Too busy shitting on the US version to realize you put a fan made box.

Heck, EviLore had to correct your bad joke.

No, he shows up 5000 posts later with a bad jpg made in MS Paint.

Geez.....

It's fixed now, relax.

Not sure what all the OP controversy is about, but the new purple box in the image looks a bit rough. Here's a transparency if you need one.

Edit: Somehow uploaded wrong image originally. Fixed.

An image of a box does this to you? Sheesh. You must be something IRL.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You should see the freak outs in the BST thread. :P
One every 150 posts only!

the purple is part of the joke

People seem a little confused about the 8bitdo dongle, mainly because they have many products. One of them is an adapter that plugs into a regular snes and allows wireless controls on your original console. Obviously that’s not what you want here.

They have another one called retro receiver (edit: seems they call them all retro receiver so you have to look at the image to see what it plugs into) It came out around the same time as the NES classic, and plugs into the Wii style port. It allows a variety of wireless controllers to pair with it. I use it just for the snes clone controllers from 8bitdo, but I believe it works for TONS of controllers like ds4, Switch pro, etc.

Out of the box, it doesn’t work correctly with the SNES classic (only NES classic). However, they’ve ALREADY released the firmware update to make it work appropriately. Takes 2 mins to do and works perfectly. I’ve been using my 8bitdo controllers all day. Added bonus: down + select = reset; so no need to get up.

Seems to be out of stock right now on it’s own.

Awesome! Just updated the firmware on my receiver and the sn30 works great! Thanks for the heads up!

Just met
Ramuh
in FFVI. This game has such an interesting world/lore.

Agreed - I absolutely love it. Especially the
World of Balance
. The
World of Ruin
is alright as well, and has its own charm, but I really like the world/lore in the
World of Balance
.

One thing I'm curious about, not being familiar with emulators, is once this thing is hacked how accurate to the originals are roms that can be added to it, compared to the official Nintendo authorized games that've been placed on here? I've never played Chrono Trigger before but if I add it to the SNES Mini is the audio going to be all janky, am I going to run into weird glitches, or will it be pretty much the same as if Nintendo had included it?

That's the thing, we don't know if they implemented per-game tweaks or hacks or if it's just a universal SNES emulator.

Good emulation should generally be good regardless unless the emulator uses a bunch of hacks to cover for poor emulation. That said, retro arch will be available for those that don't work right.

It's generally less work emulating something correctly the first time than half assing it then trying to fiddle with individual hacks per game.

Emu authors work with far less info on the system to stay with than NERD would have.

It's no guarantee, but it's safe to assume NERD didn't intentionally cripple themselves or use 2nd and 3rd hand info.

25 years later and I still can't figure out how to use Mario's cape in SMW

Build up the speed, hold down A to fly up.

Then press forward, imagine he's a dive bomber, then press back, imagine he's now using that momentum to pull upwards. Long presses give extreme movements and short presses keeps him going in a steadyish line.

It's not precise but can be adjusted to fit what task you need to do.

So who will take up this cross and fix this OP?

Edit: and btw, I love how everyone shits on the US version of the SNES. However, do they understand that this is a retro console and nostalgia is a huge part of it? I completely agree that the European and Japanese consoles look better, but I would never buy those over the US version since the US version is the replica of the console I had as a kid. I love the US version more than the others simply because of this fact and therefore is the version I own.

Once you're in the air you don't need to hold forward unless you want to crash down. Instead press the back direction about once a second (almost immediately after the sound effect ends)

While flying push forward to dive, push backward/away to pull up. Ever play the Batman Arkham games? Its like that. Mario doesn't fly, you gotta dive down to gather speed then pull back to open the cape and raise up, repeating the swooping dive bomb and pull up repeatedly.

Specifically, wait until his trajectory passes horizontal into the lower quadrant, and then press the opposite direction from the way he's flying.

You don't have to and shouldn't dive down, much harder to maintain stability. Forward is for dive bombing into enemies only :)

My amazon.de order just arrived in the country (S. Korea). I really hope customs can clear it for delivery tomorrow (Monday). There's a long holiday starting Tuesday and it would suck to have it just sitting in some UPS distribution center about an hour away from me for an entire week. Many places are taking Monday off too, so I'll be SOL if UPS does that.

Edit: UPS took the fuck'n day off Monday (non-holiday). Crazy that they're sitting on packages for 10 days straight. My package is just an hour away and I can't even pick it up because no one is working for the next 7 days. So much for having a SNES to play during the break. :(

Diving down and pulling back up can also allow you to get around vertical blockades (since you go back up by ~the amount that you dove down).
But for normal flying, yeah.

Man going from Megaman X with precision movement to Super Mario World with its more momentum-y movement is extremely jarring.

FF VI is still so good and still my favourite Final Fantasy.

I figured I'd dip into all the games this weekend, but I just keep playing FF VI.

So the in-game save points in Super Metroid suddenly stopped working. I made the first save 9 minutes in, but any save I make in game since then doesn't record. I have to use save states only. That's really annoying!

On the NES Classic, the in game saves would be erased if you used a save state.

Remember though when Sega was caught using Gens in some of their re-releases? Lol
