If you use save states, or a save state it thinks of it as a different cart(easiest way I can think of putting it).
So you’d have to load that cart(state) in order to see the saves on it, or stick to the original type and not use save states.

It’s tricky. But I’d say just stick with the save states.

What are those "My Game Play Demo" and "Classic Demo" settings for?

Also, I totally get the whole retro effect and everything but I wish the main menu was a bit more higher res... Super blown out pixelart on a 50" tv looks kinda weird unlike in the games where it looks great.

When you leave it idle, classic demo will basically play attract screens of the game until you take over

My gameplay is also that but it's the 40 second rewinds of your save States instead of the default

If you have them both on, it cycles between so you aren't seeing the exact same each time the game comes up

So can I ignore the state, reload from save in-game and I should be fine? Or should I load up the state and never use in-game saving again?

Ah gotcha... That's cool

Beat Starfox 1 for the first time today. Went the level two path. Woof at how BS some of the bosses can be, they're either pushovers or total fuckery and nothing in between.

Not sure if I'm going to do level 1 and 3, maybe I'll just play till I get to Venom. Still fun, even if it's got some issues

Huh, why does this happen? Saved after legit saving yesterday night on ff3, no warning message though.

It's because of how save states work. When they save the state of the game, the sram (where in game saves go) is saved as well.

So when you load a save state, it overwrites the current sram with the sram from the save state.

So lets say you've started a new game, done 5% of it, then saved using the in game save facility (like a church in dragon quest for example). You then created a save state as well. Following that, you stop using save states and go through 90% of the game on in game saves only. If you then loaded that earlier save state, it would overwrite the 90% sram with the 5% one.

Hope that makes it clear, it's a slightly complicated subject.

That's what the instructions tell you to do

Hahaha all hardware instruction manuals pretty much say that to legally shield themselves. Like say in the event a huge power surge from non-conform electrical wiring that is 50+ years old or something would fry your device.

I’ve never unplugged *anything* that is not in use ever, and never had any problems.

Regarding loading up your games:

Basically, load from whatever you used last to save. If you saved in-game and turned off the system, load from the in-game save as if you were playing an actual SNES. If you last saved by using the save state and turned off the system, go to the save state in the home menu and load that rather than starting the game normally.

Not sure about the classic demo but with the game play demo if you leave your mini on the menu, after a short while a little mario will appear and access your save states and replays them

Did those rumors about Target getting more in today turn out to be true? I kept checking Brickseek last night to see of any of the local Target stores stock got updated, but never saw anything.

Wonder if the ROM data on the SNES mini are like the Wii where they split them up.

Nah, it's a single file, but has a weird new 48 bytes of information before the usual header. That being incorrect was stopping games loading, but Cluster figured out those 48 bytes.

Haven't seen what he's said on it, but it sounds like a hash or a checksum.

There’s no consensus because it’s on a per game basis. Some developers took the 4:3 stretching into account for their graphics so they look wrong in PP (super Metroid; actually not sure what else), whereas other games look much better (to me) in PP. I’m using pixel perfect unless something looks off to me

Is there a list of which games should use which mode?

That is interesting. So Nintendo did try a little trick to make it harder to put your own games on the mini. If there are no limits then I really need to find a cart dumper. Not going to go crazy or anything but I have some carts I'd love to have on the mini.

Edit:

I'd like to see if Mega Man X2 or X3 works on the mini. Chrono Trigger is nice but those two games have that Cx4 chip and it would be great if the mini could emulate those.

Not necessarily. They could have done a lot more if that was really their goal

The games are holding up so much better than the games on the NES Mini. Playing Mario World and Super Metroid now, and both are still great fun. My last time with SMW was on the GBA 15 years ago, and Super Metroid I haven't even played before.

And then there are still several other titles I really want to play.
