Anyone who ordered on Amazon US during that one late night ever hear anything about when it will ship yet? Still haven't gotten my estimate, hope I still get it :(

If it is anything like the other gaming related stuff I order from amazon then it will ship the day before release. Sometimes I don't get an email notification until that night.

Does anyone know if you are able to hide preinstalled games or remove them via Hakchi with the NES Classic at least?

all that art was designed for CRT displays, so it's no surprise that if you don't account for that, some things will look off.

The above depends on the game. For example, with pixel perfect, Samus in Morph Ball form is a proper circle. In 4:3 she's an oval.

Basically it's not consistent as to whether they took 4:3 stretching into account or not.

The best part is, sometimes it's mixed within the same game.

So Super Metroid isn't 100% "correct" in pixel perfect, for example? Morph ball is a proper circle but other things might be a bit off?

Well that's certainly convenient. Is there a list somewhere about which games are better in which mode? Or should I just set CRT mode and roll with the intentional softness?

I think Super Metroid is one that has everything working perfectly in pixel perfect. Blocks are square, Samus is a circle, there's no/little custom art scenes, etc. Pixel perfect is what I choose when playing Super Metroid.

Cool, I'll definitely keep that in mind.

THIS shit drives me bananas about retro games. I'm such a perfectionist and I just can't get over it ugh. I used to play pixel perfect on everything, but then I would notice that some games looked squished. But then on 4:3 some look stretched!? Ahhhhhhh

Have you noticed the aspect ratio seeming off using pixel perfect as opposed to 4:3? I've been reading up on this, and it seems like pixel perfect is definitely sharper, but the artists were designing things they knew would be stretched by the CRT technology that existed at the time, so pixel perfect ends up giving you a horizontally compressed image (compressed as in squeezed, not data compression). Sample shots explaining it:

Pixel perfect is sharper, but the moon is an oval.

Yeah the problem here is that this is on a per-game basis. Some games planned for it, and some games didn’t. Sometimes it even differs between different objects within the same game. Super Metroid has Samus’ morphball looking oval in 4:3, but other elements like the “S” logo at the end of the game looks round in 4:3.

It usually comes down to this: when designing small objects, they were concerned about filling tiles as much as possible, but when it came to large background items, they suddenly cared for them to look right in 4:3.

I actually squeeze the image a little bit when playing on my CRTs (horizontal size setting).

On the other hand, Metroid made most round items a little skinny, as the developers knew the CRT would stretch it out a bit.

Get a CRT with horizontal size adjustment! It's the ultimate for perfectionists.

Psh... pixel perfect mode...

RE: Filters; I haven't played Kirby yet. So far I've been satisfied with CRT and Pixel Perfect depending on the game. I'd probably go 4:3 if a dominant element of the game was supposed to be round.

Yoshi's Island emulates well, I've 100%ed up to 1-8. Only issue is the transition when you touch a Fuzzy the effect is wrong. It's supposed to do a little puff and then begin warping the background in mode 7. Instead you get this flash of incorrect background sprites and then it warps the background. It's only for like 5 or 6 frames, but it's conspicuously wrong. Music sounds correct.

This is what people are assuming is an anti-seizure measure, but I am in complete disagreement as it seems more likely to cause a seizure than prevent one in my opinion.

Do we know if the PAL version comes with a USB cable or if we'll have to use our own micro USB cables?

It comes with a USB cable, just not an adapter to plug one into.

So madmonkey flashed the SNES Mini NAND in the NES Mini. It works. lol

Not surprised one bit! It was obvious they were going to reuse the exact same hardware, and only change the form factor and software. Now the next question is: is the hardware powerful enough to run N64 games?

I suppose it would be possible to load the PAL interface onto a US SNES? I think I would prefer multi-color over purple, even if it doesn't match lol

I've decided to only add 10 games to this thing when I get it, as I want to preserve the smaller row of box art without going off the screen.

SimCity is one such game that made that list. It might be my favourite version of that game across any platform.

It’s too easy to pile them on and then not play any. I'm going to look in the loft at my SFC carts to see which ones I loved enough to keep, and then put those on. I know for sure Area 88, paroidus, kikikaikai, and legend of hero Tonma.

You have to beat level 1 of Star Fox to unlock Star Fox 2. That's cool! Wonder how the firmware handles that. Makes you wish they added achievements to all the games.

It should be, but they need more flash memory and need to make a deal with Microsoft. The N64 had so little too offer, if they don't get the Rare games it's just not worth it. This is especially true now, with better versions of OOT and MM available and Pokémon Stadium being pretty much obsolete.

I would prefer the white Japanese interface. Really have no idea why they changed the background for Europe. The colours pop more in front of the white background, imho.

So if someone flashed the NES classic onto the SNES, does that mean SNES is already hacked to add more games?

Is there anyone else with a Best Buy preorder waiting for a shipping confirmation? Mine has been "preparing" for three days now. I've been charged already, but I'm starting to doubt I'll get this on or before Friday.

There may be some slight changes to the program used to do it on the NES, but essentially yes.

I’m in the same boat I did an I store pickup and traditional web buy just in case but they haven’t moved in the last three days either: selling my extra to a Gaffer already at cost.

Microsoft has been pretty cool/open to that kind of stuff in the past. I think it would be easy to get them on board. I'd love a N64 Classic Mini. Even with just a handful of games. My hype level would be through the roof!

What made Target and Walmart decide to hide their inventory? Wouldn't that just help?

I don't know, but Zoolert randomly returns some numbers for Target. I wish I could get the site to return Best Buy numbers, but it never has for me.

I’d be down for an N64 classic but they need to do more work to make the games visually tolerable with AAA and a resolution bump...playing on an original N64 is hideous.

I wouldn't worry until tomorrow evening. I just got my shipping notification for my BB order. Sometimes they ship based on relation to where you are and the warehouse the item is in.

The console is out Friday in the UK and I still don't have shipping confirmation emails from Game or Nintendo. Kind of worried it won't get here by Friday...

madmonkey has got the NAND dump working on a NES Mini. I would say we're less than a day away from them figuring out how to do stuff with ROMs.

If it's possible to put the entire SNES Classic on an NES Classic, I wonder if there's any chance of being able to put both together onto one of the devices. Some sort of dual-boot setup where you get a menu upon powering up and you can select which system to choose, each having its own games, settings, UI, menu theme, etc.

Are there any pictures of the console as it relates to someone's hand size? It looks really small. I saw GameXplain had an unboxing video but I didn't want to watch that because I want to unbox it myself and smell the glorious plastic.
