From what I've seen, DirectGAF either gets their hopes up too high or (on occasion) sets their expectations to a minimum. It's looking like we're flying towards the sun & opting for the former.

Directs are the exception, they warrant excitement since they often deliver.

I'm expecting a "WiiU classics" initiative. Every Nintendo WiiU game is going to be ported to Switch and available "right now" on the eShop.

This is going to take 5 minutes to announce, with the rest of the Direct being Metroid Prime 4 gameplay with no commentary.

I think it's reasonable.

Last time we did the latter and got a new Yoshi, a new Kirby, a new Pokemon, and TWO new Metroid games announced in a 25 minute direct.

I'd say it's justified this time.

People are still riding the hype that was the January 2013 direct. I think that one set the bar and people have expected that level since then.

Prediction: Mario Odyssey presentation reveals that each world has its own matriarch ruler and one of them will be a new incredibly hot dark skinned woman, so that every Nintendo franchise has at least one now.

F-Zero SX announced, main art prominently features Kate Alen.

Directs are great because they directly get to the point. This one is also 45 minutes long. There will be some juicy stuff

F-Zero SX? Come on. F-Zero NX.

Lets see
My wishlist:

-Metroid Prime Trilogy HD - Possible here
-Super Mario Maker 2 - Not happening would be an E3 thing
-RE4 HD - possible but I think Capcom might wait for the other RE Switch to come out first
-The Disney Afternoon Collection - should be already on Switch
-Retro's new game revealed/teased - Not Happening here could happen in a ND early next year, but likely E3
-VC reveal and details Maybe
-Super Mario Odyssey (new details and worlds revealed)

It would be really cool to hear about some bigger system update for the Switch. Wish that record feature was ready to go.

oh god, I forgot about that

I think they said it's coming this year when they showed off the capture button at the Switch presentation

I need that record feature for Splatoon asap

2K is veryvery stupid if they don't get that Borderlands collection on Switch soon.

Question- has it been discussed that the My Nintendo rewards site now has a section for Nintendo Switch Rewards and a note saying "Coming Soon"? Unless it's a recent change I must have missed the thread on that.

Anyway, what are the chances that the Switch My Nintendo Rewards open up after the Direct? I think we're due for an OS update so I think it's kinda likely.

DirectGAF has the amazing ability to, somehow, do both at once.

I myself expect absolutely nothing but deep disappointment. I uneagerly anticipate watching the first ten minutes, then the next ten, and the next ten, and then realizing how little time is left for something I might want before coming to the final realization nothing exciting is being announced. I will then climb into my coffin and close the lid. Neiteio will nail it shut.

But, simultaneously, my imagination is reeling with the possibility of something wonderful. However infinitesimally small the likelihood of a megaton is, I have a disproportionately passionate enthusiasm for its announcement. There is a .00001% chance a new Super Smash Bros will be announced? Well GET ON THE TRAIN! A NEW SMASH BROS MIGHT BE ANNOUNCED TOMORROW!

To simultaneously prepare yourself for the almost guaranteed disappointment and the virtually impossible thrill at the same time is symptomatic of an obsession only Nintendo can inspire. It is a disease. A sickness. An addiction.

I hope we get lucky. But, then again, leave luck to heaven.

I dont think they will announce a huge new 1st Party game right before their Holiday lineup comes out

No Retro Studios game is showing up

I could see them announce Smash port but not a new Smash

I expect something like Kid Icarus Uprising 2 Switch

They announced only five games at E3 tho, even the April Direct had more.
Yeah but Metroid Prime 4 is the equivalent of 50 games.
My wishlist:

-Metroid Prime Trilogy HD
-Super Mario Maker 2
-RE4 HD
-The Disney Afternoon Collection
-Retro's new game revealed/teased
-VC reveal and details
-Super Mario Odyssey (new details and worlds revealed)
MP Trilogy? I'd explode. That's 150 games.

I saw a lot of concern trolling for the E3 showcase so who knows.

Yeah the E3 thread when we learned it'd be 25 minutes was incredibly silly. Lots of "half of it will be Splatoon 2/ARMS", "oh so that might be 25 3DS games announced then?", "watch them demo Mario Odyssey for 10 minutes showing us how to jump and that Peach has been kidnapped again", "25 minutes, how can they do *anything* in 25 minutes?"

Like wow it was a thing alright.

Objectively speaking, the E3 direct wasn't exactly a barn burner. It was largely saved thanks to the surprise announcements of Prime 4 and Pokemon, which were barely announcements at all. Not to say the games they had to show looked bad, but the lineup for 2018 is almost non-existent at this point, so one would hope they will have a lot to announce between this direct, and a potential big one in January. As it stands they have 3 confirmed 2018 Switch games, and another two (Prime & Pokemon) that could also make 2018. Of those, we only have video of Kirby and Yoshi, and even if all 5 of those games made it next year, that lineup is still quite small.

The rest of this year is already so packed that they could show nothing new and I'd still be okay lol. My Switch and 3DS are going to get some ridiculous playtime in the coming months

I think you haven't visited My Nintendo since March.

As long as I get some good USM info I'll be content. I think I'm the only person on GAF who even cares, though.

I'm cool with US/UM in theory but I feel like we still barely know much about it. It's an alternate storyline yeah, but what's that mean? Same characters? Different events? How different? Some kind of funky spin? I hope we get more info.

Either give me Gamecube VC or Prime Trilogy/Paper Mario TTYD/F Zero GX as remasters.

And I'm repeating myself but ffs Capcom if you don't bring Okami HD on there there's gonna be a riot.

i only played dark moon last year and i was blown away. the ghost dog is the best thing of all time. I love it more than the original. What is people's complaints about the game?

For me, it was just less interesting than the original. I liked the idea of a mansion where all of these humans lived and interacted with each other before they became ghosts. Neville and his family lived in the west wing. There was a creepy butler who loved a girl named Melody. A fortune teller who now wants to atone for her sins in life took up residence in that house. And you can go into the Gameboy Horror and read bios on all these people. Much more appealing to me than missions, generic looking ghosts, and spiders and stairs as bosses.

I'm always hyper hyped, even if the Direct ends up being so-so, Directs are special occasion to dream of what we want (and don't)

I'm excited, but at the same time I'm not expecting anything specific. So at worst, I'll be slightly underwhelmed. I think the Direct will at least be decent, though.

MPT HD seems like something Nintendo should consider pursuing. It might be a good long while until Prime 4, and the trilogy could be used to simultaneously build hype and refresh players. Would make for a great gap filler in their lineup.
