CRT filter and speaker frames are perfection omfg. Games just look like how I remembered them.

The frames are easily my favorite addition to the Classic series. I am of the same opinion. Speakers are so well done, however I also like the galaxy design for certain games as well. Mainly, Super Metroid.

The color changing grid seemed cool at first but it is a bit distracting.

Glad I kept this:

I knew it would come in handy someday. Playing Street Fighter II with it feels good!

Ahh was wondering which frames actually changed based on gameplay or just in general.

I'm using a HDMI and USB extensions so I can play this from the sofa while having access to the reset button and it looks awful.

I'll put up with it though since it has some of the greatest games of all time on it.

No, the art in a lot of these games was made with 4:3 CRTs in mind, so when you try to play them 1:1 on a fixed-pixel display, it messes with the look.

These are from the NES classic, but the same applies here:

No one wants an oblong Kirby

It depends on a game by game, hell, it even depends on a object by object basis. In Super Metroid the logo and Planet Zebes are actually oval shaped so that they're correctly shaped in 4:3 mode. But oddly enough the in-game sprites like Samus and the blocks are clearly designed without the stretch in mind. So both modes are just fine.

wood panel ftw, though. with that snes logo.

I actually do like the second (?) one, the one kinda simulating an ambilight screen. It's not distracting and still makes use of the screen size somewhat.

Wish it had a proper TV frame and not just the speakers. Game specific frames would have been sweet as well. Hopefully we'll be able to add frames when the hack/mod thing hits.

Nope, nope, nope, I quit Mega Man X. What the fuck. Did the penguin, tried spark mandrill next like a guide suggested and can't even beat the stage here, it's pure madness, projectiles and respawning opponents everywhere + little boss in the stage.

Fuck that, Dark Souls is piece of cake against this.

:(

- I appreciate the nostalgia in needing to reset the console to pick a new game. But I don't think anyone would be mad if they added a tiny home button above select and start. Not even so much to switch games but it would be nice if we could easily compare different filters and quickly switch borders.
I read that the Wii classic controllers are compatible and that the home button works.

Yeah, I really hope that there's a soft mod at some point that lets you go to the home menu with a button combo. It's just a little bit of a hassle to have to get up and press the reset button every single time.

Oh ok, you mean this Retroarch is some kind of a different emulator flashed over the original one instead of only new added games?

Ok in that case that's not what I want.

But how about this? This seems native?

I'm guessing that it's probably the NES Classic or another emulator with an overlay. In the video he just talks about waiting for Hakchi2 to become compatible with the SNES. I also find it amazing that people don't mind openly admitting that they have pirated every single classic rom in existence openly on a youtube video..

My set up too until I get controller extensions and a working reset hack. There’s wires all across the living room.

Playing through Mario RPG as my choice game to play through first. It’s not as good as I remember unfortunately. Still a good game but when I played it a few years ago for the first time I really loved it and had fond memories. The battle system is fine and enjoyable but navigating and jumping on to platforms isn’t very fun when you have to be more accurate/precise, which I never recall being so tricky at times.

I don't have one yet, but would it be easier to have a long HDMI cable and the console close by instead of controller extensions?

People mad about scalpers are funny, if they wanted a console so bad why didn’t they try to go to a store and buy one? Every store had stock upon opening. This was the most stocked Nintendo launch ever.

If I had to guess I’d say it’s jealousy.

Keep at it. That's one of the harder stages with low health. Once you get dashing down to an art, you will become much better and it feels awesome.

Here's some suggestions:

#1: Don't go for Mandril next. The ice power beats him, but his stage is incredibly hard unless...

#2: You beat Storm Eagle's stage. His level is easier and he's not hard to beat with a blaster. Plus, you can get a health upgrade and an energy tank in his level very easily. And the helmet upgrade which lets you get access to other secrets. Once you beat this level, it also 'crashes' into Mandril's stage making it a LOT easier.

#3: Don't be afraid to play out of order. In fact, if you're new to MMX, it's HIGHLY recommended just so you can collect the various health and other upgrades. Don't be afraid to use a guide if you don't have the time, but if you DO, just explore the levels a bit and you'll find them on your own.

Kind of true, considering how many chances Nintendo gave. Preorders were well stocked online, and the Gamestop and ThinkGeeks midnight launches had more than enough. Local Best Buy also had stock for everyone in line.

Haha what?

I was just at a Walmart on Thursday night. They didn't get any SNES Classics.
Hell, most of the Florida Walmarts didn't get any in.

The only reason I have one on the way is because I lucked into that thinkgeek sale at 3:00 am.

Because maybe they have jobs and can't spend the night camping in front of a store until it opens? And by lunchtimes the stores are all sold out?

People like you really need to STFU.

Not everybody can get to a store on a Friday morning due to work/school/family commitments. Some people also have disabilities and rely on online stores.

So why don't you avoid the daft generalisations?

I mean, Walmart has never been a great source for this kind of stuff. You can’t just go to one store and give up, then get mad. If people really wanted a SNES C there were plenty of ways to acquire one. I went to Walmart too and was turned away, only to be #79 in line at Best Buy 10 minutes after they opened. I still think scalping is shitty, but it’s not like it was difficult at all to buy one of these.

I have a job and was able to walk in 10 minutes after the store opened before work and grab a console no problem. Stores opened at 8, 9, 10 etc plenty of time to get there before work or on lunch. Everyone who camped overnight looked like an idiot as people walked up at opening and had no problem at most stores in my city.

I mean, if the console is that important though, they could have gone online, taken the time to get to a store, etc, that’s what everyone else who got one did. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

yeah that was fun. I think one Orlando store had 'em in at midnight. Amazon Treasure truck came through but you had to be there by 8.

Not everyone can get to a major electronics store at 7am or work/live in a city with a treasure truck

And it has nothing to do with being jealous, people don't like scalpers because they're ammoral shitheads who are intentionally trying to take advantage of people

This is a pretty obnoxious thing to say and I say that as someone who got one

I can't tell whether you're a scalper or a delusional Nintendo fan.

BTW, I got one yesterday morning, so not "jealousy."

So it didn't occur to me I can use other controllers on this thing. Is that correct?

If I have issues with the controller not reaching close enough to my couch, what should I do ? (least expensive option preferred)

Buy controller extension cords on Amazon. Just search for "NES Classic controller extension cords."

But, it’s like, if you really want it NOW, you gotta pay the price. That price being inflated on eBay, or the price being taking the time to get to a store. Nintendo already made it clear there will be a good amount of stock, so people who are buying it at those high prices can wait for that if they choose. No one is being taken advantage of. If rich people want to spend a stupid amount of money on some toy, thats their prerogative.

Just started the SNES mini for the first time after getting it at midnight launch and oh my I never imagined I would feel like a kid again when playing these games with a SNES controller.
Megaman X is amazing fun, used to finish that game in one session all the time when I was young. Zelda is my favourite SNES game and look forward playing that again. Also finally playing FF6 and Secret of Mana.
Good times ahead with so many great games.
