being, and I'm using black people as the bar"

Like, how the fuck does this have to be explained?

People like Pewdiepie and bootsthecat use the word as an insult because being called a nigger is insulting, because then you're considered black, and being black is considered a bad thing to these people.

It's that simple. If you use the word as an insult or when you're angry, you're a racist.

Because if you're not a racist, then why would you choose that word out of all the words available to you?

I'm quite aware of what he was asking. Anon thought process is irrelevant and i don't have a peer reviewed written essay on the subject. And as I said, he needs to apologise and handle it properly. You know, handled like adults and not a blind internet mob.

Why should he apologize when you're doing it for him?

The true surprise here is that there was anyone at all who still believed he isn't a racist.

They're not defending him in spite of his racism, but because of it.

Oh hey, the racist twat got banned.

Go back to r/t_d or 4chan you trash.

Even TB don't defend this BS, and I don't even like TB. Fuck.

Didn't realise he was this bad. Shame for the kids that watch him - this is probably the tip of the iceberg of the gross crap he instills in them. Hopefully he gets taken down in terms of his influence if he's running around being casually racist.

PDP is apparently so charming we got people coming out saying they occasionally use nigger as a pejorative in the same way he did, and that it's okay because they're socially adjusted adults and not broadcasting it.

Fuck me sideways.

I never want to be that entertained or a fan of something

You cannot educate someone with no dispersal of resolve through conventional means. All you really do is embolden them to their beliefs. The best you can do is to allow their piece to be said aloud and continue the conversation forward, as if he's spoken to the wind...

(Not speaking PDP...if they accept that position of notoriety, they should be willing to accept the consequences of it)

His content is so degenerate with like no reedeming humour or intelligence.

I agree and I know I am going to get a lot of flack for this but doesn't rap music and modern internet humour normalise it. The brevity and pain of the word has been diminished. Don't get me wrong black Twitter has been great as has black American hip-pop/rap culture. However it has trivialised the word. Us woke folk who are educated on the matter understand the context and I am sure Pewdiepie should as well but imagine every second meme you look at has the 'n' word in it and when you singing along to your fav rap song the word is espoused every line...The potency of the word is lost on people.

In my 55/45 black:white school in South Africa students regardless of race would refer to eachother as n**gas because the word was never used during apartheid and therefore our generations only exposure to it was in meme culture/ rap culture. The K****r word was used in Apartheid to dehumanise black people and is still completely unacceptable to say in any context. I have never heard it uttered once, yet n***** is frequent. Black people call white people 'n' word and vica-versa. Why? Well one cannot say that rap music/ black Twitter humour has not normalised it.

That said Pewdiepie is certainly adding to the problem.

Talking about your peer interactions at school isn't an apt comparison to what's happening here.

This is about a 27 year old man projecting his racism onto hundreds of millions of children.

It's a grown man dog whistling racism to kids. He's exposing peoples children to adult themes and grotesque racism. Adult themes. I.e.18+

Would you be comfortable for a man to expose your children to adult themed racist content?

Well you can't read read someone's mind. If they're using it against everyone as a general insult it makes it less associated with black people. Well at least hopefully.

As ContraPoints said in her video, racist trolls are often not trolls. Just racist fucks who want to broadcast their racist feelings without getting stigmatized. Non racist people don't make "funny" videos about killing jews or blurt out "what a fucking n-word".

So, to recap, you came into this thread to dismiss the outrage and minimize the offense, but now that someone wants you to go into your thought process, it's suddenly irrelevant.

Well, let's make it relevant. I'm no longer concerned with why PDP thought it wasn't a big deal. I now want to know why you, FutureLarking, see it as no big deal. If you would, please explain.

It in no way makes it less associated with black people. In no way.

I totally get it, but here is the problem:

YOU DON'T FUCKING USE IT AS A FUCKING INSULT.

Like I said, there is a million way to insult somebody. Or better yet

JUST DON'T USE THE N WORD.

How hard is it ? jesus

and people thought he was okay LOL

I think a lot of people, like me, just know he's the biggest youtuber and that he's been on late night tv etc, but have never watched any of his videos or know anything about him. I vaguely remember something about anti-semitic jokes now that I look in this topic, but I never read about it cos I didn't care. Don't care about this either, but it seems pretty clear the guy is trash. Kids have a tendency to be love being shitpeople, but I get the feeling guys like this throw that instinct into hyperdrive.

I agree and I would not want my kid to be an ingnorant insensitive fucktard . My point is most of his audience won't give a second thought to it because it has already been normalised. I watched a provincial debate on this very issue. The motion was "The is house regrets the rise of black Twitter". This was one of the points that was brought up. Just think it should be discussed but maybe not in this thread because it might derail it.

If you have to insult someone, then there are hundreds of other choice words you can direct towards that person over a racist pejorative.

Also, this should be on gaming side considering that this is relevant towards the gaming community as a whole over off-topic, imo.

It wouldn't have surprised me years ago let alone today.

Have thought he was a horrible person for years.

Never understood those that couldn't see it.

This is a guy who earned the trust of millions of children online, their respect and hero worship during his screaming at amnesia days.

Now he's exposing these children to adult themes and racism.

Would you let a 27 year old man do that to your kids in real life?

Let some guy gain your children's trust and expose them to that kind of content? This isn't video games. It's real and it's personal.

Well you can't read read someone's mind. If they're using it against everyone as a general insult it makes it less associated with black people. Well at least hopefully.

That's not how it works though. Because they're still viewing it as an insult.

And if they're viewing it as an insult, it's because they agree with the message of the word.

Apparently the alternative to using racial slurs and being outraged by them in this thread is to use similar sexist words.

Yup! Reminds me of this music teacher that rents a lockout studio in the same building as me, who was ranting to one of his students about Trump, Hillary and politicans a few months ago.

"All politicians are a bunch of NIGGERS", going on to explain how he's allowed to say that because his mom is Dominican or something.

Basically didn't make any sense to me, but it resonated that the most derogatory term he can think to call somebody is a slur for a black person. I wanted to confront him, but I'm not looking to talk to a person like that.

And if they're viewing it as an insult, it's because they agree with the message of the word.

I mean it depends what your thoughts were when saying it. If you honestly didn't think of black people at all I can't view it as a race thing. one probably would think of race when using it but i won't automatically assume it without knowing their background and such

I think a lot about how sports fandom and economics is inherently reactionary, and how that bleeds into our culture. And, with all the horrible shit in gaming, I wonder if videogame culture will play a similar - if not worse - role with younger generations.

edit: whoops wrong thread, but i'll keep it here

Well you can't read read someone's mind. If they're using it against everyone as a general insult it makes it less associated with black people. Well at least hopefully.

If it wasn't so loaded with racist hatred, then they wouldn't be using it. Even if they themselves don't agree with the sentiment, they are employing that sentiment and reinforcing it.

True.

P.S In regards to the bolded it's her video not his video.
