My theory has always been that racists are terrified when they see backlash against racism because it makes them worry that they'll be next. I don't think the "Hail Felix" people after his Nazi joke debacle were fans (although I'm sure he's got plenty in his fandom), they were people who felt empowered seeing a racist stand up for himself, so to speak.

What a weird time we live in, where a host is saying the name "pewdiepie" straight faced and unironically. And that person is watched by millions and earns millions by recording himself playing video games. Man.
Back on the specific topic, this kind of casual racism has been around as long as I've been alive. Being half white (and asian), I've heard this and worse in casual conversations by white, black, asian, and latino families - I guess because I'm technically none of them I can be trusted as one of them, in their thinking. Even in subsets, like racism against Italians by Irish, against Filipinos from Koreans, or against Mexicans from Puerto Ricans, and vice versa.
The only thing we can do is speak out against it when we see it, and raise our kids better.
As for pewdiepie fuck that guy. Many people he casually slanders as "nigger" are out there being doctors, paramedics, cops, firemen, accountants, scientists, you know, being productive to society. That racist turd gets wealthy by playing games. He has no right to slander anyone else.

Where their sympathies lie reflect the reality they live in, and their reality is that they're more likely to be labelled a racist than they ever will suffer due to racial prejudice.
For this reason, in events like these you always have people come out the woodwork saying stuff like, "I don't think you can say that's *really* racism", "But they have <x> friends", or my favorite, "Intent matters" when you hear jack shit about how terrible the *victims* have it.
Case in point, just comb through this thread and look at how any posts fall under the categories I put forth.

It wasn't even a dead cancer kid joke, it was a dead racist kid joke. Obviously no one thinks children should die of cancer, but one whose dying wish is for others to respect his racism? That's someone whose views won't be missed. That was the point of the joke. This hypothetical child could have been dying of anything and the joke still works as commentary on bad racist views.
