A LOT of people, even on this forum, have defended his remarks in the past year.
I'm fine with this getting attention.
I'm fine with this getting attention.
Did Greg or KF actually ever get a backbone and just outright denounce the shit he says?
Cause that was the shit that got me to unsub from KF's patreon.
Didn't they fired him?
Oh, I thought this was Colin Mochrie! I feel better now.
Well, I'll just add this, this topic alone probably made him a few hundred more dollars on his Patreon.

Yea Colin has a lot of left-leaning views that people don't give him credit for.
He also has some out-there views that make people scoff at him, but what can you do.
Didn't they fired him?
I'm tired of seeing this echoed in this thread. When someone is saying regressive racist things, is ignoring systematic structures, conflating demographics and ethnic groups under the Asian moniker, they need to be called out. Ignoring racism doesn't address it.
People like to believe that ignoring people works and it doesn't. It doesn't work with HS bullies. It doesn't work with workplace harassment, and it doesn't work online either. Not addressing people like this allows a wound to fester. And the infection can spread, and it needs to be addressed.
We need to stop giving x attention is the worst way to solve anything. It's lazy. Confronting racists with an audience needs to happen, and it's not like most of the people on this site are Colin's patrons.
People always think being for weed or not liking religion automatically makes you liberalRacism is a myth!
All Asians are smart!
Black people are where they are because theyre too busy pointing the finger at other people to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps!
Oh, and global warming is probably real.
Yep, hes basically a liberal with a couple crazy opinions. Amirite?
What is your point?
Yeah, I saw Bob Mackey responding to it on Twitter.

we put up with this shitboy in the games industry for a decade, folks, and everyone knew he was like this
I still dont interact with their brand and content because of Colin way after he left. For real though, why did we let the rest of Kinda Funny Games off the hook? They enabled this guy for years, and we just let them go? Lots of other people from IGN have defended him too, and some like Mitch Dyer barely can muster an emotion about Colin other than "Well geee, sure wish he'd turn the racism down but I don't dislike him!"
Ignoring for 1-second that he's a complete fucking idiot, just because one group is accepted by the majority and is doing well that doesn't mean other groups don't face harsh discrimination or conditions. Anti-blackness is very much a thing in the US and other minority groups sometimes even embrace it to help further their acceptance by the majority demographic.
That's not what I was saying but I can see how it would be misconstrued as that.Racism is a myth!

In the replies he also puts Mitch Dyer on blast a little lol
Yeah but people like Colin thrive on attention. Like someone else pointed out in this thread, Colin's Pateron took a nose dive after the first month because he stopped being in the limelight. This is him trying to get his name out there again.
Make him richer, makes him happier and gives him more ability to continue spreading his shitty viewpoint. People like this are better ignored, but make a big enough deal out of the guy and before you know it, he's working as a talking head on CNN or Fox making 6 figures to say nationwide how white supremacy doesn't work because of Asians existing.
So, tell me how you're addressing the model minority myth Asians are dealing with. Tell me how ignoring racism makes it go away. Link the speculation that his racism is getting him more patreons even though you stipulated that his pateron is taking a dive.

Guys its just so obvious, Colin's cracked the code and we're all just clueless lefties making shitty arguments.
God he's such a fucking dickhead.
Stop giving this moron attention
Maybe we need to call out his virwpoint and not him.Yeah but people like Colin thrive on attention. Like someone else pointed out in this thread, Colin's Pateron took a nose dive after the first month because he stopped being in the limelight. This is him trying to get his name out there again.
Bob better be careful. Colin may challenge him to a debate.

To give some perspective from someone who's followed Colin/Greg/Beyond/KFG for a long time... I started listening to Beyond around episode 100 and have followed C&G pretty much right through to this year (I no longer follow Colin's stuff but still listen to Kinda Funny Games Daily).
It was fairly clear from the start what Colin's politics (he supported Romney in 2012) but he was also pretty good at his job and well spoken on video games for the most part (his histories of... were decent reads for example). He also had some fairly left-leaning views for a Republican, on same-sex marriage for example, which I think is one of the reasons why you didn't see a lot of people calling him out back in the day - he was that typical "fiscally conservative, socially liberal" type and so people mostly got along with him.
For what every reason, over the last year or two that changed and it now seems like he's far more right-leaning, at least socially, than he ever was in the past. My guess is it was combination of being independent (first with KF and then with his own thing) and the fact that a lot of people have felt more open about racist views since Trump/Brexit over here in general.
That's why I think it's somewhat unfair to criticise people for not calling him out earlier - it's difficult to call out a colleague or friend for having different political views than you (obviously this is just my view from the outside - I have no idea on the innerworkings of IGN/Kinda Funny). Now that those views have turned into something much worse, I feel like most of the gaming press, KF included, have decided to just ignore him rather than call him out.
I also find it difficult to blame Greg too much. It just be hard to have a close friend who changes like that and takes up bigoted views as Colin has and trying to disassociate those kind of views from a decade-long friendship can't be easy either. Multiply that by being in the public eye and relying on that friend for part of your income. I'm not defending Greg but I can see why he never called Colin out before he did.

He did and even offered to fly him to LA and give 2000 dollars to charity.
Holding charity money to ransom for something so stupid sucks. It's the Moriarty way!

So true. This is the thing that stood out the most about Colin to me... He was so confident he was right, about everything. No matter what.He is the worst type of moron; the moron who always believes he's the smartest person in the room.

It's all cool. He lived among Asian people.

I'm not saying anything about ignoring it making racism going away.
