PewDiePie calls someone a "fucking n****r" during PUBG livestream

Giantbomb has spoken out against GG shit on podcasts too right?

They usually allude to GG goings on during podcasts and how stupid these people are, so their stance is pretty clear, but as policy they won't really talk about it directly. Just not something Jeff wants to touch frequently.

I just choked on my Pepsi

"Hello, my black friend! May I ask your opinion of PewDiepie saying the N-word? I want to post something online about it, but not have it be attached to my personal opinion."

"why yes you can. I'm a black guy™ and this doesn't offend me at all. They're just words and I have much more to worry about; like being a jackass."

It's fitting that, as the starting point of LPing, they're still a benchmark hard to beat.

I love most of their content. But like yeah the RPing at times could be a bit mean spirited(but it was a different era of the internet wasn't it), which can attract terrible fans. But by the looks of it, it didn't.

It's awesome to see Oney speak out against something. He's not exactly a model citizen though unfortunately.
None of the Youtube animators are, unfortunately. I don't know what's wrong with them. I mean, they're all white and male and young, so that's a reason for why they are such edgy tryhard shock jocks. The only decent Youtube animator I know is Jaltoid.

Well, people wouldn't know if they don't watch the full video, but the girl in the clip that Idubbz is talking about has 2.6 million subscribers and also has videos of her using the n-word and defending her use of it - "it means homeboy where I'm from" (or something like that). Youtube is generally trash.
I remember the video got posted here and got a lot of positive feedback.

and the trending gamer nominees are

-PewdiePie
-Boogie2988
-Colin Moriarty
- Jontron

Well I think Jontron takes this one easy tbh. He basically gets to call black people inferior, wants to secure a future for the white race™, and gets to come back a few months later like nothing happened.

can someone give me some good gaming channels to support? feel like its getting less and less lately... only ones i really keep up with is the Super best friends or Criken

Go all in on Easy Allies, they're all super nice and respectful. Sometimes a little to PG for my own tastes but i take it in these times.

I showed this very thread/pdp clip to a couple of my PC buddies that are black and they don't care. One response was "it's his constitutional right and it doesn't sound racist to me" and the other was something like "I'm a black guy and I just can't care anymore. I have my own problems to deal with as opposed to worrying about some Swedish guy saying the N word. Words only have power if you're sensitive and let them have power."

Reminds me of that "sincerely, the father" post on Steam.
Only less authentic.

I want to know what Geoff Keighley thinks of all of this.

Will toxicity in gaming even be addressed this year at the Games Awards?

Why would it? It's an award ceremony for the people who work in the games industry, not a place to discuss this issue, unless you're talking about the "Best Content Creator" bit.

You should listen to the beastcast. Alex in particular has no time for that shit.

Have you been to his channel lately? I watch his stuff frequently and although he never says anything blatantly racist, they make black characters just because "black people are funny" and he says things like "most of our viewers are autistic".

He just walks an extremely thin line.

idubbbz (and the whole filthy frank crew) tend to get a lot of positive feedback despite regularly saying and doing a lot of abhorrent things. I think there's a general disconnect where people like to believe they're playing a character whenever they're in front of a camera to distance themselves from it, which to a certain extent is probably true, but also...doesn't really matter. If the end result is you saying slurs into a camera, even if you're just doing it as part of some edge lord character performance, you're still doing it, it's still inexcusable, and no one on the other end can differentiate fake racism from real racism - which is why they also attract a bunch of racist fans who would say they totally aren't racist.

Most of these people are either anti-gg or have spoken up about this kind of stuff in the past.

What's Good Games

The day I find out the Easy Allies aren't good people is the day I give up on life

But seriously, I appreciate how family-friendly they keep it in a sea of edgy hardcore gamer content.

Considering the content they did in the past(which I admittedly find funny). I'm glad Slowbeef, Diabetus and even the RP fans are good people in this whole debacle.

Yea they definitely toned down the bully type content. Pretty glad they're good folks.

Honestly, I think there is a strong bias towards Something Awful content producers being decent people.

Here's an updated list.

It would have been a completely different context and would have completely changed this conversation

Sure, he would still be out of his lane to have said it, but the word that ends with the -a is a colloquial word similar to saying 'bro' when used by black people. The word ending with the -er is ALWAYS a racially charged insult in each and every context.

I don't care how many times people try to ignore that distinction, its obvious that you are and people keep looking through it.

If you think it's unfair that black people can use the word ending with -a and you can't then that's a different conversation that any amount of thought would have already answered. If your best friend calls their significant other 'baby' that doesn't give you the social permission to call their significant other "baby" as well. Your friend and their SO have a social contract that makes the use of that word non-awkward but that doesn't extend to anyone outside of them. Similarly, many black people that collectively agreed to a social contract that makes it non-awkward for them to use a modified term as a term of endearment, but only when it is used amongst themselves. At the same time, if you know a black person that is okay with you using either word to them that doesn't extend that social contract to anyone else.

You have every other word in the language, just not this one.

Because nigger in the context is used it in was absolutely racist, rather than casually dropping nigga. He was frustrated and upset at whatever player he was targeting, so decides to reduce him to a "nigger" to be insulting. Nothing more needs to be said.
That's the thing using the word with any variant is still going to be racist as some people(like me) with take offensive to the ga ending whilst some wouldn't.

My point is I don't see why the ga version needs to be continually highlighted as the one that was not said given it's still a word that is offensive to people and is not universal accepted when another race uses it. Context doesn't really change the reaction from people.

So many of them don't actually do cartoons anymore. Apparently youtube made it hard to make money off of short cartoons and then you find out they'e not so great as people.

Like I still like Egoraptor, but he only does Game Grumps now.

Damn, what did Boogie do?

Basically he defended Jon Tron (maybe he did something worse I don't recall). Something like: "I don't agree with the guy, but it isn't that big of a deal".

Yea it's not like similar award ceremonies like the Oscars or Emmys are ever used to have individuals speak up on issues.

Oh wait.

IIRC, they came out when GG got big and said they kept quiet for a while because they didn't want to give any credence to it, but felt like they eventually needed to say something and therefore did so.

Combined with the "award" they gave Palmer Lucky and numerous comments from Jeff on his Tumblr, as well as comments on their podcasts, their position on all of this is very clear and consistent, and they're on the right side fortunately.

AFAIK, he never said "that fucking ni..er", or something like that that. When talking about it, he says it instead of "n-word".

I sometimes watch SidAlpha's content, as he deals with DMCAs quite a bit. However, his video today was so focused on Campo Santo abusing the DMCA that he ended up giving PewDiePie a free pass. Saying things like that PewDiePie "accidentally said the n-word" and that Campo Santo is taking down the video because PewDiePie said something "they didn't like". It all just feels icky. SidAlpha may be an okay guy, but this makes me question how he really feels about people of color...

As far as I am concerned, it should be pretty fucking hard to "accidentally say the n-word".
