It's probably been covered, and I'm not excusing the use of the word, but English is his second language, and words don't carry the same weight they do for non-native speakers. It's very likely the word entered his lexicon at a young age, and it's hard to change those kinds of patterns.

The N word has been used to degrade, shame and dehumanize an entire culture and still to this day is said with venom and seething palpable hatred toward people of color to disassociate them from the rest of humanity.

Cracker as a pejorative term is used by people of color as a reference to slave masters, or whip crackers, and is an insult to people who claim superiority over another race. It's not exactly great, but let's not even try to pretend for a second that this term has anywhere near the cultural impact as the n word.

Usually the type of statement you just made is used by racist white people as a justification for saying the n word. Not saying that's how you think, but when I read your post I immediately assumed that is the type of person you are. Might want to rethink your world view here.
