PewDiePie calls someone a "fucking n****r" during PUBG livestream

GAF is going to GAF I guess, I shouldn't even say anything because if I said so I will be treated as "racist piece of crap"
Oh hey, I remember you defending Pewdiepie during the whole Nazi thing.
That they don't share it it's okay, Disney can't get the crowd they want with current PDP so what they made was fine.

Youtube surprised me more since PDP was the golden goose and Scare PDP 2 was ready to be launched, they coulda just put all episode and not renew the show for season 3. And make the money.

The media just blew up everything out of proportion because they want the juicy click and the context for them is boring and won't bring any visit to their pages, better spice it.

And that's you. When I'm actually doing a generalization of various posters and outside reactions.
If Youtube closes his channel they will have to close at least a hundred more of the known Youtube channels because they make jokes as offensive if not even more offensive than the ones PDP made.

You want Youtube to lose their revenue?

But it seems like if you defend him now, you might be deemed as a racist? I wonder why that is...

Some of y'all need Jesus in your life.

With the internet making fun of religion and how science and technology facts>faith and belief, this generation is so full of apathy.
You can accept hard cold knowledge while acknowledging that faith is something else that allows humans to continue to put their heart and belief into it.

Growing up in a religious household allows me to connect with people and showing empathy to them, and being respectful to other and treating them fairly.
Sure, you don't need religion to be a good person.
But it helps due to the routine teaching and the everyday community you are always interacting with.

However, the internet and technology have disconnected us in real life.
Most of us rarely go to Sunday Church or religious events, we stay at home.
We don't even interact with other humans unless they are our family and co-workers. Even if we do interact, we stare at our cellphone most of the time.
Watching Netflix, HBO, NFL, playing games on console/pc and just simply enjoying the digital lifestyle.
So many of ours youths just go online to troll and being respectful to people by creating endless racist memes.

I don't really see the connection with religion, and your rant kinda came out of nowhere lol, but you do make a point.

Kids are constantly immersed in an oftentimes unfiltered internet world where nasty shit gets said with no repercussions. Not a great environment for a kid to grow up in. I guess that falls on the parents to monitor where it is their kids go on the internet, but its such a vast place, that that can be a hard task to keep them completely out of the line of fire of inappropriate websites/personalities.

Gamegrumps are pretty good. It's never gone on record as to why Arin and Jon seperated but, I think you can reach a conclusion with Jon's behavior. Arin did some slightly racist animation stuff a looong time ago. Dan seems like a perfectly good dude.

Glad to hear it, some of Arins stuff back in the day might have been a bit dodgy but he definitely seems to have grown up and moved passed that and like I said some of their banter might be a bit close to the bone but there's nothing wrong with that and I don't feel they ever cross a line I'm just glad knowing they're both good guys.

Guys! I have an opinion that I think people won't like, but you all don't like anything so I'll keep my opinions to myself. Not gonna tell you what I think about this situation but mannnnnnnn you guys will hate just about anything that's said here, amiright or amirox?1!1!1!1!1!111one

Lmao true, except these morons can't keep it to themselves, instead they jump on their alts and post cowardly shit.

ps: I AM NOT supporting pewdewpie, I am just saying that a lot of people still follow him. I don't even watch the dude and I find his remarks deplorable. He has 58 M followers on youtube. have people stopped following him after that remark? I can;t find that info. I would stop following him if I were a subscriber

He covers a niche market but add Quill18 to the good guy list. My absolute favourite youtuber, has taught me how to actually play EU4 and CK2 and just seems a nice guy all round.

Please no one tell me if he has done something shitty (well do but it will break my heart)

One small thing I've discovered from this is that some people have apparently dedicated their time to going through every response to tweets condemning this shit, finding the ones that echo that condemnation, and then actively trying to shame each and every one for doing so.

I feel like there's some kind of irony to it but it's just kinda sad and hilarious.

Why do people continually defend these internet personalities?

to be honest I don't understand why anyone defends them or goes after them like in this thread. I don't get why anyone cares about people like him or his opinions. Seems like time better spent on people who actually have power to change things in society, not some Internet personality that has little to no effect on anything :/.

I don't really care for him, but i really don't care enough about him to be mad he is a racist either? I clicked on the thread mostly confused to why it was so popular lol.

Guys, Gaf, Friends...

"PDP did nothing wrong" is what I would say but I know you all will be like, "booo he's racist" so I'm just not going to say anything :\

Patrick "Patrick Klepek" Klepek fucking going in: https://waypoint.vice.com/en_us/art...d-because-he-was-angry?utm_source=wptwitterus

Mark pointed to the fact that Denmark's history with slavery doesn't go as far back, didn't grow up around decades of racial oppression, and went largely unexposed to the deep and systemic poverty that often plagues minority communities. These were his reasons for a cultural disconnect from such a powerful word. It became "just another foreign bad word to us, no different than fuck or shit."

"My point is," he said, "I think it would be foolish of me to say that I'd ever be capable of fully understanding the weight of the word when I've never truly experienced these things. That is probably why my gut doesn't feel the same way when I hear/say that word as yours does."

That's rationalization, not an explanation. You should know better, and so should PewDiePie.

As I said on Twitter, the idea that you "accidentally" say slurs of any sort while streaming to thousands of people just doesn't just happen. PewDiePie isn't an amateur; he's a professional who makes millions of dollars each year while playing and streaming games, and one who's routinely got in trouble for trotting out botched attempts at anti-political correctness satire as humor. He knows what it means to perform for an audience, a tightrope of playing a character and yourself. But instinctual moments like this can reveal the ugliest parts of yourself. If, "in a heated moment," you use a racial slur, that's part of who you are.

In replacing "nigger" with "asshole," PewDiePie reveals his own disgusting, if rationale, logic: the two words hold equal weight, there's just one you're not supposed to say in public. Oops!

The thing is, it is possible to say something racist without being a racist, but just because your mouth shits it out without fully internalizing the ramifications and historical weight of the word, doesn't excuse those actions. It's your responsibility to do the hard work of recognizing why you chose to use that hateful world, why it's the one that came to mind in that moment.

It's true that racial slurs of all kinds and other hateful words are standard fare when playing online games, or surfing the Internet more generally. It's part of a mass normalization of ugly rhetoric, a cultural shift where we've become numb to words that would once make us wince, a decades-long form of cultural astroturfing to make racism seem normal in online spaces, a way of using shitposting to make sure spaces remain unsafe for people who aren't like them.

PewDiePie is a public figure who should know better—who does know better—and by acting this way, contributed to the normalization of a word that should hang heavy, a word that should remind us of the great historical injustices the world has served—continues to serve.

Holy shit the pull at the end there. Amazing.

More on-topic: I genuinely don't get how people say there's a middle here. It's a goddamn binary choice. You do the thing, you don't do the thing. In this case the thing you can do is use a word that has roots in being incredibly offensive and has never been used in a positive light (by white folk at least). If you don't want to hurt someone, you don't say the word. That's... kinda it. There isn't much room for nuance there.

I heard a saying once and I think it's usually pertinent to people in the center. You don't get to choose if your actions hurt someone or not. All you get to choose is if you care. People were hurt by this. Do you care?

I think the only truly incorruptible personality/force in gaming are the McElroys.

Like a pillar of warm hearted immaturity.

Because millions of kids listen to what this dumbass says and think it's alright to act like he does

They have to have a little edge I think. It's in the name and all. They do so much good these days that I think stuff that happened nearly a decade ago can be forgiven (and it wasn't that bad honestly)

Kids still watch him. That is why. Kids these days are growing up on Youtube content.

Because Christianity has always been about bettering other's causes and not using that merely as a front to take advantage of underserved people.

Jesus ain't the answer and never will be. Education is.

Okay?
How about both?
I am a Christian and understand science...Wow.
Yup, our Church is taking advantage of undeserving people right now even though I just left yesterday trying to help people due to Harvey.

This is what I mean. Yall need to stop doing this when people bring faith in.
I am out...
It is always the same thing, science this, education that. Faith isn't just about believing in something, it is there to emotionally support and encourage other to lend a helping hand.

You know why I don't use a mic in online games. Because of shit like what PewDiePie just said. You know what else? He is the biggest personality associated with gaming and he just normalized it.

I wonder why people are discussing it on neogaf.com where we also discuss why 60fps is the only acceptable framerate and why Naughty God are the best ever? 🤔

He's has 50 million subscribers or views or whatever. A lot of he viewers are younger children, and when they hear their favorite gamer YouTube guy casually throwing around he N word, it's not cool.

That's why it matters. If people don't care that he's a racist and uses such a hateful word so casually, then those people are a problem as well.

This threads so long cause alts keep popping up saying the same shit.

He didn't really support him, all he said was that he didn't really see the point

Yeah, but when that's all he had to say about the subject and didn't wanna speak out about JonTron literally saying that black people dilute the gene pool it makes me a little suspicious, you know?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's no definitive proof of him being a racist, but there's also no definitive proof of him NOT being one, either, so I don't think it's fair to list him along people like Retsupurae or TieTuesday who do speak out against this shit constantly.

PDP is a douche and I'd like to think this'll do it but I've got a feeling it won't.

What about Game Grumps? Arin and Dan seem like good guys, some of their patter can be pretty close to the bone and I remember Arin retweeting some anti-JonTron stuff back when Jon outed himself as an arsehole.

Have they done anything that'll make me stop watching them?

From my experience, Arin and Dan will occasionally put their foots in the mouths and take a joke too far since they also like to do offensive humor, but they're also willing to own up to it and apologize when called out about it.

Wonder what the big Twitch streamers have said/will say about this. Gonna guess the majority will pull a Boogie.

Lirik's hot take is basically that people get offended too easily now and both sides. Dr. Disrespect said that people are too sensitive and to "get over it". CobaltStreak doesn't care about what PDP said. Other than those, I haven't heard anything else.

Add to the list of not being a shitlord:

runJDrun - the son of John Witherspoon (pops from Friday, granddad from the Boondocks) needs a mention because the dude barely swears, plays a wide variety of games, and is just cool as shit.

I don't know how GAF feels about The Black Hokage and The Gaming Illuminaughty, but I think they're worth checking out.

LMAO. You do realize that a huge portion of these racist assholes are Christian, right?

Sigh...always the hate. Why can't yall look at the upside? Just once.
PDP is an atheist...okay?
Your comment is such a dumb assumption, but I don't go around and say that atheism promotes racism like you.
I accept atheism as I accept my faith.

I agree with some small sentiments here, but the fact that you believe religion and church services engenders any type of positivity whatsoever is telling of your ignorance. Most of the conservative right wingers who love the n word that I've met are avid church goers and extremely faithful. I'm an atheist and I despise that word and racism in general, but I also despise the narrow minded disposition of someone who somehow sees a correlation between ethics and religion; not only are they not related in the slightest, they seem to be diametrically opposed in terms of racial, sexual, and social equality.

I still can't get over the fact that we have YouTube and Twitch "celebrities"

Sure, but Critikal has constantly done a lot of good stuff like donating all of his Youtube earnings to charity and call out shitstains like Keemstar so I prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Sigh...always the hate. Why can't yall look at the upside? Just once.

I accept atheism as I accept my faith.

No one was even talking about religion til you went on your rant. What are you after? Like seriously, no one gives a fuck about christianity or atheism at this moment. We care about PDP being a piecw of human garbage. Do you have anything of value to add to the discussio or?

I still can't get over the fact that we have YouTube and Twitch "celebrities"

hqdefault.jpg

Twitch and Youtube celebrities are just like normal celebrities. We have average good people and absolute cunts.
The problem is now we have a new category of celebrities that we have to sort through and learn whose shit and whose good.

Sure, but Critikal has constantly done a lot of good stuff like donating all of his Youtube earnings to charity

I know, but you can do good things and still be a racist. All I'm saying is that I find him suspicious when it comes to that topic and it isn't fair to put him on the same level as people who do dare speak out against racism from big name YouTubers.

It's okay if you do trust him tho, as I said there's no definitive proof. He just gives me a bad feeling; I don't like that he only mentioned the JonTron issue to say that Yooka Laylee devs dropping his ass was pointless.

Sigh...always the hate. Why can't yall look at the upside? Just once.

Lazy Game Reviews and Pushing Up Roses are both fantastic Youtubers that couldn't be more cuddly and safe. I have no personal worries of either pulling a Milkshake Duck,

OH I remember Roses from TGWTGs she did stuff with a guy named PAW IIRC, she was always fun. I also forgot Caddicarus in my last post.

Please...stop making that assumption.
Religion doesn't make them racist.

I am a minority for goodness sake.
The world is full of minority...religion is a global thing. Christianity doesn't just mean in America only.

You can't just "correlate" America right wings with all of us.
I am just saying that with religion, some of yall can interact with the community at large with ease and be surrounded with people who want to help.
But no, we are all right now typing and chatting online.
That is all I am saying. Yall just want to always want to bring down religion for no good reason...sigh.

What has atheism and religion got to do with this discussion? What are you even talking about?

It is the trend I keep seeing. People defending racism and stuff online.
This generation youths are so into the digital life, they can't see the social and political impact in real life with all the hate memes and casual racism they spew online.
I was just brining up faith because of how real life interaction with our community helps us more by becoming a better person.
I even said that yall don't need faith to be a better person in my post.
It is just easier since you have access with other people in the community.
