My plan of attack will probably be as follows:

Swing by the local 24 hour Best Buy after 9:30pm on Thursday, to see if they're having a midnight launch. If they are, I'll probably wait or return a bit closer to that time.
If not, either go to Best Buy or Nintendo NY Friday morning before work. Best Buy might be safer since Nintendo will probably be mobbed.

If that fails, I'll keep an eye on Nintendo NY's twitter for restocks, and go on a day off. They were getting stock of the NES classic every day at one point. I showed up one morning 30 minutes before opening and grabbed one.

How are you guys finding out the stock of your local Best Buy stores? If anybody has NYC metrics, they'd be appreciated.

So Yoshi's Island has a flaw in Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy where the tree background layer flashes off for a split second. Not sure if it's an emulation flaw or maybe the anti-seizure mechanism.

I believe it was stated earlier that it's an anti-seizure mechanism.

I wish they had an option to turn on/off anti-seizure graphical changes for the games. Most people do not get seizures playing games.

... by a forum member with hopes that it is a good will intentional measure and not just a “should we fix this? Nah, minor issue... people will not complain... why spend a lot of hours to fix something which will make us no extra money?” and nobody internally decided to put the foot down despite reasonable RoI arguments. This was one of the things that bugged me about the GBA port, hopefully the transparency effects with the bosses are still intact.

That was Jeremy Parish's speculation in the article that pointed it out.

I think Star Fox 2 would deserve an OT.
Definitely.
It's crazy to think of a original publisher finally releasing an unreleased game after 2 decades.

damn dude they're sending out A LOT of these things. I still can't quite tell if it'll be enough though.
I still expect people lining up like it was a real console launch and soon after people bitching on forums about how hard it is to find an in demand product.

I don't have enough time to make and maintain it, but I was thinking that one thread dedicated to game discussion only would be great, and controls questions like "how do you reset using just the controller (L R Select Start at the same time).

Then this thread could be reserved for finding stock, general praise/complaints about the console, regional differences, etc.

Consoles still being sold on eBay UK for £130-150... wonder if we will be seeing all the stock that has been promised.

So a little bit of hacking news.

The current version of hakchi2, the tool used to tinker with the NES Mini, is able to dump the kernel from the SNES Mini with zero modification and correctly write it back to the machine.

You can try writing the NES Mini kernel to the SNES Mini, but it does not turn it into a NES Mini. Instead, it errors out, and the light simply blinks. You can recover by flashing your SNES Mini kernel dump back to the machine.

The SNES Mini's stock kernel is 2,736,128 bytes, compared to the NES's 2,826,240 bytes.

Looking forward to hearing more but it’s all looking good on that front.

I wonder if the SNES mini uses the exact same SoC, and if its emulator can be flashed onto the NES/Famicom Mini.

I have locked down two pre-orders, one for 99 EUR, the other for 89 EUR (both from local shops). I planned to cancel it, but if anyone didn't get their preorder, I am willing to keep it and send it over to anyone who pays the whole price and shipping (should not be more than 10 EUR). Write me on private!

Speaking of these did Mega Man X ever get changed for VC etc? I believe it was the background of a certain stage is what caused a person to have a seizure and eventually their family took Nintendo to court and the warning screens were the result (which gets me thinking if the frame rate is different between PAL and NTSC then it could be possible some PAL versions of games could cause seizures while their NTSC counterparts could not and vice versa)

Can't remember which Mega Man X stage but I found an old GAF thread with a refreshing quote:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=145 said:
If GAF has a readership of about 10,000, that means 2-3 of us could have gotten seizures :O
I'd watch the rather crappy documentary and see the stage for myself but BBC worldwide copyright claimed it off youtube (while not hosting it anywhere else back in the BBC vault you go).

While on this topic of this I guess Earthbound consistent with the Wii U VC release.

For anyone who gets this, I would be very wary of the $0.99 one. That looks very similar to how I got scammed on Amazon a month or so ago. An item ships from China, is very cheap compared to similar items, has an estimated delivery date of over a month away, and then goes to some random address. Then you check the seller rating and long after it shipped, it suddenly goes down to 1 star.

You got a mild seizure from the SNES classic? Or from just watching it on youtube? That's awful. :(

Like I said, I got the mild seizure from playing the SNES Classic port of Yoshi's Island with their "genius" way of reducing the original seizure effect (which I'm going to get rid of when I replace that rom with the original).

Which scares me, as I never had that with the SNES original at all, never mind getting seizures from anything.

Thinking of hitting up the 2 24 hour Wal-Marts that I pass on my way to work Friday morning. I wonder what the chances will be that they still have some left.

When I look at my Amazon.de order, it says "shipping on Sep. 28th, delivery on friday". Prime user.

Not prime so It says it will be shipped today, finally found the chat, and currently chatting with Klaus

So Klaus wont guarantee I get this on Friday although I preorder in damn June...its like the third time something like this happens...

You probably want to talk to a doctor since you might have had seizure sensitivity and not realized it. I feel weird when I see flashing lights and try to avoid them, but I haven't had a seizure thankfully.

no need to replace the ROM, once it's hacked it should be possible to disable the anti-seizure thing

And actually after looking at a video, which made my eyes hurt, I could see why it would affect someone. It INSTANTLY flashes a large solid color area on and off. What a horrible idea. I didn't want to have to hack the console but if there's just a toggle I might do that.

If this is such a big deal to Nintendo that they include it in all their consoles, I wonder if we could get some publicity on it...though of course they can't fix it without offering a PC update utility themselves.

Is there no warning on the game about this?

It's like that stupid Shinsuke Nakamura entrance in the WWE that comes with no warning.
