Rampant racism has always been there, just buried deep. Its just bubbling out lately because of trump, ultra right wings politics recent rise.. and any attempt in society to admit that there is still a huge problem.

Man, almost every page in this thread is a very tall hill these idiots choose to come and die. They are uber stupid too.

The sad thing is that most of them are just keeping the game going. They have many alts ready to go, burn one on something particularly big, get the biggest reaction, burn it, then move on to another or go back to their main. This thread is interesting because it feels like a lot of these burned accounts are from the same person.

It's just...day 1 trolling. It's simply harder to do here due to the mods and the systems required to get an alt in the first place but...So many of these guys are just trying to get a reaction than adding anything to the conversation because...well, look at the arguments. It's basically, "no you!" every time.

That tag is hilarious, but no one is reveling in it more than the poster.

I only want to highlight this as to show how Pewdiepie is influencing kids. To normalise racist and other bigoted slurs so that kids can use them casually as jokes while being ignorant of the history of these words.

It's so sad. Any of you parents who have kids that watch gaming Youtube, there's a high chance you're likely to come across this kind of language being used like it's no big deal. These slurs are already very frequent on live gaming streams through chat and sometimes the host.

Kids are now wondering why they aren't allowed to use racist slurs thanks to Pewdiepie. This is why Pewdiepie shouldn't be on Youtube any longer.

This is an excellent example and the sort of thing that might actually show some people the actual effects of this kind of bullshit, but seeing as he is actually a kid I think it might be best to take the images down and reupload them with the usernames blacked out.

Probably because most people have dynamic IP addresses, so it wouldn't do any good other than having someone potentially not being able to access GAF down the line when they get assigned a GAF-banned IP.

Plus I wouldn't be surprised if these alts use VPNs when posting.

it's the recent saying "When you are accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression". The more progress is made, the more people of color and women speak up about equality, the more things like gay marriage or trans rights are brought the forefront, the more these groups of people are given voices, the more you have these insulated communities of (mostly) young white males who convince themselves that all of this progress is simply marginalizing them and victimizing them. Heaven forbid that you stop using racist/homophobic jokes now that society is trying to be more inclusive. Nope. Some provider uses dynamic IP system so that ban is ineffective and in turn screws other people.

This is very true. God, the kind of stuff I used to hear on voice chat with Modern Warfare and Lost Planet. I was a teenager at the time and some of it still made the damn hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Yeah, it's for sure this. People in this thread who were openly condemning PDP were tripping over themselves to clarify that THEY are innocent when it was pointed out that some white dudes say the n word a lot when they're hanging out with other white dudes. Alright so I posted this really long thing on twitter about this (well long for twitter anyway) but as I don't want to retype the whole thing or link to it directly my thoughts come down to this...

Shit like the n-word being used in gaming is not new we've all herd it likely a hundred times playing games online should it be Call of Duty or Player Unknown BG, or Halo, Overwatch, or whatever else. It's not an uncommon thing to hear in general chat because every single gaming community is full of toxic people and toxicity and unfortunately all of us are at least partly to blame for that.

I'm not in any way trying to defend PDP, let me be perfectly clear but the point I'm trying to make is a lot broader then just PDP here. What he said is horrible and he deserves all the backlash hes getting and then some and we all know its not the first time.

That said, going back to what I was talking about... Things like the n-word get repeated time and time again online, its nothing new. It shouldn't be all that surprising to anyone to hear a clip of someone saying that word while playing a game online if not worse on top of that. The problem is that 'we' as in ALL of us have let people get away with it for far to long.

Perhaps it was a friend who said it and you didn't want to challenge them or cause a problem, maybe you thought it was funny in a shocking way, maybe you were just happy it wasn't being directed at you and instead of speaking up you kept quiet because the last thing anyone wants is for that garbage to be redirected towards you.

Whatever the reason we as gamers have gone far to long without properly speaking up about these things. We've let our communities of PSN, Xbox Live, ect. devolve into toxicity so bad that many of us just don't even play games online anymore or just mute everyone you come into contact with and only talk with friends.

I get that, I understand that but that also is part of the problem, because instead of taking a stand against a random horrible person, or even a close friend we've let it become normal, we've let it be okay because once they get away with it, hell once people laugh at it and find it funny they just have their bad behavior reinforced time and again and we've literally seen great communities devolve into what I would best describe as madness.

So my point is this, we've got to stop letting this shit happen. Yeah taking a stand against PDP is great and its well deserved but we all know hes not the only one, hell we all likely know someone we have played games in the past or present who has said things we know are not okay and we can't just ignore it anymore or mute everyone and pretend its not happening, we have to take a stand, we have to try and fight for our communities and see if we can actually make a difference.

I'm not saying that its easy, hell I'm not even saying its really possible at this point and personally my first instinct is to say 'its not my problem' like I think many people here would, but if we ignore it then we forfeit the right to really complain about it because if we aren't willing to take a stand how do we expect anything to change?



I think we all know this goes far beyond PDP or the n-word alone, this in general is about how toxic the gaming community actually is and personally I'm tired of it being thought of in such a negative way and if we want it to change, we have to be willing to fight back.

I'm teaching at a middle school this year, and the kids throw slurs around constantly. I talk with them and they don't see why it's not ok. Even had one kid openly call a black student a "gorilla" in my classroom.
