For those playing MMX for the first time, before jumping in go to the options and set dash to either l or r buttons. Otherwise you have to claw grip with 3 buttons to handle jump shoot and dashing.

I wish someone would have told me this when I was a kid. Didn't think of this until I was playing it on vc on the Wii U.

Man Super Ghouls and Ghosts.... trying to play it the old way with no save states shit is hard

It took me countless hours of playing replaying that on thr GBA to finish it. The 3DS game states were a game changer for me and made it easier to finish, but still as hard.

Where exactly can I find the heart and energy container in the bird stage? After some help here where someone mentioned I can find a heart and energy container and a helmed, I searched a bit and played it twice now but I only found one thing behind a glass roof. No idea where anything else could be, nothing on the floor, nothing on the roofs.

Loving this thing but I do hope if Nintendo makes compilation carts for switch that eventually there will be a way to export saves! I have a FFVI save I’ve been working on for years on my Vita on and off and just beat the Phoenix Cave so would be awesome to have a way to import that data here.

For people inquiring about the dash in Mega Man X, you can also double tap left or right.

I prefer this to using the shoulder buttons.

1) There won't be a way to export saves.
But that's irrelevant, because:
2) They won't make compilation carts for Switch.

So, now that you know those things, make your plans accordingly.

After playing F-Zero for the first time:

It must've been ridiculous to play this 26 years ago when it first released.

Yeah I didn't own this at the time or play it much but man it's great. Real edge of the seat gameplay.

I was a bit confused when I reached the end of the Knight league though. I got 1st in every course and 2nd on the last and nothing really happened at the end and I was simply ejected back to the main menu. I guess I didn't win?

Holy Shit, I've found the single most disgusting and annoying thing in Mega Man X: trying to get the Arm Buster Upgrade. This jump has to be one of the stupidest I had to pull of in my life as a gamer... I'm playing for over an hour now and I can't break the blocks. Man, my hands hurt like crazy by now...

It was extremely bare bones even at the time, but I kind of love that about it, even today.

To get the true ending (manage expectations) you have to beat it on Expert then:
unlocks MASTER mode, which you have to also beat. Good luck.

I really wish they had come up with a better system to manage SRAM vs. save states. This is *extremely* dangerous if you have multiple people at home using the thing. Data is going to get lost. Last time I played FF6, I didn’t have time to save so I used a save state instead. What I didn’t know is that my girlfriend played in the meantime and saved to SRAM as normal. So today when I loaded my state, boom went her saved game!

Dear god how could they not come up with a better solution? :/

This is going to be absolute murder at parties with friends constantly switching games and doing whatever all over the place. Not to mention the average user will simply not grasp the whole SRAM concept to begin with.

At the start of the stage, ride the lifts to the top, then dash jump to the left. You'll land on the roof with the heart container.

Drop down and you'll be at the start of the level again, go back up the lifts and you'll be in front of a robot on a little elevator that goes up and down. Kill it, stand on the elevator and press up. Then blast hole in the glass part of the tower and go in to get the energy tank.

The helmet part is further in. You'll find a partially constructed building, drop right and slide down the scaffolding. Jump dash to the right from here and you'll see a bunch of gas tanks. Shoot your lemons at it till they blow up. The part is there.

There's a way to lock save states so it's not so easy to override.

I really hope some of our Walmart orders ship tomorrow.

This wouldn't have helped in this case. Basically he used a save state, his girlfriend used a regular save. I also know for a fact the system warned him that losing the state would overwrite the regular save.

How are the diagonals in SF2T? Heard a lot of complaints about them, it's had me considering cancelling my order. Can you pull off specials easily?
took a bit of getting used to, but I haven't noticed any real problems. the game requires pretty precise inputs but eventually you get the hang of it. d-pad/diagonals feel okay to me.

Damn, the slowdown on the overhead stages in Contra is brutal in 2 player mode. Was it always this bad? I must've not been bothered about it when I was younger but wow, it's barely playable at times.

I keep hearing this - is it really true if you make a save state it erases the in-game save? that makes no sense.

Oh wait, so you mean you had a save state, she comes along creates a new game and makes an in-game save as per normal use of the game.... then when you load your save state, it restores the game to the state its as in before....as in BEFORE she played?

I guess that makes sense.

well, there's multiple state slots, so thing would be education. get her to make a save state after she saves her game...yeah gonna be hard to manage multiple users.

Do you have the helmet? You can't get it without the helmet.

Also you automatically get the Buster upgrade as the game progresses as part of the story, so don't beat yourself up getting it early if it's too much.

I still have my original Wii classic controllers. Do they work with this? I vastly prefer it to the original SNES controllers.

I started playing and did eight shoryukens in a row, so zero issues for me. Of course, I have a few hundred hours of experience playing SF2 with SNES controllers...

OH man... I feel so stupid. I got the helm, but apparently died and didn't keep it. And here I am trying to brake the blocks without the helmet for an hour. Argh! Well, got the Helmet again and immediately got the upgrade lol

Yes it was. It’s funny how everybody seems to have forgotten how slow the SNES CPU was and how much slowdown there was in most games!

I wonder if it had to do with recent sf being much more lenient in the f, d, df motion whereas the original is f, d, df, f? Like you nearly don't need the second forward in a modern sf game.

It’s been a long long time since I played Contra 3 proper, but the slowdown is something I distinctly remember. The game’s rife with it.

It's on it's way.

I guess I'll be getting my package on a Thursday which is okay by me since that is the end of my work week, seeing as I'm off on the weekends, That'll give me a full weekend plus a week or so to get as much SNES Classic playtime until Super Mario Odyssey drops.

Who knows maybe the package will go through customs quickly and arrive even sooner than I expect. Still I feel bad for the people who ordered and their SNES Classic and are still in the confirmation stages and hasn't even even shipped yet, or worse...backorder status.

I really wish there wasn't any of those issues between SRAM saves and save states.

SRAM is more convenient since I can just do it from ingame

Save State are more convenient since I can do them any times but then I have to get up and hit reset.

Ugh I can't wait to be able to reset from the controller.

These issues aren't just isolated to the SNES Classic.

You can use other emulators with save states and then make an SRAM save and then load your save state and it would override the SRAM based on the current state of the game.

I had this issue with GENS and KEGA Fusion, as well as SNES9X. It's just how the Save State saves the entire current state of the game in memory including the current state of the sram.

You have four save state slots. So you shouldn't run into the issue of overwriting the in-game sram save with an older save state if you take advantage of all four slots available to you.

Start with earthbound since the other thread will be doing a play through. Great place to ask questions, discuss, etc.

Yeah I really need to give that game another try. I tried 2-3 to start a playthrough in the past. I like the idea of a "normal" setting for an RPG but for some reason the combat always put me off.

Speaking of Earthbound tho, I noticed today that the manual available on the Nintendo side is the actualy giant book that came with the game originally. That PDF is like 10x the sizes of all the other manuals haha

Sure but if I play on an emulator on PC I can just hit a key on the keyboard to save so that's not a problem lol

When I was a kid the only RPGs I played on SNES were Final Fantasy 2/4, 3/6, and Chrono Trigger. I never played Secret of Mana, Earthbound, or Super Mario RPG.

Of those, which do you think still holds up best today for someone who has no nostalgia attached to them?

Earthbound. Replaying Mario RPG and.... The gameplay is still great, but that translation is pretty awful. I should say editing more like... The editing is awful.

do you have RPG-length parties? Lock the suspend points.
