I can now say I've been in a news room when two of the worst mass shootings have happened and I've only been here for less then two years. everyone here is shocked. I don't know what to say. Stay safe everyone.
 
Could they ban the public from buying ammo but let them keep their guns, as technically, they are still bearing arms?

Also, my mate here in the UK just told me his girlfriends uncle is over there atm and has shrapnel injuries. To say he's in a state is quite the understatement, he got sent home a few minutes ago.

This deflection is used every single fucking time this happens, shaming people from talking about or acting on this critical issue while people are passionate and care about it. Then when everybody has forgotten about these poor people who were murdered in a few weeks, nobody will care enough to support new gun legislation. And then this shit happens again.

No because those in power will interpret the Constitution however they want to keep things the same. The 2nd amendment states that the right to a well-regulated militia "shall not be infringed." Gun nuts take that wording to mean that ANY legislation regarding guns, no matter how sensible, is an infringement on their rights.
 
If you can't keep yourselves relatively calm, go somewhere else. Freaking out over a slightly misunderstood post isn't helping anyone, nor are people trying to police other people's posting. Post news, discuss whatever you need to discuss, but keep it civil and quit trying to run the thread.

I said it a few times, I wasn't talking about gun control. I support gun control! It's more the sarcastic remarks that people do not care about what has gone on here in a topic filled with people who do care.

America needs to be rid of assault rifles, let alone handguns. One person can cause this much damage with an assault rifle.

While I might agree that their sports section is somewhat decent, the rest of that 'news' paper is utter garbage with some horrid agendas. I won't trust them for their political views at all, as frankly they don't need to show any facts when it comes to political views. They can be openly biased as there's no regulation (unlike TV).

He's either unqualified to own weapons like that in my estimation, and somehow bought them legally. Or he got them illegally, got them modified or on the grey market, and should be being investigated. Yet somehow this is an acceptable level gun culture in this country, firearms necessary for fucking protests?

Nobody is 'defending' them. The NFA is a highly successful piece of heavy-handed gun control legislation that has been implemented in the U.S. If you're going to advocate for gun control, you should understand it and push for its applicability to be widened.

Political points is exactly what we should be discussing right now. Frankly most people that say otherwise are trying to push their own agenda. Gun control, healthcare should be discussed when it comes to this mass shooting. It should be discussed NOW. Not when people have managed to push it under the rug because they've successfully pushed their own agenda

I'm in complete shock at the number casualties. It shouldn't be humanly possible for a single person to cause this much destruction. RIP to all of the victims and condolences to their loved ones.

I agree, our culture when it comes to violence is a malignant sickness.

Over 30,000 die from gun violence, which is TEN TIMES the death count of 9/11, every damn year. But way too many say it's the price of freedom. A freedom that results in tens of thousands of innocent people dying every year. But it's worth it thanks to deranged interpretations of the 2nd ammendment I'll never understand.
