Damn. That's exactly what I want to see from the President of the US.

As an outsider looking in though, all he ever seemed to do after a mass-shooting during his time in office, was to come out, look a bit teary eyed, read a statement and then proceed to do jack-shit to actually try and prevent any similar future attacks.

Holy shit:

Well if those concert-goers had guns, they would have survived!

50 dead...goddamnit...

And it's gonna keep going on this never-ending cycle, isn't it? It feels like during my currently early lifespan of following actively news, there is soon gonna be a point where I just go numb to reading about mass shootings in the US.

And I am honestly bothered now that I see the two words "thoughts" and "prayers", because that's all there is isn't it?
A mass shooting in the US.
"Thoughts and prayers."
A mass shooting in the US.
"Thoughts and prayers."
A mass shooting in the US.
"Thoughts and prayers."

There are no additional steps being taken. It just goes round and round on these two things. People die due to senseless gun violence, survivors have the "thoughts and prayers" of the rest of the nation, nothing follows, repeat. I am honestly starting to hate those two words.

"Our thoughts and prayers are not enough"
-Obama

Posting again: For reference people: My cousin is a videographer and he travels all over North America to fancy hotels to interview doctors and pharma people, in their Hotel suite. He has been to NYC, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Chicago, LA and even Vegas.

I've joined him sometimes to help him with his work, and most of the time he has two of those big ass camera trunks with him, he wheels those up to the hotel suites and no one ever checks them, I mean they even kinda look military ... but yet no Hotel (no matter how prestige) bothers to even ask him what's inside.

I mean, what and the fuck is stopping any of the lower level laws from passing? I don't get it really. Nothing ever changes with these lawmakers.

The NRA vociferously opposes any and all gun regulation. It doesn't matter if the leglislation is sensible and easy to comply with.

I'm actually kinda interested to see how it goes. A ton of people bought guns after every mass shooting under Obama in fear he'd actually do something. With Trump in office, I can't see the same thing happening.

AR15s are dirt cheap now. There was a huge push for production to meet the demand created by the hysteria that Obama would take everyone’s guns, and now the market is totally flooded. My coworker just got one for like 400 bucks. I wonder what ammo prices are like, since there was a huge run on that too

The solution will be allow semi auto rifles still - but add cameras everywhere, add scanners, add government breaking encryption, log everything and send it to an AI to predict people "snapping", monitor all financial transactions. by insisting on the right to own weapons of mass destruction you hand the government an excuse for increasing state surveillance. Gain a dangerous hobby lose an entire free society.

Oh definitely, this will just raise the surveillance state to new heights, and make America more paranoid. That'll also lead to more guns being sold.

A viscious spiral, going out of conrol.

Do hospitals and other healthcare facilities grant any kind of aid in the wake of incidents like this? Curious about if on top of something like a hurricane or terrorist attack people have to worry about medical bills for their loved ones.

?

He had no power outside of executive actions and urging people to act. You can only do so much with villains controlling the narrative and most of the government. Guns is one of the reason Trump got elected.

I seriously doubt this will happen. Airport-style scanners in hotels are not very attractive or welcoming.

Vegas may do something with luggage checks. That's it.

The GOP will propose litetally anything else but gun restrictions, no matter how fucking dumb, so I'm expecting someone to propose metal detectors at major public spaces. Just watch.

Jesus Christ!

When I heard about this several hours ago the number of casualties was reported to be in the single digits...

My thoughts are with the families of those killed or injured.

Obama? His most passionate speech was after the nightclub in Florida, and he basically said his hands were tied.

Why are Americans so self defeating?

'Nothing can be done about guns'
'Nothing will ever change'
It won't make any difference'

People are dying and you are all still like this.

Three things:

1. Crazy fuckers who would rather die than have their guns taken.

2. The well funded gun lobby that pays politicians to leave all gun control legislation alone.

3. The massive amount of legal changes to be made that would be opposed by 1 and 2.

What could Obama do when Congress kept blocking his every step?

This happens because voting makes no difference in the USA because of the terrible form of democracy this country runs under combined with the influence of corporate money on the elected officials. There is a reason 100 million people in this country just don't bother voting.

It would take a French Revolution style uprising to actually bring about meaningful change in the USA, but unlike France there are 50 million people in the USA that love the broken and corrupt government and are brainwashed by its propaganda. It would end in full on civil war. Oh and those 50 million people care more about having their guns then the lives of the 300+ people wounded or killed in Vegas. That is just the reality of this broken country.

and what was he going to do with a republican senate and republican house all mostly bought and owned by the NRA?

Horrible, just saw the video of a guy doing daredevil since instead looking for cover he was stand up with his open arms.

64 years old crazy guy destrois a lot of families. wtf!!!

Yep, he pushed for people to act, for any laws to be passed. He wrote EO's to do anything in within his power.

Just curious why do you think you need more then 1 gun? Let alone 10+

I also own several. Different capabilities, different calibers, different sizes, different purposes, different brands, different heritages.

Think of something you collect and ask yourself why do you have more than 1 of them. Because they interest you. Because you like the designs, styles, functionality, features.

They're not going going to propose anything based on previous mass shootings. They literally don't care. And they have all the legislative power. I don't know about Nevada politics, but the state government would have more control here.

Also I would like a fourth one

4. If dozens of murdered children, cold blooded in Sandy Hook did not change anything then nothing qill.
Get used to it.

Except he did try to prevent similar attacks, so you clearly didn't look hard enough.

He and Dems pressed for legislation, and the GOP controlled Congress told them to fuck off.

What a shit hobby.

@NRA still silent. No hopeful wishes, no deepest sympathies. Nothing.

Someone is probably resisting the urge to call for more guns to combat these guns for now. You just know it's coming.

It's a Monday work day. Their PR and crisis management teams probably have a 10:30 meeting on how to spin this.

Their goal is more gun sales, so they need to accurately gauge what happened and their response to increase gun sales.

I'm still not convinced of this. I think those fat comfortable 50 million are a lot more cowardly than you'd think. Even with their fucking semiautomatic penis compensators.

That's horrifying.... My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victims.

How where they even able to sneak these guns in there? I used to do security for concerts, and everything is checked when you walk into a concert/event hall. Where they acting as if they were part of the show or something?

EDIT: I've forgot that it's also part hotel.

Machines of death treated like toys.

Because of Sandy Hook.

For what it's worth, I have some friends who are typical "Keep government out of our lives" Republicans and they seem to be talking differently today.

Like others have said though, we need to keep talking about this and pushing it... not just shortly after a shooting occurs.

This doesn't happen everyday. We don't typically have to check everyone's bags all the time. That would be hell.

.223/5.56 is generally like $0.25-1.00 per round. Even .308/7.62 is generally in the same range. All in all, ammo is very cheap and if it's bought in bulk (like crates of thousands of rounds), it's even cheaper

The things i would collect wouldn’t be anything i can kill another person with. I still get surprised when people talk so casually about owning guns, thank god its not a thing where i live.

He was a great regular guy who "just snapped".
Not like those Muslims that are evil if not from birth but from childhood.

Pretty much how it goes unfortunately. Absolutely crazy. Do we know if he was ex military? How did he manage to get his hands on a full auto weapon?
