Really, you don't? I suppose you think it was stolen by a homeless person who wanted to provide Super Metroid to his starving family? And that I should just be stuck without one for weeks even though I pre-ordered because people out there are creating artificial scarcity and trying to profit off of it and "that's the free market?" Please, just stop talking to me. I just got my shit jacked after looking forward to this for months. I'm not in the mood to entertain your nonsense arguments.
Did the thief have X-ray vision? How did they know it was a SNES through a cardboard box?

Use this as an opportunity to get your kid into gaming. Set them up on Luigi, teach them the controls, teach them about taking turns, etc. Chances are they'll get bored or frustrated pretty quickly and just want to watch you anyways... but you get to share your hobby and maybe spark a desire within them :)

Haha gonna be doing this with my 4 year old daughter tonight

So you think they somehow knew it was the SNES classic and store it because of that? Conspiracy nut?

Uh...so I bought a Classic at Target yesterday and requested a cancellation of my Walmart preorder. Now I just got an email saying they just shipped my Walmart order. Fuck. I don't want/need this one, I figured it was backordered and I wouldn't be getting it. Thinking I may have to return this to a Walmart store once it arrives :/

Plenty of us do not have one and would buy it!

I'm still confused about internal saves vs suspend points.

So if I just naturally reset out of F-Zero/Super Punch Out/SMW and don't use a suspend point, when I play the games again, my progress will be in there? And if I load a suspend point, it'll wipe out the internal save?

How are people losing their saves from suspend points? Playing ahead, then exiting out and loading a previous suspend state? Why would you even do that?

Kudos to 8bitdo for already updating their retro receivers for the snes classic.

I love using their controllers, and also enjoy not having to get up and hit the reset button :)

I give Nintendo lots and lots of shit for practically everything, but launch night there were 51 SNES Classics at my rinky dink tiny podunk walmart, and 31 at the even more rinky dink one 20 minutes away. My wife walked in and was 20th in line with only a little bit of time left, and got one with no preorder. Good stock this time around.

I don't know the technicalities but it's good -- it's damn good. As a matter of fact, it doesn't even feel like an emulator when I play. Maybe holding the real controller has something to do with it but blasting through MMX at the 60hz refresh rate feels blazing fast and responsive with 0 input lag you get from any other emulation type Ive used, including VC. No exaggerating, it feels totally different.

Slowdown present in the original games is present here but doesnt detract from the mindblowing insane responsiveness Im feeling.

It’s good, probably one of the best, but it’s still not perfect. I can definitely feel at least one frame of input lag when compared to the real hardware. I wonder if anything better is even possible technically...

Nope, nope, nope, I quit Mega Man X. What the fuck. Did the penguin, tried spark mandrill next like a guide suggested and can't even beat the stage here, it's pure madness, projectiles and respawning opponents everywhere + little boss in the stage.

Fuck that, Dark Souls is piece of cake against this.

:(

I remember when I was 11, I wrote a letter to Nintendo Power asking how to obtain the heart tank in the Spark Mandrill stage :) They wrote me back and turns out, I had to use Boomer Kuwanger's boomerang attack to scoop it up and return it to me from the other side of the wall. I think the hardest part of Mega Man X is the spider boss in one of the final levels. Love me some Mega Man.

F-zero doesn't have any form of save.

There are two types of save, Save Ram (sram, srm, etc) and Save State. Sram is what you'd call the 'natural' save system used in SNES games at the time. Save states are 'artificial' in that they are something outside of what a real SNES does. Simple explaination is that a save state makes a copy of ALL RAM at a specific point (including save ram) and then copies it all back into the SNES memory when you load it. Meaning it's a 1:1 perfect replication of that moment to the SNES.

So, you can essentially overwrite your sram save with an earlier save if you load a save state for some reason but then decide you didn't want to use it.

Or you could do it BAMF style and just jump dash off the wall :)

I was also there at everyone of those, and was able to preorder easily with 2 out of the 4. I’m just going to leave it at the fact that we are both operating on anecdotal evidence.

Lol, what? A lot of those preorders went up in the middle of the night and went out in seconds.

I was able to get mine luckily through Treasure Truck, but it felt nearly impossible to get it via pre ordering. It's good that Nintendo had good walk in stock, but most people can't take time off work to by an electronic. Part of me wishes Nintendo went back to Sunday launches, at least if they are going to make pre ordering incredibly difficult.

You sleeping through preorders isn’t a measure of difficulty in obtaining an SNES.

What the hell? Of course it is. People aren't randomly waking up between 2-5 AM.

It is here!

Gonna do a 96-Exit run for SMW first.

It’s like, if people want this so badly they have to be a Nintendo fan right? Do they want Nintendo to fail? This artificial scarcity is what makes these consoles fly off shelves. Wanting an infinite supply to exist like this would mean we never get the next step, N64 Classic, GameCube Classic, etc. it’s a necessary evil. Like it or not, NESC scalpers are to thank for the SNESC existing at all.

I got multiple preorders in during the day after missing the overnight. It wasn’t impossible.

Did that with both my daughters around that age. My eldest (now 7) just helped me beat SMW with 96*. Though honestly the NES Mario and Kirby games is where I got them started.

Yea I did it with my son (now 13) around that age. Double dragon, streets of Rage, california games, chase hq, gauntlet, jak and daxter, IK+,1942 plus loads more. He had a good gaming upbringing lol. Shame that all he plays now is fifa

Save states are a save of the current status of the entire emulation. If your game doesn't have an in-game save present in the emulation when you create the save state then the emulated state does not have that game save.

"A lot" of preorders did not go up over night. Only Amazon and Best Buy did, and as you can see, the Amazon preorders did fuck all since they did not send a single one out.

Correct and correct. Though it won’t “wipe” it out, but it’ll replace it with the state of the save ram at the moment of your restore point.

How are people losing their saves from suspend points? Playing ahead, then exiting out and loading a previous suspend state? Why would you even do that?

Correct. And I can easily see how it can happen if you play multiple concurrent saves. Say you have your own personal save. And then another save that’s your two player game with your girlfriend. Last time you played your personal save, you didn’t get to reach a save point so you saved a restore point. Later that night you payed with your girlfriend and made a lot of progress in your co-op save. The next day you return and want to pick up your personal save where you left off, and reload your restore point. OOPS. All the progress you did with your girlfriend is now gone forever.

Best Buy preorders and GameStop were early evening and middle of the day. Can’t recall WalMart.

If you’re talking about general release on the 29th with GameStop and ThinkGeek I’ll concede to that, but Walmart/Amazon/BestBuy/Gamestop Pre-Orders were not stacked at the same time. You would literally have to sleep through a whole week, and also not follow any social media of those stores, or our resident Wario64.

I’d argue if scalpers didn’t exist and Nintendo would just lower output of production. There’s an amount they want out there, and it’s likely would be close to demand level. It’s like buying any other limited edition item.

Nintendo is intentionally making just enough, and if they don’t want sitting inventory this is how the release has to be drip feeded out.

They do this with products for their mainline console too, like the WiiU gamecube adapter.

Consider yourself lucky. Of course there are going to be people who got a pre-order. I never said it was completely impossible. Doesn't mean it was easy to get whatsoever. There were tons of people on this forum who couldn't get one while trying even with Wario64 updates. Target's website was malfunctioning when the pre-orders went up. Wal Mart sold out in what? 30 seconds? Granted that was the first roll out of pre orders for them. Not sure how long it took for the 2nd roll out to sell out.

Some people have jobs.

I can't believe how stupid people are being about this. If preorders sell out in less than a day, they aren't readily available. It's like Stockholm Syndrome in this thread with some of you.

Is there a progress report on the people working on modding the SNES Classic?

I'm so excited to add more games to make this a "perfect" collection. I was just wondering where the modders were currently at, or if there's actually an ETA.

Also, do you think it's possible that they'll be able to mod the console itself to let you hit the Home menu with a controller combination?

Seriously. I'm amazed at the people quoting me defending this.

Nintendo did good with walk in stock which is a good lesson learned for them, but don't give me this nonsense of pre orders being 'readily available.' I tried. Didn't get anything. I got all the way to the checkout page on Walmart, Target, and Best Buy only to lose out by mere seconds. Amazon Treasure Truck saved me.

OK, but why wouldn't you make a second restore point with the co-op save? I guess that's what I'm asking. Different restore points can't wipe each other out, right?

That functionality will surely be there. It was for the NES classic mod, and you can already use down plus select if you’re using the 8bitdo controllers and retro receiver.

So now I don’t have a job? Interesting.

Tons of people got preorders. Many others walked into a store yesterday, lined up, and bought one. More stock coming. Supply is fine, you may just have to wait a little longer than people who wanted it more.

When Best Buy, Amazon, Gamestop, and Walmart had their preorders up on the site there was plenty of stock; to the point where multiple members on GAF were wondering if this was a general non limited edition item release.

And I never said people were jealous, I was just agreeing with that other posters statement that it wasn't difficulty to obtain one.

Excuse me? Target and Walmart went down/out of stock in under 30 seconds. Amazon went up at 4am and was still OOS within hours. Best Buy I never even saw go up.

I went to 4 retailers yesterday morning; Target, Best Buy, Gamestop and Toys R Us. Only Best Buy happened to have two left.

People mad about scalpers are funny, if they wanted a console so bad why didn’t they try to go to a store and buy one? Every store had stock upon opening. This was the most stocked Nintendo launch ever.

If I had to guess I’d say it’s jealousy.

Aargh!! Is that all I had to do? Is go to the store and buy one???? I'm sooooooooo dumb!!!! I ended up going to a library and tried to buy one!!!! I'm suiuuuuuuiicj a dummy!!!!!

Someone remind me to go to the store and buy one I haven't tried that!!!!! Aaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!

I have a job.

I took a half day of vacation for the morning and went out at 5:30. Went back home after, took a nap, back to work.

If you want something on release it takes some extra effort. Not like getting a PS2 or a PS3 or a Wii was easy either.

I did pre order. My SNES was stolen off my porch. The fuckos who bought 20 of these things are the bane of my existence right now. That would not have happened to me without the scalpers. You have no point here.

Man I'm sorry some stupid asshole decided to be a pos and and steal your snes. I hope he heir gets dick cancer or something. And your right, scalpers are terrible.

I was at work till 2am and still stopped by multiple stores and didn't get one. If only I had went to the store!!!

I bought one yesterday morning.

But the preorder situation was not fine. Imagine if the new Call of Duty game was only available for four hours for preorder. People would not say that was fine.

I know hardware and software are different when it comes to fulfilling supply, but that is still shitty preorder availability regardless.

Like I mentioned in the thread earlier, I bought one yesterday morning. I am not complaining about the stock on the ground, but how annoying it was to get an online preorder.

And I walked into an EB Games and preordered my PS2 easy peasy the week preorders opened up. I don't think online preorders were much of a thing back then.

Not everyone can just get a half day off. My boss doesn't give a shit about a video game system. I did as much possible extra effort as I could to get one.

God that would be amazing. It's like unlocking the SNES Classic's true potential.

So there are currently 8bitdo SNES controllers that are wireless and can use a home menu shortcut?

I've been curious about their controllers for a while, especially the wireless SNES one. But now that I'm holding an official SNES controller, I really want to know if 8bitdo's build and buttons feel exactly the same.

If they're off in regards to form function or whatever, then it won't do it for me. A big part of the appeal with the Classic is how authentic its controller feels. I absolutely want a wireless option, but I'll need confirmation that it's a 1:1 feel.

OK, but why wouldn't you make a second restore point with the co-op save? I guess that's what I'm asking. Different restore points can't wipe each other out, right?

Out of habit I guess? If I properly save in the game, then I expect the progress to be saved and never be wiped out afterwards. Why would I make a restore point?

I’ve been using the 8bitdo snes clones for a long time and love them. And they have a “retro receiver” which is a dongle that plugs into the Wii port and can pair with all sorts of controllers. So that’s what I’m using.

And yes, I press down + select and get back to the menu. It’s great.

I’ve read mixed things I guess. Some people will only ever want the authentic real Nintendo made ones. For me, the 8bitdos feel the exact same. I go back and forth between real snes controllers plugged into an USB adapter and the 8bitdos wireless. Never noticed any difference honestly.

Lol. I first 100% this game and Hadoukened Sigma at like 6 years old. Then like maybe 14 years ago there was a collection launched with Gamecube and while still tough 100% the game again. Yesterday, I died 2x on the opening level and moved onto Super Punch-Out. My younger self would be ashamed.

I guess I'm just used to the concept due to CD/DVD consoles and memory cards. Memory card saves feel more like the restore point system than an internal save system.
