This graph is VERY alarming --- what's strange is that gun technology hasn't gotten THAT much better over the past 10-20 years..............so what has changed? Why are things ramping up almost exponentially in recent years? There hasn't been this amazing leap in gun tech, right?

You're not waltzing in anywhere. There are cameras everywhere. You can tracked at all times on the Strip. There are also security and police everywhere. It would take a highly organized and highly unusual effort to get this done.
There are no metal detectors a valet takes your suitcases to your room in-opened.
Tracking is useless if you aren't on the radar,
This isn't minority report yet.
Any idiot could have done it.

This whole full-automatic vs semi-automatic discussion seems a bit useless.

Those semi-automatic assault rifles can be adjusted to shoot almost as easy/fast as full automatic.

The fact one can purchase an assault rifle is insane to me. The fact you can buy mods to make the ROF go up is even more insane.

The trigger basically bounces. As long as one pull (emphasis on pull) fires one bullet, the ATF won't ban it. This has led to 'reflex' triggers that also fire a shot on your release, effectively doubling your ROF, and these bump/slide fire stocks. They all make me super uncomfortable. Their applicability to a mass shooting was always really obvious, same as the ARES belt fed conversions for ARs.

I get how they work, and I'm saying it needs to be addressed. These products are designed in a way that subverts that law. Yes, they technically work differently, but the end result is too close for comfort.

So from what I read on the Guardian, Trump is already using this shooting as an excuse to get out of going to Puerto Rico.

I feel better at least knowing that my family's worth dedicating a Golf Trophy too, they dont have food, water, electricity or a roof over their head...but at least they can rest easy knowing some old white fuck has a nice shiny golden piece of shit dedicated to their honor.

The two at the top were high density/high population attacks. If you're in a crowd or are targeting a crowd, the casualty figure is going to be far higher than if precise aiming is needed.

Orlando was a packed nightclub. This is packed field of concert goers. Rifles do tremendous amounts of damage spraying/aiming at humans tightly packed together. You'll have some bullets passing right through people as well and hitting others.

It's the worst-case scenario. Deadly and tragic.

He booked a suite with the view of the concert grounds he needed and brought in loads of equipment. Only a determined idiot could have done this.

I wonder what the motive was behind the choice of target

Could be that he mostly looked for the most "efficient" way to produce terror?

It goes without saying hopefully these hotels finally beef up their baggage checks and systems, I always thought it to be very odd that you can just waltz into these massive establishments with so much traffic daily without so much as a simple metal detector system or a real baggage check

More security theater is not the right response to something like this.

Rest in peace to the victims. Fuck the fact that we aren't going to do a damn thing about this.

America is a fucking exhausting country.

It makes me sad to read about this news and not even blink an eye because I've gotten so accustomed to turning on the news to hear about another fuckhead deciding to kill a bunch of innocent people.

RIP to all the victims.

Bullshit.

You don't stop them. You might reduce them, you might reduce the percentage of them that are committed with firearms, but you're doing nothing to stop the crazy people who are the root cause.

If this guy couldn't get a gun he could have rented a u-haul truck and plowed into the crowd exiting the event after the show.

I'm not saying that reducing the availability of guns is a bad thing. I'm saying it isn't the panacea you're trying to sell it as. People need to dig a little deeper if they want to really fix things.
why wipe your ass if you're going to shit again later

It is a completely stupid point to make. You can't eliminate all viruses from everywhere forever, so let's not make any vaccines!

Smart!
Read my post again. We should absolutely, positively, 100% do something about guns. If I had my way they’d all be rounded up and melted down today.

I’m just saying our problems in America run way deeper than that.

Jesus fucking Christ. What a horrific thing to wake up to. Condolences to the families.

Maybe this is will finally be a wake-up call to all the fucks saying "gun control won't stop gun violence."

"You can't stop people from driving drunk, accidents will happen anyway, so seatbelts are really not an actual solution, alcoholism is the root cause we must deal with in this country. No seatbelts!"

I've always wondered if these people want to be #1 and if it's a sick, twisted game of one-upmanship.

The internet. The internet has made it far easier for people to isolate themselves in their own beliefs and move them further away from reality. If you want to be in an echo chamber of only opinions that agree with you, you easily can this day and age.

It's not guns that are making these shootings occur more, it's people already on the fringe becoming more and more removed from reality.

I dont see why people are talking about Gun control like you expect this president and it's administration to actually do something.

Trump will probably sign and EO declaring open carry for all states or some shit.

If he was of Middle Eastern descent, they would have already called this a terror attack regardless. It's insane.

They can't say it isn't a terror attack until they know his motive.

i'm sure there are still people planning to go burn down mosques as a response to this because they didnt check all the news updates.

people have a HUGE irrational hate boner for Middle Eastern folk.

Unless they had special security that night for concert facing rooms any idiot can do it.
No determination required.
Bring the suitcases one at a time from the basement car park from your suv if it feels wrong to stack them.

God this is the worst thing I think I’ve ever woken up too. I didn’t know what the scale of it was when my girlfriend told me she was safe last night. I’m now freaking out

I think a part of the truth is the idea that the media's handling of these kinds of attacks has increasingly validated the actions of he killers by putting them and their motives front and center during coverage, and the victims have become a secondary thing unfortunately.

I have already seen one tweet with a picture of black man as the terrorist.

What a horrifying tragedy.

Does the current number of dead make this the worst mass shooting in American history?

I know the Orlando shooting had a similarly horrifying number of deaths.

I bet the likes of Alex Jones are already preparing their twisted lies on this just as they did with Sandy Hook etc.

Urgh, stomach churning.

By a very small subset of wealthy, vetted people. They're heavily regulated to the point where they've never been used in a crime like this, or anything approaching it.

Well, debatable, but I just wanted to get to a point where we could confirm what the law was after posters insisted they were banned full-stop.

It is the deadliest mass shooting in the US.

Gun policy. Fetishism by a political party (GOP). Economic desperation. NRAs wildly successful marketing campaign using fear and anger to sell semi-auto weapons and lobby for looser policy.

This is the logical end game.
