Loving the hackability updates... mainly because it implies that Star Fox 2's rom will definitely be dumped.

I've already bought a SNES mini, no piracy intention here. I just want to be able to buy or make a Star Fox 2 repro cart for original hardware.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't already privately dumped by a bunch of people.

It's almost as if Nintendo intentionally left a backdoor in the NES Mini and possibly now the SNES. There was even that little message in the NES.

You probably want to talk to a doctor since you might have had seizure sensitivity and not realized it. I feel weird when I see flashing lights and try to avoid them, but I haven't had a seizure thankfully.

I already went, and I'm waiting to get the test results.

The thing is, THAT was the only instance of me getting a seizure. Doesn't make any sense, man.

no need to replace the ROM, once it's hacked it should be possible to disable the anti-seizure thing

I'll do that. Thanks.

This is why I'm not convinced the Yoshi's Island thing is an anti-seizure measure. It flashes a large block of a bright colour at you, and if you're hitting lots of those things in succession, imagine what that's like.

Would be sad if such a nasty emulation flaw was allowed to slip through. It also doesn't bode well if you want to use the built-in SNES emulator to emulate other games rather than Snes9X. Could be all sorts of random glitches.

Indeed, it would be sad.

It seems to use the same patch system as the NES Mini, though, so if it is a patch then it will be very easy to disable.

Current strings from the NAND dump...

39RomPatches_NotYetSplitByGameAndCategory 19RomPatches_StarFox2 18RomPatches_StarFox 23RomPatches_StarFox_1or2 Рk hЛ ╕М 21RomPatches_FireEmblem 25RomPatches_KirbySuperStar

No Yoshi's Island there, but could be in the "NotYetSplitByGameAndCategory" section.

I imagine such a small number of NES or SNES Classic owners hack it that Nintendo probably doesn't care about people doing it.

I wonder if it just effects people differently. A friend of mine in Europe tested out his unit early and he suffers from epilepsy. Didn't mention anything amiss on that level when I asked him about it.

I'm not going to release it but I sure did.

I am surprised Nintendo did nothing to block people from hacking this console after what happened to the Nes Classic.

Putting an usb port without the data lines would have been enough for 99% of people.

I guess they consider it's not worth it, or they prefer the system to be easy to repair in case of corruption.

Isn't that how they put their own software onto the device?

Probably, but they can also put the software directly on the flash chip or by using test points / JTAG on the motherboard... I don't know how Sony/Microsoft program their console flash chip at the factory but I don't think it's through USB

So if initial stock is really decent like some are saying, I am wondering about the restock. I never saw a NES Classic on the shelf, and a Switch once in a while.

I will forever wish Chrono Trigger was on this but atleast I can use one of the controllers to play it on Wii VC. Lots of awesome games on this SNES Mini to play too. Friday is going to be a blast!

Hearsay I've gotten wind of is painting a picture that at least some retailers, like Toys R Us stores, expect the same number of restock as launch day as early as a week from then, for example.

I panic pre-ordered a few and forgot to cancel the Nintendo Store one. Not sure if I'll sell it on here or keep it as a Christmas present.

OP really should have said "you need a USB power adapter". It would have avoided a lot of confusion. I think people are reading his wording and thinking its like the 3DS situation where you really do need to buy a separate AC adapter.

When people mod the SNES mini, will the interface and display options change completely, or is it the same just with more games?

Yeah Chrono Trigger is a glaring omission. I wish they had a beat em up too.

I haven't played either Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana, so was just glad I got one of em. Now with the SoM remake coming I kinda wish we got Chrono Trigger instead

I can’t wait to see how potent/accurate the stock emulator is. The NES Classic emulator only supported a small selection of mappers for the games that it shipped with. But the SNES has no such thing as mappers, so unless they needed to do tons of game-specific tweaks to get games to run, technically it should run any rom you throw at it!

I’m hoping to add Chrono Trigger and DKC 2 to restore great justice.

Especially as we already know it supports SuperFX!

Seems like it will be easy enough to fix that problem..... ;)

Still annoyed that I was not able to secure a preorder, but I will fix that by standing out in a line for a few hours to ensure I get one this time. :)

Not really... The SNES does not use mappers, but it does use on-cartridge enhancement chips. Here is a list of the chips and the games that used them. Most games just used the base SNES hardware, but this list shows games that had extra hardware built into the cartridge to run. The included games on the Classic that use special chips should allow games that use that same special chip to be played.

So, for example, Donkey Kong Country 2 doesn’t use any special chips so it should work just fine. Pilotwings uses the DSP-1 chip, but so does the included Mario Kart, so that should work. Mega Man X2 uses the CX4 chip, but no game on the Classic uses that so it might not work because the Classic’s emulator might not support that specific special chip.

It's unfortunate that no games in the collection use the CX4 or S-DD1 because we'll possibly be locked out of Mega Man X2, Mega Man X3, and Street Fighter Alpha 2.

Fortunately, I can see Capcom making a Mega Man X collection for modern consoles now that the Mega Man Legacy Collection is done with and there was that rumor of a Street Fighter Collection coming so all bases should be covered.

So, GAME cancelled my order because they suck and have the worst CS ever.

But I managed to get an order in on Fnac in case I can’t find one over here in Canada land.

The OP is half assed.

The guy can't be bothered to put up the correct image for the US version, despite several people posting about it.

OP only cares about shitting on the US version console aesthetics, never mind that it comes with an Ac adapter (which he barely mentions and isn't clear for the EU and JP versions) as well as the concave buttons for the controllers.

What are the odds that I'll be able to add English menus and ROMs to the JP version I was able to secure a preorder for? Pretty decent?

I agree. we should just lock this thread and create a new one

Weird, my GAME order has this message on it "Incident raised with this product". When I click 'View Report' it says there is nothing to report.

Should I be worried? Is it because I'm trying to ship it to Canada?

Was curious where they found the image.

Google Image Searching "super nintendo classic edition box" gave it as the third result on a page that clearly labels it "A fan-make mockup of what the SNES Classic Edition box could look like" lol

They have it on every order page. It's very easy to misunderstand.
