It's infuriating. Watch the NRA come out again and shamelessly argue that the "solution" here is more guns.

This is a situation where there's literally nothing "more guns" would have done to help.

The killer was barricaded in a hotel room 32 floors up. You're not hitting him at night with a weapon you can fire with "concealed carry". It would have just killed more people.

Looking from the outside I genuinely can't understand why there is such resistance to gun control after incidents like this. There are some aspects of American culture that are batshit insane. RIP to the victims.

Holy shit at that death toll , R.I.P. to all of those affected .

How can you protect from a crazy Gunman in a high rise hotel ? How did they locate the guy so quickly ?

Anyone know how long it was between the shots starting and police killing him?

50+ is horrific and one human being did this. Fuck guns.

I hate how the alt-right paints their scapegoat so they can immediatly change the narrative to a false flag.

RIP to all the victims...gut wrenching news.

Really not looking forward to whatever stupidity Trump responds to this with

I know GAF loves to bring up Trump in every possible thread that has nothing to do with him and shit on him, but this is probably not the place to do it.

This is terrible.

I don't even know what to say. It's like we're collectively slipping further and further into madness.

How many times does this have to happen?

Semantics, how does it work.
Every act of violence can be considered an act of terror. But when we talk about 'terrorism' we mean organized groups, like ISIS or Al Qaeda.

No, terrorism can be carried out by individuals. The difference is in the motive - is it to spread fear or enforce political ideology?

Just murdering people for the hell of it or because you got bullied or your gf broke up with you isn't terrorism.

We need rocket launchers. Nothing stops a bad guy with a gun like a good guy with a rocket propelled grenade

This is madness. What would possess someone to bring so much sadness into the world. An evil act. Pure evil. My thoughts and feelings go out to the people affected.

A crowd that large trying to disperse all at once would have been pandemonium. It's just not possible for that many people to exit the area quickly. Most of the deaths and casualties probably happened within the first few clips being fired. As there would be music playing as well and other background noise, it probably took x amount of seconds before the wider crowd had some sort of idea what was going on.

Once everyone started dispersing hitting people from that sort of range would have been harder, but as I said most of the fatalities and casualties probably happened very early on and before the crowd could really break up.

Tragic.

Yeah for sure. Seeing that one vid and hearing what sounded like a full clip being fired and barely anyone noticing at the time and zero panic. Looks like it took a fair few minutes for it all to sink in, which is going to cause some serious casualties. :( Heartbreaking.

He's the fucking President. He has tools at disposal to push for legislation to prevent this from happening.

I can only surmise, but the sound must’ve tore through the adjacent hotel rooms. Though that still would make it hard to pinpoint the location, exactly.

He was shooting for an extended period of time and there were police already at the concert. Shot out/shattered the window in the room. Would've stuck out. Muzzle flash.

Bazooka, 50 Cal Sniper?

Not a time to be funny but that's the sort of brain dead answer you'll get.

Don't tell me it's for sport or some second amendment or muh' guns reason

But you can't just shrug off the constitution - that's a big part of the problem. Either the second amendment needs to be repealed, there needs to be a new amendment clarifying it, or a new judgement by SCOTUS. Brushing off the fact that the justification comes straight from the constitution is ignoring a huge part of the problem.

This has a lot to do with him because he’s the President during a mass shooting. His response will likely be shit because he is shit.

50.. fucking hell.

Horrible but when I saw the videos of everyone just laying down and hearing round after round of rapid fire... they were sitting ducks really, but when you have no idea what’s going on it must have seemed like the best course of action.

My god what a tragedy, makes me sick watching the videos and just imagining the fear going through their heads at the time. Tragic. Rest in peace to them all.

If I Google the shooters name the first result is a picture of mugshots of what appear to be latinos, totally unrelated, on a college football forum.

Second result is a thread about him being a left wing nut... On a college football forum. The internet and college football fans are trash.

This is true. Big reason I stopped frequenting my favorite OSU forum. During the Obama administration, Republicans became increasingly aggressive in their lies and racism, taking over the sports discussion. It was one of the better forums too, most other major team forums were even worse. Also infected the Browns forum I went to.

Stay safe, my fellow GAFfer. I can’t imagine the emotions you’re feeling right now.

Thanks. To be honest, it hasn’t been that traumatic apart from a couple of fleeting moments when the panicked crowd was scrambling everywhere.

Just frustrated and want to be asleep right now.

The gravity of the situation might hit home a little harder in the morning.

As of now.

There will be zero legislation passed to prevent this from happening again.

If a mass shooting in a kindergarten class didn't spur any legislation, then nothing will.

But this particularly shooting debunks the notion that the best defense is more people with guns. There could have been 100 people in that crowd with guns and it wouldn't have made a difference because this shooter was from an alleviated position with a sub-machine gun. Only law enforcement with a coordinated response is equipped to take someone down like that.

That said, there will still be zero legislation.

So this is now one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. History?

Devastated for the friends and family of the victims.

I've only argued in this thread up to this point, but the news about the 50+ reminded me that I should at least do the symbolic gesture..
RIP to the dead, this is terrible tragedy.
I hope the injured will recover, and that this shit situation can resolve as well as possible, without any additional things happening.

Horrible. I keep having flashbacks to the cyberdyne setpiece in T2 when Arnold is up in the building unloading round after round with a minigun at the cops on the street. Did the perp have a military background?

RIP to the victims.

The title is wrong. They aren’t sure on the dead. It was said to be around 50. They located the cars and may have found they lady

This is news from the press conference
