Fortunately, I can see Capcom making a Mega Man X collection for modern consoles now that the Mega Man Legacy Collection is done with and there was that rumor of a Street Fighter Collection coming so all bases should be covered.

Mega Man X, X2 and X3 are my favorite SNES games, so not having X2 and X3 will definitely make me less excited for the Classic. It will feel incomplete to me if I can put on games like DKC2, Pilotwings and Chrono Trigger but not Mega Man X2 and Mega Man X3. However, I’m still holding out hope that they will be supported since they have been released for virtual console. I’m wondering if they based this emulator off the VC one and will just leave in CX4 support.
 
I want an RDS Industries carrying case for this thing but I can't find any evidence that one exists or is being made.

The Switch and NES Classic cases they made are great.

I thought about making it after the preorder thread, but then I saw it was claimed.

I wanted to see what he could come up with. Instead, bad OT, shitting on my childhood and lack of info, badly presented and wrong images.

Even the thread subtitle is bad. That's just messing the NES tagline of the time.
 
Where's gonna be the best bet regarding lining up tomorrow night for this, without a pre-order? Will Gamestop have a surplus beyond the pre-orders?
 
Looks like the one I ordered from Target for a friend is getting here on October 11th.

Good thing I have my pre-order with Gamestop for Friday.

Putting an usb port without the data lines would have been enough for 99% of people.

I guess they consider it's not worth it, or they prefer the system to be easy to repair in case of corruption.

what do they really lose though from people adding games to it? it's not like they are selling software for these devices separately
 
Can anyone tell me how big the box is? Or post a pic?

Mine has been delivered to my address in Ireland so I'm wondering whether it'd be fair to have my family put it in their bags and courier it across the atlantic to me or it could be next year before I get it.

EU box is 22.5 x 16.5 x 7.5 cm

Pretty compact.

4:3 does look pretty good. I haven't noticed any bad artifacting on my end.

The CRT effect is cleaner than the NES classic version. It looks like a basic scanline filter but a bit softer.

I'll probably end up just using the hack program to turn it into a strict scanline filter anyway. I use scanline-only filter on my retropi and think it looks better than either no scanlines or more "complete" crt filters.

This is what I did with the NESC. 4:3 with an "aftermarket" scanline option and disable seizure protection and I'm off to the races.
 
When people talk about adding games to this and the NES Classic do they get their own entries in the built in menu and everything? Are they able to add boxart and such?

Yup, it ends up looking totally legit, as if the added games were part of the stock product.

Awesome. For some reason the idea of just adding Jurassic Park and the Star Trek TNG game is really amusing to me. Just a few games anyway so that it still feels curated.

Only fear is that I'll break it somehow.

DS version, unless you really hate the form factor. That said, the original SNES version isn't that much different. You'll be fine with that. Hack it into your SNES Mini!
 
Anybody else snag a Hori Fighting Commander pre-order from Amazon?

The DS version is considered to be a pretty definitive version of the game, but there's also a port of the exact SNES original on the Wii Virtual Console if you want to play on your TV.

FF3US (FF6)

The original FF3 was a famicom (NES) game and thus wouldn't be on this collection.

I'll be more precise on what makes it the definitive version and why every part of that is unnecessary.

DS version has over the SNES version:
  • The PS1 cutscenes without any of the PS1's awful loading (they can be turned on or off in the menu)
  • a re-translated script more accurate to the original Japanese text.
  • An added monster battling mini game
  • New end game areas
  • Reintroduces the 2 cut songs from CT back into the game via those new end game areas (if only briefly).
  • Slightly extended story beat explaining the Fall of Guardia that plays a major role in Chrono Cross.

  • The PS1 cutscenes are good, but they are just random interjections and the in-engine SNES game handles them well enough that they are a bonus, but not needed for enjoyment.
  • The retranslated script doesn't amount to any real change to the story. It fixes little inconsistencies but it comes at the cost of the characters being more sterile (Frog loses his middle-english accent being the biggest change)
  • The monster battling mini game is garbage and doesn't net you any interesting items.
  • The new end game areas are TEDIOUS. Constant going back and forth to different areas in the worst kind of fetch questing ever made, all to get even more powerful weapons that trivialize the games already not-that-hard final bosses.
  • Reintroducing the songs in the new areas is a nice touch, but they lack any emotional weight those songs were supposed to have because they are used just as background music for the areas instead of for the cutscenes they were likely intended for.
  • The extended story point is short and is already implied elsewhere, so it's more of a nice confirmation than anything else.

So yeah, there are a LOT of additions in the CT versions versus the SNES version, but they all amount to little and you don't really lose anything if you don't get it. Just don't play the PS1 version. The loading is awful.
