Is it me or UltraBeasts are an excuse to make cheap pokemon?
Also, anyone else thinks that UB's will never be mentioned again after this generation is over? That makes me thing that these new UB are disposable content.
They have zero character, so I can see them being included whilst quietly forgotten by everybody except a few. There's some great designs in Gen 7, the UBs are not one of them.

It's a small percentage of people that play competitively, though, and look at everything they've improved there over the years. Platinum's Battle Frontier could have just been rehashed time and time again with an occasional tiny tweak/addition and it'd still be better than what we have now.

They aren't disposable content. It can be useful once GF runs out of ideas, like they can make cuter versions of Dark Souls bosses and still call them Pokemon.

like a bulk of them have more personality than any given popular Pokemon, that buff mosquitoman is much more evocative than the generic fat fire lizard

Comments like this are ones that really make me convinced people spend zero time considering Pokémon designs outside of immediate first looks. The UBs are some of the most brilliantly executed designs in the series history.
The point of these Pokémon is to make one consider "What if Pokémon-like life developed in a universe with different properties and laws?" Everything about them delivers on this premise. They're creepy, over the top, unsettling monsters. Each UB has a very particular frightening design intensity to its aesthetic.
Their battle music brilliantly evokes this theme too. They're literally the Pokémon equivalent of those documentaries where scientists dream up what extraterrestrial life looks like on other planets.

I love the UBs. Some of the designs like celesteele gives me SMT vibes. Shame they didn't push some of the designs to be a bit grimmer. Love how weird they look
Anyone think Assembly is a computer science reference? Those blocks of eyes are kind of like a representation of block data with 1 and zeros or maybe I'm stretching this too much.

Not really. ORAS and XY Delta episode far >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>x1,000,000.
The Delta episode in ORAS had a story that involved using
Mega evolution so that the egg heads won't create a portal to a Hoen that doesn't have mega Evolutions in a different dimension and could end their existence. Where XY Delta Episode had a pretty cool character NPC side story
.
Delta episode in Sun/Moon involved Looker
busting through a door and yelling in a different language which meant you going to a different island just to catch a Ultra Beast. That's it. No mystery, no build up, and a payoff of a cool million and knowing you caught the Ultra Beast.

Who went around wasting people you've battle during the main game so that she can accomplish her goals of saving something no one else knew exist. The world isn't save or destroyed by nice people. Within the story she was written in she accomplished her goal.

Eh... so that's what you meant. I think her design is ok and for Game Freak she was done ok. Compared to how other companies would write a character like Zinnia I can agree.
The Delta Episode is fucking trash. Go here to this place you've been already, go there, fly here, fly there, talk to this person, battle these weak trainers, repeatedly. Your reward for this is Rayquaza and Deoxys I guess? Thanks, I think I would have preferred exploring a version of the Sky Pillar that wasn't completely gutted on my own.
