Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2017 (Sep 04 - Sep 10)

Now I just noticed that Retro still hasn't revealed whatever it is they are making...

Reveal at the Nintendo World Championships 2017 in October?

That or we're waiting next year for E3.

Arena of Valor is rather important but it may be a more of extended Asian market importance than for Japan.

Good Direct though but it does leave Japan with nothing in November and Xenoblade 2 for December. Just missed Minecraft retail but I suspect they are waiting for BT to go live.

Is the Switch even out in China ? This was the weirdest announcement from the Direct, like, isn't that supposed to be a super-huge deal to have a console exclusive Tencent game ?

Only officially released in Hong Kong since launch back in March 3rd.

It's not really weird for an announcement when we've had mobile devs porting their mobile games to Switch since day one.

That's one thing that looked a good possibility for December. Since it wasn't announced today it likely goes for next year.

Maybe we must say good bye to Mario & Sonic series, at least for these Olympics.
Yeah,Minecraft retail version would be a perfect title for holiday,it's still weird that it's not going to be released this december. But if it is goig to be released in January next year,it could also be a good spring title along with Kirby

I mean, yes, that why I said it was important. Nirolak can give exact numbers if necessary (and I think he did for the thread about it) but this game is massive.

And while its not LoL for Korea/EU/NA, it is a good game to have to potentially tap such a big market.

They probably want too. Though, with the current supply issues, probably don't want to complicate things.

Switch has been doing better than expected in Hong Kong, but its not out in China or Korea, the bigger moba markets in Asia.

Not like it isn't coming out there though, Tecent probably wants to properly introduce their games in the west and Switch might' been the easiest choice, they could potentially help Nintendo out in China.

What is coming out later this year is a beta anyway.

I guess? The thing is, the version of Arena of Valor played in China (王者榮耀) is totally different from the international-localised one in terms of the available heroes. So even if it was out in China, the version coming out on Switch likely isn't what that market would want.

Indeed it is very massive in China, but the one in China itself is essentially a separate entity from Arena of Valor. The base gameplay is the same of course, but I would be surprised if they were able to find a way to tap into the much larger userbase in China. If not, why play this over LoL or even the version of AoV already on smartphones?

Hong Kong Switch doesn't even have Chinese UI. Gog knows when Nintendo will be ready for mainland China and Korea.

Having a big game to tap a market is better than having no game to tap a market, that was my overall point.

And Switch has seemingly found an audience receptive to mobile games, so someone wants these options.

And I'm inclined to agree, it's just this particular title seems like it will be something of a niche item, especially compared to what Tencent is doing with it domestically.

Regardless, I'll be happy if I can just finally play it with proper controls.

Maybe Nintendo wants to tackle the SEA market, not only China, but Arena of Valor is actually a really famous mobile game in my country, they could use that game to attract mobile users to the console

On the topic of Japan and devs.

I genuinely have no idea what Capcom is doing at this point, this is now beyond "oh we weren't prepared". Bethesda is porting over two (three?) major AAA games, sports games are showing up, we're seeing SE ramp up and even brought over the Phyre DQB1 (Octopath's demo is sublime), and outside of Bamco we're seeing most of the market slowly showing up on the Switch. But then I look at Capcom, and I have no idea what is even going on any more. Neither of the Collections (still) and Okami is missing it too. Wolfenstein and Doom, but not platformers and a Zelda clone. Like... wtf?

If MHW is delayed, I am just going to assume the company has no resources left at this point.

I think its one of those sleeper important announcements, but time will tell. It is still very good for the system to have a straight MOBA.

Yeah not to beat a dead horse, but Capcom and Level 5 are really standing out. Although I can kind of see where Level 5 is coming from since I assume most of the 3DS audience hasn't transitioned over yet. Like you say, the Capcom stuff seem like no brainers and nothing that would require any sort of insane commitment to the system.

I admit I am not very familiar with it outside of the Chinese market, but is the international version big in SEA? Or are people playing the Chinese version (hard to imagine outside of places like Malaysia or Singapore).

Even ignoring the Switch, L5 and Capcom stand out for not so good reasons.

Considering how fast the switch userbase is growing the argument that the whole 3DS userbase hasn't transitioned over is losing steam quickly. By the end of the year the switch will have sold 3+ million and may well be looking at 8+ million next year. The 3DS userbase hasn't totally transitioned yet but it's happening very quickly and I would think this is when you would want to be jumping on board.

There's little to no incentive for the people playing it on phones to drop whatever a switch costs in their country to play the same game though... everyone owns a phone and the game is made around touch controls anyway.

I am not looking at L5 because, right now, they are just straight out in a pit for *everything*. Their mobile initiative has floundered and they have projects delayed into the Neverending Story.

They didn't launch in Korea?
I thought they actually did Korean stuff.
Pokémon does a bunch of stuff in Korea.

The Korean branch of Nintendo was heavily downsized and I think it got absorbed by Nintendo Hong Kong.

That's why there isn't any notable Switch support for Korea or any indication of when the Switch will launch there.

Is Nintendo going to have games in H1 other than Yoshi and Kirby?

Cutting it a little close here...

Maybe it will be like Mario+Rabbids and get announced 3 months prior to release (except this time, it's not leaked for 8 months beforehand).

Not sure they can keep up the momentum with just Yoshi and Kirby.

Odds on Nirolak being right about whatever this years expected Tales of showing up Sony's TGS presser went up significantly.

Kirby + Japan = success. Also expect a Direct early into next year to do much as this one did, outlining the remainder (start) of the year.

Oh, so says Kirby ;)

There's also Mario + Rabbids in January for what it's worth.

But yeah, I expect we'll see another direct in January or so

I just see Arena of Valor coming to Switch lol. And i just mentioned that Ninty need moba to come to Switch lol. Me prophet now?^_^

so, after the Direct, would you guys share your mind about Japanese third parties on Switch?
My take on the matter is well known and after today...

My take is the same as it always was. Japanese third parties will eventually target Switch as their primary platform because they can't afford not to.

All other concerns are inconsequential in the face of that simple fact.

Oh, so says Kirby ;)

The series is a consistently strong seller in japan, and targets a demographic that is still likely not all-in on the Switch so it can help maintain a good momentum for growing diverse audiences.

Yoshi is similar but a weaker brand.

Seeing DQB1 on Phyre getting ported to the Switch says a lot.

The new Fire Emblem could be an early/Spring 2018 game. Hopefully a worldwide release.

I am teasing you about your avatar.

I thought the smiley gave it away, sad.

Kirby is launching before Yoshi, I'm surprised.

same, I'm glad. Not into that Yoshi game and I thought it was going to be earlier since it had a live Demo.

Also, need octopath. I'm going to try out the trailer. Glad I bought a switch a few days ago despite getting no games lol

The direct was good. Bethesda came out of no where. Xeno looks great and is hitting 2017. Mario.....wow.

The only thing was I was surprised about was Zelda DLC hasn't gotten detailed yet

If XB2 can be a worldwide simultaneous release, I don't see why FE Switch can't. Spring 2018 seems a bit early though; we know jack shit about the game right now.

Switch isn't officially released in mainland china but there is heaps of stock in all the electronic malls. I've seen quite a few people on the subway and even a dude on the street in shanghai playing switch.

That's good to hear.

The mobile game Switch would REALLY want is Lineage 2 Revolution, since it's both a traditional MMO, and a top 3 mobile game both within and outside of Japan.

That said, Arena of Valor is an astronomically popular game in China specifically, and a very solid addition in general as far as mobile games that make sense on a handheld.

Mind, I wouldn't expect astronomical numbers for the Switch version by any means given I'm not 100% convinced this will actually play better with a gamepad than touch controls, removing a lot of the appeal of playing it there if you already have a smartphone.
