Hard to believe, but I had a pleasant experience buying my SNES at Walmart today. Got there around 4AM, ninth person in line. Brickseek reported 37 units at this Walmart, so I was in like Flynn.
Anyways, had some great conversations with the other people in line, and when the doors finally opened at 6AM, everyone walked in the store in a very civil manner. All those horror videos of Black Friday created an expectation of some bad shit, but nope. Everyone was cool as hell. The Walmart staff has the SNES's ready at the register, and I was in and out.
It's such a mindfuck, staring at this mini SNES, which is sitting on my TV stand shelf, between my PS4 pro and Xbox One.
How di you get back to the main menu from a game?
Don't have much to add to the thread except...
HOLY FUCKING SHIT, these games are hard.
Super Ghouls and Ghosts and Contra are just plain sadistic. And yes, I played and beat both of these 24 or so years ago, multiple times even. We as gamers today are just so spoiled by cushy difficulty settings and 4k landscapes. How the hell did I find a lot of this stuff fun back then? Lol
Is there a way to get back to the home screen without going over to the unit?
Gotta hit the reset button on the console.
Just picked up from Treasure Truck NYC. Was a lifesaver because today was insane at work and I was just barely able to make it downtown. The assumption is if you're not there day 1 this thing is gonna be sucked off store shelves nonstop throughout the holidays.
I notice a small indentation on the box, I guess from shipping, and no plastic sticker over the box flap... Normal?

it takes you to the menu for real
No plastic on mine or my Switch from a few weeks either. Seems normal.Just picked up from Treasure Truck NYC. What?Wait, I really gotta unplug this thing everytime I'm not using it?

Mine also came from the NYC truck. No plastic over the flap. Not like people were using it beforehand.
No, I know. It's just some things should be left in the past.

What?
Uh, just turn it off, no?
I'm pretty sure every electronic instruction manual ever says that. No one actually does it though.Right? The instruction manual says to unplug when not in use.
I read an article that said these have basically the same guts that the NES classic has under the hood. So for anyone familiar with hacking of the NES classic, can it emulate SNES games already? And my next question, will this be able to play the regular NES library as well once hacked? Anyone know if NES classic can play turbo graphics 16 games?

Will this controller work with the SNES classic?

Look at the title of the thread you are in.
Sweet.Yes to all of the above.
I just hooked up a screen in my car so people can play this thing while I Uber them. I'll be feasting on 5 star ratings in no time.
Can somebody compare the shell of the snes classic and the NES classic ? I was wondering if I can buy a NES classic case , that is already in stock and much cheaper, and use for the snes
Anybody ?
Wife tried for me today. She went to a target with 33 listed. She was told they were sold out, no big deal.
When she got home and 2 hours passed she watched a news report that showed the target she just left had sness In stock. She went right back to the store and they were gone again.
Congrats to those who received one, someone play Contra for me.
My tiny review here: This is a cool little console - but at the end of the day, it's a SNES.
Don't get me wrong! That's awesome - the SNES was my first console and playing this thing brings back a ton of memories. The console itself looks great, although the controller port cover feels kind of janky - I'm afraid to remove and replace it because it feels like it'll break.
The games are amazing, as you would expect. But the thing I couldn't get out of the back of my mind was that I've played all these games before and there's nothing really new about this release (aside from Star Fox 2). I ended up selling mine on Craigslist and will stick to other means of playing these games for now.
I wouldn't suggest paying more than retail for this. Every indication is that they'll be widely available after today.
