PewDiePie "What a f***ing n*****." out of frustration when his teammate dies.

I was playing PUBG duo with somebody on the GAF PUBG Discord. We got pretty far into the game and had a bit of a good experience throughout it. You can bond in a short time when you've got each other's back. Then we ended up dying pretty late, got like 4th place. Suddenly, the guy I was playing with yells out "FUCKING N****RS!!"

It quickly killed the mood. I asked him if he often uses racial slurs when he is angry and he said yeah it's no big deal. When I said I think it is a big deal and that I'm black, he literally said "Well, people call me a nazi sometimes, but you don't see me getting angr about it."

I don't play with this person anymore.

lmao i think he just got banned sooo

EDIT: Saw your post, thats fucked up dude

I did. Multiple have. People in charge have been told about it, but no action has taken place.

Wow that stinks, I'm on that channel but haven't seen that.

I could understand a reddit discord but the fact that the GAF one allows that is disheartening.

We're not even talking about gamer culture though. I'll agree that it isn't going to go away any time soon. But that doesn't excuse anyone from using it, especially not someone like PewDiePie, who should know that he has a huge audience and is under a lens so should be aware that he needs to be responsible with what he says. If someone nobody uses the word that's one thing, but it's extremely important that when PewDiePie uses the word that the impact is felt, so others know that this is not acceptable in this society. That will be how gamer culture gradually changes.

I literally said what he said though, so I don't know what your problem is. Do you even know what your problem is?

Me said:
The reason many of us are getting riled up about this case in particular: his attitude fucking sucks and he has too many kids watching who will parrot his behavior. Imagine children of color trying to reconcile this. Anyone old enough to give him a thoughtful pass likely thinks this is a good thing and wants to punch down minority groups.

I'm arguing against people giving him a pass due to current gaming culture.

hot damn, someone's account just got nuked over on gaming side, their post and thread history completely removed

people are losing their damned minds over trying to defend PDP

it's a spectacle to behold
Who was it? I am only peeking into this thread occasionally as my blood is boiling over the defenses.

Hmmmmmm, what could be the thing that differentiates the two situations...

I WONDER????

i'm not defending pdp. the guys a fucking idiot. but if you care about the kids (which i dont think people really do. they just want to be outraged) youd be talking about ksi putting out diss tracks calling people the n-word and threatening to fight people. in fact at his upload event where all the kids are about 10 years old he's having a boxing match with another youtuber he's got 'beef' with. they got on stage and started insulting each other and pushing each other. and its not just these two. theres this big movement of youtubers creating fake drama and insulting each other and threatening each other right now. whats a worse influence?

wont somebody think of the kids?!

meanwhile, the same kids that are watching pewdiepie are watching ksi say the n-word every second sentence. but i guess thats not going to influence them?

I have no idea what you're saying or what KSI is, but more than one thing can be bad.

That happened to me too semi-recently. Just playing then a friend of one of the guys joins and figures it's cool to use that terminology with the rest of the group.

Got real weird quick.

Probably the guy with a history of right wing racist behaviour.

You're free to start a thread about ksi being a stupid twat if you're that concerned by what people think about him.

that i dont really buy the virtue signalling of 'what about the kids' cause noones mentioning the real shit thats going on right now with fake beefs and boxing matches in front of 10 year olds.

I'm willing to bet that more people know who PewDiePie is than ... ksi.

Damn, he later in the stream said he forgets he's streaming sometimes.

That alone confirms that he drops N bombs on the reg.

Nah you guys can pearl clutch all you want, I stand by my point. When I have friends this weekend tell me to pick up our bar tab with my "Jew gold", the same guys who understand why the N-word is off limits, I maintain that jokes at Jewish people are more in the realm of social acceptability.

You're the one who tolerates it though. It's different when you're shooting the shit with friends of that race/group and you all know each other for a long time.

If PewDiePie were talking about Jew gold or said kike on his stream, people would also be angry at him.

a) ksi is black.
b) I have no idea who this dude even is.
c) I am absolutely concerned about people like PewDiePie indoctrinating kids to racism and other nonsense.
d) I think fake youtube drama is stupid as fuck. It's just not as big a deal as racism, especially in the current climate. In any climate, really.

Yes you literally are verbatim using the exact same "defense" that I've seen used to justify letting other types of racism slide

It's not like I don't speak up when people say racist shit though. Just when it comes to things related to Jewish people, I don't know, I guess I'm more comfortable trying to decide what a person's intentions are? Or it just isn't shocking to me because I am that and I'm kinda used to it? Idk. I'm just kinda rambling at this point.

There's a huge difference there and I'm not even talking about the difference in skin color between the two.

rap is rap, only the dumb white kids would imitate it without considering the weight the word has.

I highly doubt KSI has as much influence as PDP, lol.

If you're using KSI as emblematic of problematic rap as a whole, then that's an entirely different discussion and doesn't negate this one. But I would say that a black man using the word is an entirely different context than a white man using the word.

"Virtue Signaling" is not an actual thing, it's a concept KiA created to harass anyone that has even a little bit of empathy.

A black guy saying nigga in a song is as bad a white dude with an anti semitic and racist history screaming the N-word
lol

but if you care about the kids (which i dont think people really do. they just want to be outraged)

About this:

do you care about the kids?

Or do you just want to be outraged?

Because otherwise it should be pretty fucking obvious to you why it's worrisome when a guy with an audience of millions, many of whom are pretty impressionable and young, constantly promotes an atmosphere of racial intolerance. That the larger context of his use of that word makes it very clear why his use of it is dangerous and hurtful. It shouldn't really be a question, and probably isn't really a question, but is instead a wedge by which you can try to pry people's sense of self-righteousness loose from their person, whether or not they are correct (and they are) to be feeling that way in response to this man inviting condemnation upon his stupid pointy fuckin' head.

The real problem for you, as per the way you've laid it out, isn't that people are possibly worried about the effect such casual racism is broadcast directly into the heads of impressionable kids, it's that you don't like the notion of people responding to it in a way that shows they give a fuck, and that other people are making a point of agreeing with that response.

You're coming off as very lazily cynical and it reads as if the sight of people giving a shit seems inherently artificial to you, so it's more important to you that the (non-existent) artifice you're (incorrectly) spotting is called out rather than actually addressing the more important aspects of the conversation.

"Sure it's bad that he's making millions while being an unapologetic (or faux-apologetic as he gets keep getting caught and caught again) racist in front of kids, but you know what's worse? GIVING A SHIT IN PUBLIC."

That's the premise you seem to be operating on.

he should be finished from YouTube. It's infuriating that kids have to listen to this shit

It's easy to blame the content on the internet for this, but this is up to parents.

Even if he didnt say the N word, he's said a lot of other stuff that got a pass, as do many other Youtubers who have a children's audience, but R rated content.

Parents need to be doing better here, and it's an entire culture of kids who have complete access to unfiltered content. This is a bigger, and more challenging topic that doesn't get the discussion it needs because the internet has moved too fast and parents simply dont monitor a kid's internet use.

That reminds me. Was other guy in the PewDiePie video a known quantity? Because if you listen to the other guy in the video where PewDiePie says he forgot he was streaming, he accuses everyone of virtue signalling before even seeing a reaction. Pretty shitty person too.
