Powerpuff Girls add a fourth sister...

Plot summary for those who didn't watch:

  • Blossom and Buttercup start getting worried about Bubbles obsession with her imaginary friend Bliss and it's tiny pet elephant Me (cue a bunch of tired Who's On First style "comedy"), with them eventually just tying Bubbles up because they think she's dangerously insane
  • In the monster fight at the end of the 1st part (this is a 5 parter), Bliss finally reveals herself to the other sisters & the Professor while saving them from the episode's villain.
  • It's revealed that Bliss was the result of a previous attempt by Utonium to create "the perfect little girl" 10 years ago that got tainted with Chemical W (Utonium also had issues with Chemicals A through V), and her powers (literally DBZ style "scream and explosions happen" type stuff) were too unstable and after injuring Utonium she left to live alone on a deserted island (which is where she met Me).
  • Initially Bliss is uncertain about being a super hero due to how little control she has over her powers, but eventually manages to get a hold of them with the other girls' help.
  • Despite this, the Professor still doesn't feel she should be out there with the rest of the team, driving a wedge between the two of them.
  • Me tries to turn Bliss against her family and is eventually revealed to be Him (cue more Who's On First shit), absorbs Bliss and starts wreaking havoc on Townsville, even going so far as to send Saturn on a collision course with Earth.
  • The girls eventually break Bliss free, Voltron their dumb Green Lantern aura shit into a giant PPG and beat Him
  • Bliss goes into space to re-align the planets after Him fucked them up.

So yeah, it was...meh.

My reaction:
Hehe
Hehehe
HEHEHEHEH
HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the pure time and effort that mustve gone into making the art style look far worse than a cartoon from the 90s. You can do anything you set your mind to!

Whoever posted that in your discord apparently. Dude is like a very typical 4chan shitheel. You really should've double checked before posting that link.

I mean, just because someone came across it doesn't mean they follow the guy. I just came across it in this thread, but I don't follow the guy.

So Professor Utonium had an earlier daughter who he not only never tries to find and help/interact, but who he pretends never existed?

Did they actually do this?

I just saw it posted and thought it was real since it had footage from the episode. I don't think the person that posted it in the chat even follows the guy.

Still my mistake tho

That was a 4chan hoax. He was a writter and the artists designed the character to resemble him as a joke. His script is horrible, but the avatar angle was bullshit.

Not so much a 4chan hoax as a 4chan false alarm.

Someone on 4chan observed what appeared to be a writer writing himself into PPG with the disturbing intent to ship himself with Blossom.

PPG staffers then explained that the writer merely wrote a random character who shipped with Blossom, and then PPG's staff played a joke on the writer by making this character look like a caricature of the writer himself, and then they all took the joke to creepy weird levels by then having the writer voice his own caricature.

4chan didn't make anything up (in this instance), and the real explanation would never have come to light if 4chan didn't notice it and ask "WTF?"

I mean, he already had a lab monkey that escaped after a dangerous experiment whom he never tried to help or find.

Original PPG is a great cartoon, but it's still a cartoon. And cartoons often include stuff that's kind of fucked up if you think about it, but is played for laughs.

The staff seriously didn't think people would see it being weird?

Yea for future reference. Motifa is basically a racial stereotype.

I don't think they thought anyone would notice (I mean, who out there even knows what writers faces look like, or notices who voices minor background characters?), and they were thinking more about the fun they were having screwing around with their fellow co-workers.

I think that's incredibly naive. You know people are attentive to any kind of information as in this case.

It's naive, but from what I've seen, pretty much everyone in the lower ranks of the entertainment industry doesn't see themselves as any sort of celebrity, just as regular people doing everyday jobs. Like, if "celebrity" has a scale of 1-10, if you ask them, they're not even zero. The scale simply doesn't apply to people at their low level, because they're not celebrities, at all.

They weren't thinking. They were just screwing around a little, while at work. They got noticed (because their celebrity level is higher than they realize). Whoops.

Literal Poochie.
Story's even the same. "Ratings are flagging, make a new character despite years of using the same 3 and promote the fuck out of it"

I've never seen the new powerpuff girls and probably never will but she looks alright. I wish she was a character in the original series it just makes me think how cool it would have been to have a black powerpuff girl back then.

I actually thought it was a pretty cute episode (first time watching this reboot as I was bored and nothing else on) though I also think Teen Titans Go is cute when it's not being overly crude so what do I know... haha (Still miss the original :( )

Don't let angry fandoms convince you that TTG isn't hilarious.

I'm referring to the first twenty seconds of the original show's opening theme song. The bit that explained the Powerpuff Girls' origin story at the start of every episode?

I'm not trying to be like the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons about the whole thing- frankly I'm willing to give this odd special a chance once I watch it for myself. I'm just noting that the distinction that Bliss is their older sister who was the result of basically the exact same accident as theirs however long prior to their "birth" comes off as acting in contradiction to that origin story the show always used to use as its opening hook for audiences to get into the show.

It's the closest thing to "lore" in the show out there.

I mean even in a show with the most basic of characterizations this team managed to make me question the single trait Professor Utonium is known for

Being a loving father (New Writers Edit: Who is totally okay with treating her older daughter like shit because she too OP)

The reboot had utter lowest common denominator writing so adding another primary character does not surprise me at all.

Wow, I actually predicted most of this.

The new show just isn't good. Every episode just reminds me of Dexter's Lab's final season. Powerpuff Girls Z is actually better than this.
