Gran Turismo Sport Previews

Honestly, I don't even care if the campaign is a bit light, I just want to know what exactly is locked behind PS Plus. The Japanese box has a label on it that says "Online-only" (オンライン専用) but that seems absurd.
If you don't have PS+ then I don't think GTS is really the game you're looking for. GTS is built around online racing.

Keeping Things Fair — Staying Connected

This year's Gran Turismo includes a world first — the only video game with an online Championship endorsed by the world's motoring governing body, the FIA. As a competition endorsed by the same organization that oversees some of the biggest races in the world we're taking racing integrity very seriously for the FIA GT Championship.

In order to ensure fair racing for all, GT Sport will require an internet connection for the majority of functionality. This connectivity requirement is to ensure that progress, car availability, and driver ratings are properly maintained at all times.

PlayStation Plus will only be needed for online multiplayer. Portions of the Arcade Mode, including limited two-player split screen, single-player races on select tracks, and time trials can still be played in an offline environment.

For regular games, PS Plus locking is always when u want to play with real humans (multiplayer). In GTS context, Sport Mode and normal Multiplayer are expected to requiring you a Plus.

I think Sony understand they fucked the pooch and then some with the hardcore audience for the game, they genuinely don't seem to be bothering which is fucking amazing. During the Asia conference shit like COD was getting promoted but not GT Sport? Fuck me, what a mess up.

Sony will just advertise GT Sport on TV to hell and back soon enough, they will not skimp out on that but man oh man this game has me worried when Sony are sweeping it under the rug. Still got it pre-ordered and will pick it up day 1 but shit, have they even shown weather yet?

Why even invite the hardcore to nitpick and shit on the game, it happens every time with GT. Doesn't have [feature x from game y] or [another feature from game z], repeat for every niche feature from forever.

Suzuka full race in broadcast mode. These flickering shadows need fixing but the game looks gorgeous

Even the ingame fanbase have been driven away by this mess of a game :(

Definitely the Suzuka 2014 track of the PS3 version with some removals and other minor tweaks for the worse.

They've got all the other real world tracks of the PS3 version lined up and ready to go via DLC. Absolutely disgusting.

@wax All the returning tracks received the same treatment. New lighting, improved track side detail and higher rez textures. Pretty normal but yeah the GT6 tracks better be free.

Yeah, was about to comment about that.

Suzuka doesnt look too hot, I mean apart from the updated trees, the tack looks very GT6 in terms of lighting. (kinda washed out).

Will have to wait for direct feed to confirm.

Oh, this is why you have stopped recently referring to GT Sport as "GT6 PS4".

Probably you are ready to downgrade it even more to just "GT6 PS3".

That's a confusing mess if I've ever seen one. The "only online multiplayer" part I get, that's basically how all PS Plus stuff works, but then why is two-player mode "limited" and how are the single-player races only on "select tracks"? Are there online-only tracks?
GT6 Course Maker tracks could only be used while online, as weird as that sounds. Of course, Course Maker hasn't even been hinted at for GT Sport (and we are three weeks away from the release).
No idea on Limited split-screen. I was thinking about online split-screen but, again, they never talked about this.

So yeah, a very confusing mess. Maybe something went wrong during the translation.

So Wax is still posting bullshit screens of GT games? You remember you got banned for posting faked GT screenshots not long ago, right?

You have issues, dude.

I've been absolutely hammering Sport. It'll sell pretty poorly for a GT game, it'll review the worst in the series so far and the gutting of all the SP content whilst still asking for $60 is an absolute joke. Kaz either has to step down to a secondary role, or Sony Japan needs to expand PD as a studio whether Kaz wants it or not. GT has been completely mishandled and the competition is starting to make aspects of GT look embarrassing.

However, using YouTube screen caps is just all sorts of... PS3 era console wars tbh.

Still shitting on the game in here?

I for one am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

GT has always had the worst, most unbalanced boring campaign of any racing game I've played.

Anything different can only be good imo.

Good old WFV, fighting the good fight. Your not buying it so move on son. This obsession you have with GT is very unsettling...Your not getting it, yet here you still are...

After reading all this stuff it appears they marketed the game incorrectly. It is essentially a PSN iracing game. They really should have used a different name than GT or made it iGT Racing or something. They want to focus on that part of the old game so be it. It just is not the part I liked. I can see why they have put so much in this because they are not looking at the ps4, ps4 pro or perhaps even the ps5. They want it so those who love online racing can just pick up a console bundled with some wheels and their software and go. I get it.

It's just not what I want. I am a bloody causal racer. Do not want to have to work hard at this nor get my head handed to me continuously. If I want stress I will go to work. With so many racing game options out there now it's not an issue, Polyphony is trying to specialized and good luck to them.

So you want GT, the most popular racing franchise to name itself after an obscure one because? Iracing is not the first racing game to do online racing you know.....All PD has said is that this GT will be online focused, they said it from day one tbh....

Pretty sure that's Mario Kart...

...by an absolute country mile.

I just really think GT has had it's day; awful UI, lengthy load screens, hodgepodge graphics, antiquated structure, terrible sound effects and that laughable pan handle chase cam just scream "out of touch".

I loved it, like REALLY loved it back in the day, but it's just old hat now. Far too many better options out there nowadays, whatever you're looking for in a racer. It hasn't moved with the times and feels like a relic, struggling to remain relevant. Such a shame.

Exactly how i feel about GT. My love for A-Spec knew no bounds, and it has been a gradual, step-wise decay in that feeling (co-mingled with various frustrations) ever since. Maybe one day Kaz or Sony will come to their senses and read the writing on the wall, but if it keeps selling, you can bet your ass there won't be any soul-searching happening.

Literally every single point you made is wrong.

What made it so amazing in the past? What do you feel is lacking other than the traditional campaign from GTS? And what do you want GTS to have (besides the traditional campaign)?

Which of the things bolded do you feel apply to GTS?
And what, in your opinion, is staying with the times in the racing Sim genre?

I mean, it's possible it will sell and review worse than other GT games but there's also a chance people will like the change and it will review and sell very well. Lots of games have a big online focuse these days, with little or no Single Player modes and still review and sell well.

But all the Single Player hasn't been gutted, as GT Sport still has plenty of Single Player content too, Arcade Mode + Campaign Mode with 150+ events. Funny how people keep saying it has no single player, just because it's different from past games or not exactly what they want. It also has great graphics, realistic car handling / physics and a solid online mode (providing there are no server issues)

For me, GT Sport is looking like a solid 8/10 game. It's not perfect, docking a few points for the missing career and less cars / tracks than past games but I also think it will be a more focused game and the content that is there will still be very good. I won't ignore the good stuff it does just because it hasn't got a traditional career mode.

It's a fresh start for GT, getting rid of all stuff people complained about for the last few games and it should be a solid foundation to build on, over the next few years before they move on to GT7 or whatever the next game is, probably on PS5.

I'll be right back here to eat my words if I'm wrong. Sometimes when there is smoke there is fire, though. Plus, the last 10 years for GT hasn't been all non-stop praise. PD have been on a path of struggling since coming off the PS2 era. The dev cycle lengths haven't been getting better. No, I don't want a yearly GT, but the length of time it has taken to get out a cut down version of what GT traditionally was isn't all that impressive.

That was after the the backlash when people feared there would be no campaign etc...Of course GT has to cater to it's fans too, but the message on an online GT was there from early on....

You think there could perhaps be a FIA online mario Kart anytime soon? How about Nintendo's online infrastructure...how's that holding up....You think such a game would take off..?..Also, what numbers did the last MK do. Of course I've never felt to compare MK to a sim, but since you have, it would be neat to know the details anyway.

As for the belly of your point......The thing about GT, is that no matter what PD did, there would be detractors because it's at the throne of sim sales, has lots of pull in the auto industry and so naturally, some people feel they just don't jive with Kazunori's current vision, some people feel Kaz should be fired and that they have all the bright ideas, yet, GT continues to outsell every other sim. So perhaps said persons have the confidence of Cliffy B and belive their vision and outlook on things is supreme, but I think I'll take Kaz's vision on this one...

As a GT player though, I've heard so many complaints about sunday cup grinding, weak A.I, the campaign needing an overhaul, 2D trees, no damage, no tire marks, the smoke is low rez, screeching tires, those physics hue hue hue.....the sound..lel...Do you believe that there will be any GT in production or released that's not going to get ire? It's the nature of the beast...At the end of the day, if GT is not for you, I guess you can stay away and let your wallet do the talking, but more importantly, you need to play those games you deem better or that has morphed the genre to racing nirvana...Too often I've heard people speak of numerous franchises in the genre that have evolved this and that, but instead of playing those brilliant pieces of code, they'd rather commune in GT threads and say how it's old hat...It's just strange to me is all...

Will there be an option to turn off most if not all of the HUD elements? I really find the HUD big, ugly, out of place and distracting.

Also, should I bother thinking of getting it if I don't have PS+?

What if all of this is wrong though? Would ppl then stop posting like they know what they are talking about...lol
No. It didn't stop with GT5. I remember before launch everyone saying it lost its crown. Then when it sold 5.5M they said it wouldn't continue to what GT traditionally has. I remember all the shit posting when GT5 was 700k NPD launch and now it's over 3M. People just don't realize that even the biggest one GT3 got most of its sells as a $20 greatest hits title. They've never done huge launch numbers but have legs that keep going.

Glad we agree then, that PD is making statements that this game isn't online focused and that not all of their statements have been talking about this being an online focused GT.

I have a different memory. Before launch we had news about weather, day night, damages, etc and were all surprised at the amount of content in the game. Quite the opposite of the current situation.

I said they made it clear from the beginning this would be online focused. I don't see how having a campaign detracts from that, seeing as they always had plans to have a campaign in it's current form and style...

Yeah, I played around going no hud in a few vids and I think you can remove the players name too.

If you're really into timed attacks, learning the proper way to drive a track or photomode I think it'd be worth it. If you're not really into those its probably a better move to get it cheaper later on.
